Amelanchier, also known as Serviceberry or Shadbush is being rediscovered, and with good reason. A North American native, serviceberry has something to offer at almost all times of the year: beautiful blossoms in mid Spring, colorful fruit for wildlife in early Summer, vibrant orange and red Fall foliage in Autumn, and even an interesting Winter aspect with its intricate framework of delicate branches. Serviceberry Trees are being rediscovered and planted in large numbers by those in North America who value native plants and natural beauty.

I have a service berry tree and it is Gorgeous!! I am so in love with it! The birds love it and sing all the time! I want to plant a few more in my yard...I love dogwood trees but they don't have the beauty all year long like the service berry tree does!

Beautiful images of the blooms. Mine has not bloomed yet. Thank you for the video, brings spring to my mind, so longed for during these freezing days of February.

Saskatoon berries (serviceberries) are very popular in Western Canada, but not so much in the USA. That's because outside the Canadian prairies, they are interspersed with a look-alike hawthorne species, which is full of seeds and has no flavor. With a little bit of practice, you can learn to recognize the difference. The serviceberry is usually a darker, shinier color.

I have to race the birds every year to get to the very tasty berries when they ripen. It is a very attractive tree,

Any recommendations for a serviceberry with cedar rust?

Hoping to plant a serviceberry this spring in place of old, overgrown forsythia. In time it will make a nice screen, but I wonder what would be best to underplant or plant nearby??? Will be watching for your video about this species with great enthusiasm!
