As an HVAC triple OG, I would like to see the competition have real world surroundings like an attic with a low pitch roof and no walk boards. And the lineset whole is wedged in the soffet so you got to get a face full of insulation to run the lines 😂 Or put poison ivy bush or wasp hive near the ac 😂😂😂
@@joebyron9 Or who can troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair any number of service issues. For the finals, who can fix the installer's mistake the fastest 🤣
This is an install competition, The Company I worked at the Service guys did the refrigeration piping and Electrical work, Sheetmetal workers did the rest. Back then we had VICA/Today Skills USA I won 1st place in Colorado in 1981 went to nationals and didn't make the top 3 but our competition had Bending , Brazing, Airflow Readings, Electrical and refrigeration troubleshooting, and tested on all our safety and how we came up with our results. But this was cool to see.
This was ok, but they didn't show none of the important stuff. No Leak test, didn't pull a vacuum, didn't do a start up, and not to mention no trouble shooting. Plus, they didn't put the insulation back on the piping. This system would never work properly. Ohh well, maybe they will add more next year.
a competition!!! where do i sign up? didnt even know about this, what i dont understand is everything they use is power tool but to cut pvc they use saw jajaja no insulation either for the suction line
I feel like one of the qualifications for this compitition should be hvac being your full time job. A full time plumber running pipe faster than hvac guys, who would have thought?
Remember their pro-pressing this stuff, so no risk of internal oxidation flakes. Plus their bending the rest so it's the same amount of joints before and after the dryer, so it doesn't really matter where on that solid run it is.
@@phalenmirabelli1566 when I say remember, I mean it as "keep it in mind". May not be a good practice in a traditional installations with multiple fittings, but in this set up, the protection is the same anywhere you put it on that liquid line.
I don't like Watching sports. But this is kind of thing I surely watch. Competition like this in other stem fields could be a begining of a more developed society
Doing this in Tampa Florida without a low pitch roof, without a walk way across the studs/rafters, without a insulated attic, without crafting your own duct board plenums, without duct flex drops coming off the plenum/mixing box along with hanging the duct/ boot connection, without low volt tstat wire or float switch’s positioning, Along with best practices like nitrogen pressure testing and triple evacuation/vacuums, bubble testing, air flow adjustments, and start up check, along with high volt wire sizing, breakers, disconnect, and code checks like marking the unit info, and ahri/permit presentation on the unit for the code inspectors. This isn’t what it is like installing an air conditioner in Tampa Florida.
Need complete install not just lineset 😂 and add in braze if wanted . Pull vacuum and complete start up . Go do the actual installs in house needing replacement. Then can even have commercial competition and service not just replacement.
I had a hack saw in my truck for over 10 years just in case I ever needed it. I recently realized I’ve never used it once. I pulled it off the truck and put in the junk drawer.
"This is what a power bender does for you, helps you save time" While the guy waits for the bender to slowly disengage the pipe.... That thing was slow Af.
I’ve been a Lead installer for almost 20 years, I’m going to win this championship next year. That electronic bender is plain garbage, the Hilmor compact bender is so much quicker.
Where is at least the suction line does not require insulation? Up and down on suction line vs let it pitch to condensing unit at lower elevation; my proffesional ass would say improper/ good way to trap oil in evaporator!
Yea I forget they also have certain rules too, which I would struggle with. It would definitely be fun in a room full solid installers to see the differences in approaches and all that
I hope they're in tight with a great sheetrock crew, because they're gonna be calling them every month with no pipe insulation. And benders for 3/8"? Get out of my face with that. I'd strongly consider firing a hand over that lol. All these fancy (albeit unnecessary) tools on display, and you can't hook them up with simple pvc cutters? Easy to install a line set in under an hour when heat stroke and stepping through ceilings aren't legitimate concerns. Bring them boys down here to Texas, I'll personally fix 'em up with a proper competition.
I wasn't aware of such a thing like compression fittings as I live in a developing country, not until now. I was waiting for the moment they started to braze to see some skills... I'm feeling like a dinosaur
EXACTLY! With my Hilmor Bender and my B-tank, I’ll become the next champion. I guess I’ll have to practice using that garbage bender and zoomlocks tools.
I’m SURE we do this EVERYDAY, using the garbage RLS / Zoomlock is a kids tool but it hasn’t been proven, too many steps that can go wrong with years to come. Brazing still is the best, efficient and safe way in HVACR applications. What Masters are you talking about? I got my Universal EPA 20 years ago, it took me 10 minutes of reading, that license is so SIMPLE to get is ridiculous. It took me almost 10 years to get my NATE Heating & Air Conditioning Lead Installer License, I have it now for 9 years now. 🤙🏼
What a joke. All they did was run lineset didn’t even insulate the suction line and did a drain. Not to mention pressed everything and some guys work still came out like dog shit.
Couldn't watch 10min all I hear is buy a power bender, stupid expensive crimp fittings. Real world competition is who can do it with spending the least amount money. Quickly without complaining.
