Service dog gets kicked out of restaurant? 

This restaurant manager was in full violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. A service dog is not a pet and must be allowed into any area accessible to the public. I certainly hope she learned a very important lesson from this experience.

The Popeye's employee was 100% wrong and broke the law. I hope that the courts force Popeyes to pay this man as much money as possible. Punish these immoral and offensive businesses.

Even if the manager did ask him to move so the dog wouldn't be seen he was under no legal obligation to do so. In fact demanding that is unlawful.

The disabled & their service dogs have every right to enter an establishment! He can sit wherever he wants! Jerks.

I believe that this man's blood sugar level is low because this dog is going nuts and being avoided. Or, this is the reason why this man was hassled by Popeye's.

Poor pup wasn't prepared for TV...it happens, I'm sure it's a weird situation to be in! Service dogs are trained for so many things, but TV appearances just aren't one of them! He's trying but definitely should have been rewarded or reassured a little more. towards the end that dog was shaking but he held it together so well.

My English bull dog service dog has been in: Walmart. Target, McDonalds, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Taco Bell, Dennys, Bob Evans, Burger King and several other restaurants. He bothers no one and nothing. In restaurants, he sits under the table and most people don't even know he's there. Target employees say they love him because he's better behaved than the kids that come in there! In a Dennys, I was in a booth and got up to leave, he came out from under the table. A woman at a close table started and said, "Why, I didn't even know he was there!" I responded, "And you won't either."

The dog isn't even under control during this interview. If that's the way he was at the restaurant then he should have got his food to go and left.Just saying you have to have your service animal under control, for the safety of workers, other customers, and yourself.

If so, keep a little for you and pay the other forward to other kind people. So PLEASE SUE THEM.

My S.D. will whine and otherwise "act out" if I ignore his signals. His dog could be reacting to his owners' anxiety, because many S.D.s are also trained as emotional support animals, in addition to be very sensitive to owners feelings.

I had a IHOP kick me out recently because a waiter thought I didn't look ill/disabled and that my SD Amber wasn't the "right breed'. If we weren't in the middle of our meal I would have just left, it's not worth it. But this waiter, she was making it personal, going off on me especially after I told her I didn't have to tell her my illness. She had a hair up her rear end or something but eventually the owner came out to defuse the situation and comped me an my husbands meals at least. But like how bitter do you have to be to go after someone like this, Amber behaved perfectly and did nothing but just exist. I just don't understand it.

That's not a fully trained Service Dog. Service Dogs don't whine and disobey. The dog should not be nervous in any public situation. If his "Service Dog" was more convincing, he may have had a valid point to his story. If this dog was acting the same way at an entrance to a public establishment, the management had every right to ask them to leave. Asking them to move was being extremely accommodating.

I notice that the media always describes the action as "kicked out" never "asked to leave" . This whole area of service dogs, emotional support animals, therapy dogs etc. is confusing to anyone who isn't well versed. Its also pretty poorly regulated. The Popeye manager runs a fast food place. Not a law firm. She made a mistake and there was an apology. Do we really need law suits over this?

Popeye's might not be a good go-to place to eat if you have blood sugar problems to the point where you need a service dog. Still, that's fucked up they kicked him out. I understand, dog hair, sanitation, maybe some people are scared of dogs. etc., But service dogs are very well-trained safe, hypoallergenic animals. An inconvenience to them, could mean life and death to him. Which is more important? Convenience or human life?

I hope suits like this will help educate the public between the differences between Service dogs, Emotional Support Animals, Therapy Animals and pets...and maybe start more discussion about a national certification/registration to avoid the pitfalls and confusion that lead to these legal issues.

Here's another problem: the fact his dog is currently whimpering and being ignored. A trained dog like this only acts up if it needs to so now even as someone who works with the disabled and have a disability myself I question this whole thing. My service dog goes absolutely everywhere with me but she's still in training so we don't take her into restaurants because she absolutely loves food in the middle of the night she goes to the kitchen and we have a little rope on the refrigerator door so she can grab us waters for our medicine and she opens it and eats whatever she can get her little paws on

People are responsible for their safety. A dog must have drink as much clean water, as it needs. I always wonder if I should get a service dog for my social anxiety, I have a dog that when I got her when I was 10 I carried around the shops and she kind of just placed herself into the hearts of local shops so she is welcome even after she became too big to carry. But shes 10 herself now and now I wonder if my next dog should be listed as a service dog so I can take her to places like the supermarket too and if I move from my small town I can still take my dog with in me like I have for the last 10 year. But I get so worried that someone will confront me and ask why I have a service dog and I know I don't have to answer but I feel like if I do no one will take anxiety seriously because people over use it as a general term where as real medical anxiety is utterly debilitating. And while I was always shy and my puppy made me feel confident it wasn't until I was drugged and raped at 16 that I became extremely introverted and I really don't want confrontation like I'd rather just shop online and self serve machines strictly
