Chris Stuckmann reviews Servant Season 1, starring Toby Kebbell, Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger Free, Rupert Grint. Created by Tony Basgallop. Produced by M. Night Shyamalan.
I watched this one film he was in 'Driving Lessons' and knew then I wanted to see him act more outside of being known as Ron. He was excellent in this 🙂
I never watched the harry potter movies. dont know any actor who plays in the movie except the one with the glasses. but ive read every book and i somehow knew this guy played ron weasly lol but yes loved his performance here but every actor was great actually here in my opinion loved it
I just watched this show. Fantastic. Real depth and darkness- Rupert Grint is a revelation in it. Never thought he would have so much presence and charisma as an actor, I really hope to see him in more heavier roles from now on. Lauren Ambrose kills it too
9th episode of this show directed by m Night Shyamalan is just pure horror. Absolute brilliance from him . If there was a co writer for his movies, he would be so great . His directorial skills are top notch
it's been a good while since I went ' oh shit oh shit OH SHIT oh shit oh shit' for like 20 minutes, but this episode...it still haunts me! brilliant work of him!
Toby Kebbell caught my eye when he was on Black Mirror; even if some people didn't like that episode, it stuck with me because of how good he was. (Side note, Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson were great in BM too.)
Tbh in my opinion it’s a cult...at the end of the season if you remember there was a group of cult like members surrounding the nanny. Either this or it’s some sort of angels.. this is just my thoughts on this.
Surprised you didn't talk about the incredible music and sound. I don't know how to describe it but it was so well done. It helped create this constant feeling of tension and discomfort. I guess it was done so well that it kind of existed in the background to form part of the overall package which is great, but I think it deserves a lot of praise.
In episode 7 when Rupert Grint goes off the rails... it was phenomenal acting on his part. It really felt real when he was banging the pots and pans and yelling. He was really great.
I’m so happy you reviewed this. I try to preach to everyone I can. It truly is the definition of a hidden gem and I can’t wait for season 2! That ending 😳
I actually binge watched this show, and yes, it is brilliant! Can't wait for episode 9 of season 3. Great writing, so much so that you change your opinion about liking or hating this or that character from one episode to another, from one season to another. Keeps you on your feet, always thinking, speculating, asking questions. Incredible!
Dark is a must. Can't stress this enough. That show will undoubtedly make your head hurt. It's so damn good. Great writing, great cinematography, soundtrack too.
Chris “The Greatest Salesperson” Stuckmann This video sold me to get a subscription, just to watch this show. Apple truly needs to give you a nice check for this.
Saw it a few months back when as it aired. Absolutely loved the feel of the show. Creepy yet no jump scares at all. Acting as well premise is quite eerie, in a good way. Cinematography and storytelling are one the aspects that makes it a well thought of and well written series. I like the way they have kept each episode short and the viewer always left hanging in the middle, you'll literally think about the whole development of the characters and story and what's actually happening after ea h episode for quite some time. It is impactful. Shayamalan is the only reason I came to know about this gem of a show.
Watched over 250+ shows through the past 12 years. Mindhunter is easily top 5. One of the greatest things to hit streaming platforms period. Best piece of entertainment made from Netflix period.
Well it's gonna be very disappointing when they don't make season 3. They released the actors from their contracts because Fincher is working on movies for the next year or two. So I doubt theyll come back for another season after that long of a hiatus.
@@FEBRIZIOtv I didn't even think a second season will happen, it's a real shame why it hasn't blown up like other shows. It's certainly better then anything Netflix has done. I do have hope for a third season just a couple of years later. The second season was incredible.
"..leaves a lot of questions hanging and some people might not like that" *shakes head in disagreement and starts watching Dark again". Also Chris, PLEASE REVIEW DARK.
