hi welcome back or to our channel!
In today's video, we really honed down our Deep Pressure Therapy Skills! But we are still working on our anxiety alerts! He seems to be super vocal and frustrated at my legs shaking... hopefully we can slowly relearn how to alert me without barking! Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this video! I can't wait to see wait yall have to say :)

Hi there! I also have an aussie who is my service dog, and I am a dog trainer as well! Aussies are definitely not the first breed to be selected as a service dog because, as you said, they can be very vocal. As a trainer, I learned that Aussies want to be rewarded as soon as they do something correctly, and they become impatient when they don't get the reward right away. In order to discourage this, I would get in the habit of adding duration before rewarding and to stop rewarding right away for the commands/tasks he already knows well. You can also practice some impulse control activities to calm his brain down (such as staying on place for extended periods of time, doing a downstay and waiting to be released before running after the ball in a game of fetch, etc.). Hope this helps! :)

I would love to see you and Astro twice a week. My dog and I are just starting our journey. My dog is four years old and has never been trained. I am interested in more of your technique in training your dog.

He is so so beautiful! Btw, there’s a channel called My Service Dog and Me who makes videos specifically for owner trainers that I think you would like! She has a basics or something playlist (the one with the “shaping” video in it) where she basically teaches you all the steps of teaching something. Like, she teaches you how to teach and plan what you’re going to reward. Also, yes to twice a week! Your videos are fab!

I’d love to see posts twice a week if you feel that’s something you can handle without feeling pressured! Seeing how you handled his and your own frustration was so beautiful. Most people don’t walk away from the situation and come back later, so props to you for that :D It’s so great to watch Astro grasp new training concepts through the repetitions.

Congratulations!!!💕(on ur subs # & finding a functional/comfortable position 4. DPT). That’s what I luv about ur channel- u make suggestions, ask questions, share ur experience- but encourage us to do what works 4 our dog & 4 us! There’s no hard fast rules that fit everyone. It’s like dancing - everyone has their own style/moves but when find ur perfect partner & u move together….it’s heaven!!!❤️ (my SDiT’s nickname is Bubbas too!). Have a great wkend & thx 4 another great vid!🐾

I’m training my sons lab to give deep pressure the same way for the same reason. His elbows were hurting my sons legs so now I have the dog step all the way over then lay down with his stomach only on the legs. 😊

Great video! Impulse control work really helped with training my Aussie for certain tasks. What do you use on that gorgeous coat?! My Aussie is having coat issues due to sensitive skin and allergies. I can’t find anything that works.

😂 I have PTSD and depression and anxiety is okay to have a service dog for these things
@AnxietyRat

Yes. Psychiatric service dogs are a thing that exists. You can have a service dog for mental illnesses if your doctor or psychologist says that it would be helpful for you.
