Yeah for sure, but even one better when they did the WCS Signature Series Serral talked about how his brother used to smash him all the time. Maybe that was one of Serral's first motivations for stepping up his gameplay so he could stop getting pushed around (I believe that was in broodwar though, to be fair)

He loses to his older brother in broodwar, so it shows that if his older brother took the sc2 scene seriously, he’ll probably compete with his brother often.

I think its fair to say Starcraft 2 hasn't been more hype than it is today. Huge events, Saudi money injecting new life into the scene (whatever you may think of that), gamers8, IEM, big prizepools, fantastic young talent like Serral, Clem, Reynor and many more keeping the game alive and kicking. It warms my boomer heart!

There are only a few SC2 players that have that extra gear, a sixth gear, while the other pros max out at 5th gear. When they enter that gear, we see things that are almost to be considered superhuman. The speed, the reads, the tactical decisions made in split seconds. Serral is one capable of this, Maru another, Dark sometimes show this sixth gear, also Rogue at his prime. They can all be considered GOATS.

I think it's tough to choose Mvp or Life just cause they weren't around for long enough. They thrived in a very specific era, but could they have adapted to a change in the meta? Mvp fell off very quickly, which is why he retired, and obviously we never got a chance to see Life's career play out. Serral and Maru have proven they can adapt with the meta for years and years, and consistently stay at the very top, which is why I think they are the GOATs

Serral has more wins and insane consistency. Maru has won harder tournaments. They go back and forth when facing eachother so can't really say who's best, both are gods. It's a real shame that they don't play in the same league. They would be the absolute best rivalry to see, however the tournament structure makes it so they hardly ever fight eachother :(
@TheVanillatech
@TheVanillatech Год назад
@@La0bouchere Way I see it ... Maru has been doing it for longer. Maru was just a young kid when he was already showing that he was one of the best in the world. Maru did it with a race that, statistically, was WAY behind the other 2 races in terms of the number of players who made it into the upper echelons of the games rankings. Serral on the other hand did it much later, much older, and with a race that was - for the majority of his peak - winning the VAST MAJORITY of titles. Starcraft has a huge luck factor, as do all RTS games. So it's very difficult to guage skill level between top players. But for me, Maru is ahead in the majoirty of factors determining proven skill. For now. If Maru retires soon, or stops winning, and if Serral continues for another 4-5 years and remains consistent winning titles, then maybe it would swing the other way.

im a serral fan but i dont get why he wouldnt want to do gsl. gsl is the peak of sc2. isnt it every competitors goal to compete in the most prestigious league/tournaments? granted, most gsl winner contenders like maru, dark and hero play in those foreign dreamhacks, iems and wcs's so he wouldnt play many people that arent in gsl but still. i get that logistically it sucks you having to move to seoul for 2-3 months per season but most athletes in sports dont play in their home town and move across the u.s. or even across the world like in soccer for example. i guess its a question of finances because 10 weeks in a hotel sums up and you cant just rent a flat for such a short time.

I think it's unfortunate GSL ended up becoming the de facto 'Korean' Starcraft 2 League. There's probably a history of which tournament organizer had access to what kind of money that made it really difficult to avoid ending up with the state of affairs as they stand today... But I have to imagine a dedicated league for the region-locked competition on the one hand and a true-to-its-name GSL on the other, with a format that is less prohibitive and more rewarding for players to participate from outside Korea, could have helped create an even more vibrant SC2 scene in Korea and Asia. That's a long winded way of saying: totally fair Serral didn't feel the need to compete in GSL Code S. But it would have been very cool to watch the GOAT play in Korea (with a large prize money on the line) on more than just one occasion!

People who wont' count Serral unless he wins GSL are missing a huge point. It is't a weekend tournament that Serral is avoiding. GSL is a multi-week process. You have to play in person, in Korea. This means you need to basically live in Korea for weeks. Meanwhile, you are competing against people living in their own home, enjoying their native language, eating their normal diet, and commuting stress free. A foreigner has to overcome all of those hurdles AND play excellent SC2. No Korean has even surmounted that amount of barriers for a title either.

I don't really think starcraft players will get 'carried away' with wealth. They really don't earn a lot. Serral is probably the outlier in that he won quite a lot but even with all his winnings he isn't exactly set for life he will still have to get a job after starcraft dies. Keeping in mind he would have been spending money on living, he probably isn't a millionaire.

Just having your own place without having to worry about rent and mortgage makes a huuuuuuge difference. With 1.2m you can get your own place and get another one or two for renting out. And by the "I never saw the need to prove myself" would guess he doesn't need all the status symbols.

Tyson Fury ducking Usyk "He's not my ERA! I'm the GOAT!" Serral ducking GSL "I never felt the NEED to prove myself! I'm the GOAT!" RayNor talked big licks too, on Harsteems channel. "No players in GSL are a problem for me! It'll be fairly EASY the only players who might be difficult are Maru and Her0!". Before being absolutely SPANKED in round one, put on a plane home the first player out of the contest. And RayNor is considered, what? 2nd best non Korean? 3rd best? You AINT THE GOAT, until you've racked up at least a couple of GSL's. COS ANYONE in those RO16's and RO8's can take you down easily. SC2 has, like all RTS games, a huge element of LUCK in the outcome. Two guys who are roughly equal, but with a definite skill gap, in no way is the outcome as forgone a conclusion unlike - say - Quake III / Quake Live, which has just a minute luck factor and pretty much always forces the worst player into losing a match. In SC2, one can win simply by pure chance of 1) building the direct counter off the bat to an enemy as they are completely blind 2) not having a few proxy buildings scouted (you can't scout the entire map) and 3) having favourable (blind) positioning (you cannot view the entire map the same time and finally 4) units MICRO themselves, built into the games control system, as it's impossible for a human being to micro more than 3 units effectively at any one time, out of an army of a HUNDRED units. So, debating who is the "best" must go some way beyond simply who WINS the most games, unless there is a HUGE disparity between a certain player and all others. Which there isn't. You have to look at periods of dominance, LEVEL of dominance, strategy, APM, micro and macro control, adaptability, etc. In short, your GRANDMOTHER can beat you at SC2. It is possible. She makes proxy DT's, you don't scout it, you die. SIMPLE as that. With ONE WEEKS training, she could do this. Yet, do you think that CZM's, or RAPHAS, or TOXICS grandma can beat them at Quake Live / Quake Champions? Even top 100 global ranking players, positions around 80 or 90, will die 30-0 to any elite level Quake player, every single game, for 100 games. Serral is definitely top 5 NOW. Possibly even top 3. But impossible to say he is the GOAT. That is in NO WAY clear, outside of (as Serral himself says) "fanboys" who think their favourite player is "the goat".