Ok in my opinion, they had a brilliant idea and unlike other time travel shows, it actually made sense. But, the main problem is the fact that the episodes are TOO DAMN EXPOSITORY. The character development runs around in circles, and we're supposed to care for their feelings, when we don't enough time with them individually, but with different versions of them, thereby taking away our ability to relate with them. The time travel is definitely the most interesting part of the show, but take that away, and there's nothing underneath.
Thank you Chris for spreading the word about this show! I swear that at some point I thought I was in the minority of appreciating the beauty and complexity of this work on art!
I heard of this show just the other day and I wasn't sure if it was good or not, if it would be worth watching. Thank you for reviewing it Chris because now for sure I'm gonna watch it!!!
This is why I always like your channel. Talking about things that aren't necessarily in the public eye. I've caught and seen some great films just from your suggestions that no one else has seen. This certainly sounds like another one of those watches.
Thanks a lot bro for this video. I had no idea such a show existed. I just thought I'd give the first episode a go after watching your review, and it creeped me out. Then, I binge-watched the whole thing today and loved every minute of it. It's not your average run-of-the-mill jumpscare horror. It's creepy; some scenes made me uncomfortable; other scenes made my skin crawl. Truly a masterpiece. Thanks again for making this video bro. Love your work
this is a trying time for everyone, so i’ve made it a point not to skip a single ad until all this is over. i may not be able to help anyone directly, but i hope that helps at least a little. thank you for all that you do, chris. this channel has been a sort of safe haven for me, and has taught me so much about storytelling and artistic expression.
So excited to see you review this show. I’ve been a huge fan from the first episode and longing for a new episode every week. Only problem is I can’t talk to anyone about it because no one has Apple TV+. Glad you liked it and cannot wait for season two!
Can’t wait for next Friday. I haven’t been exited for a TV series since True Detective (S1). This show is brilliant, and you can see the influence of Night S. throughout the episodes. As always awesome review!🤘🏼
Hey Chris, please, please review Come To Daddy starring Elijah wood... Really want to hear your opinions of that movie. I loved it. And for those who want something hilarious, but also thrilling and twisty, watch it!
I really liked that movie, except the climax was really deflating. I kept waiting for it to really hit its breaking point, and then it just kind of...didn't. Elijah Wood was great though, and that first reveal was wild.
I liked the movie a lot, but it got too comedic halfway through it and I wasn't expecting that turn. I was very invested, but some of the twists didn't work for me
This Show is on my watch list since the first trailer came out. Rupert Grint is a fantastic actor. You should check out the Crackle series Snatch based on the movie Snatch.
Just based off of your review I was compelled to binge watch the entire series. Such a good reccomendation that I wouldnt have known about without this so thank you! Keep up the awseome reviews Chris :)
I just got a free 1 year apple tv membership with my new laptop and because of this review I was so excited to watch this show. I'd say episode 9 is my favourite, I felt so sick and anxious throughout it, but I appreciate how well that episode was crafted. It's an incredibly difficult subject to tackle and leading up to that episode I was unsure how they were gonna finally "reveal" what happened to Jericho. To bring a child into the world is so terrifying. Babies are so tiny and fragile, it's insane how any of us put ourselves though the stress of becoming parents! I think the actors are also so incredible, especially Lauren Ambrose, her performance is truly haunting. I'll probably have to rewatch the show at some stage, there's still so much that I don't quite understand, and I reckon there'll probably be some stuff to pick up on a rewatch. I'm really looking forward to season 2 :)
The best way to describe this show is it will transfix you visually so you can't look away, then engage you mentally so you continually try to put the puzzle together. It is so meticulously shot that every frame and pan is a work of art and conveys so much information . There are camera angles and one-takes you just haven't seen before and times you feel like the 4th person squeezed in awkwardly at the table with this family. The lighting and sound design also works well to conveys tension without jump scares... true character development with slow burn mystery and thought provoking moral dilemmas. I have paused this show so many times just to theorise with my husband about what might be going on or what might happen next then second guessing and refining our theories. Even if you don't want to do that for the spiritual stuff, visually you truly can't look away it is so mesmerising and everyone can relate to human condition of loss/grief and the stories we tell ourselves to deal with that- either consciously or unconsciously.
SO glad to see you talking about this because, as you said, no one else is. I keep trying to get other people to watch it to no avail. There are so many random details in the show that are so wonderfully bizarre and the food preparation puts you on edge (or me anyway) because it truly is gross a lot of the time and disturbs you, but for a good reason.
Shows I would recommend watching/review The ones with the exclamation point are the ones I really want to see you review Better Call Saul ! Ozark ! Punisher Season 2! Umbrella Academy Gotham Peaky Blinders ! Lucifer Dark! Agents of Shield The Last Kingdom When They See Us! Bodyguard! The Witcher ! Band of Brothers Barry ! Westworld The Pacific Watchmen !
OMGOMGOMG! I can’t wait for you to do the review of season two of Servant and we’re only four episodes into season two! I know you’re probably not gonna see this but I had to offload my energy! It’s crazy so far, huh?! Episode four! Directed by the man himself! Shyamalan is one of my favorites! Oh my god Chris I can’t wait for you to talk about this season! But then it will be over and I really don’t want it to be over. Thank you so very much for turning me on to this brilliant show. Can’t wait to know what you think of season two.
I binged this in one day a little over a month ago, I couldn’t stop. The trailer intrigued me and the show didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait for season 2. I have no one to talk to about Servant so thanks Chris for this one way convo 😄
I love your channel, I love your reviews, I love how you review under-rated lesser known movies and tv shows, because I discover new things and I get all the compliments from friends when I recommend them stuff you review :) :)
omg yess i finished watching the show for a while and surprised nobody talked about the show. i'm glad you talk about it, it's such an amazing show and deserve more recognition.
Hey Chris! Been watching your channel for a while a thank you for giving us authentic reviews! I would suggest the movie Burning (dir. Lee Chang-dong) and The Wailing (dir. Na Hong-jin) and since you dont like spoon-feeding then these movies will be perfect for you.
i like rupert grint everytime when he played the role like this XD (servant, sick note, snatch) that's why i like ron weasley in the deathly hollows part 1 the most because he's able to act as the loser so well and interesting.
Yaaaaaay! I can’t believe you’re talking about this show. It really deserves attention. And also, if you guys bought a new iPhone/Mac/iPad since last September, than you get free access to Apple TV+ for a year. That’s how I got to watch this brilliant and intriguing show.
I've been waiting for months for people to notice that this is one of the best shows out there. For All Mankind is pretty cool too, but Servant was a top five for the last year. Somebody finally found the perfect role for Lauren Ambrose. She's kind of terrifying in this. Plus, I just love Toby Kebbell. He's incredibly good at non-verbally conveying confusion and distaste. His dry reactions really made me laugh in contrast to the oppressive, all-up-in-your-shit kind of scene staging. Love it.
Another amazing show that’s on Amazon Prime that you should absolutely amazing is the boys. It’s like what if superheroes existed but they were assholes and didn’t care about anything but power, money and drugs. The comic it’s based on is also great and super dark
All of Garth Ennis’s comics border on exploitation at times with the level of extreme violence and and how it’s meant to be darkly funny. Still, the Boys was an interesting read. But it did feel off putting at times.
Thank you for talking about this show!!! I watched it a few months ago and looked everywhere online for a good discussion about it and didn’t find much. I totally agree with you about the visuals, suspense, and uniqueness of the show. I tend to get angry at things when there are open ended mysteries at the end of a season like this, so I didn’t love that - but otherwise really enjoyed it too.
Hey Chris, While we are in this whole no cinema situation you should check out Castlevania on Netflix. Season 3 has just dropped and it is incredible visually and story wise.
I genuinely loved the show. I literally just got Apple+ for this show and I was blown away. It was so disturbing that sometimes I wanted to stop watching but just had to continue. I’m definitely really excited for the next season
