Final assembly, dealing with the protection relay contacts and tuner checks and adjustments. Some cosmetic touchups as well. This is gonna be a really sweet rig for someone.
Great job JP! I enjoy your videos very much. You definitely help out us that are learning this field. I was gifted 3 old receivers from a guy who is very knowledgeable like you. He had them laying around and gave them to me to learn on. An old Luxman preamp/amp with no radio, a Yamaha home system power amp and a Pioneer QX949 quad receiver. I fixed the Luxman and Yamaha fairly easily, both had quite a bit of issues but I was proud that I successfully repaired them. The Pioneer was the one I really wanted to get working. The output is dead on that, It did have life in the preamp/tuner that I could get tuner reception through my signal tracer. What a nightmare the wiring is with all the wrap and post scheme. No room to get things out to trouble shoot. I found a video of Shango066 working on this same model, this one even frustrated Shango to the point where he said he’d never work on another. If it got him frustrated with all the busted up filthy stuff he can get working it would definitely get to a somewhat newbie to solid state repairs. Tube amps and radios I am pretty proficient at, this quad receiver is definitely a challenge. Keep up the great video repairs.
Very nice. I absolutely love my sx727. Mine has developed an issue in the tuner so I have to go back in sometime soon and tackle that. Nothing serious I’m sure. I recapped everything except the tuner when I got it. Guess it’s probably time to do it too.
Very nice. Thank you for taking the time to document the servicing. I am going to make an attempt on working on one I just acquired. The challenge is the selector switch. It needs to be replaced because someone drilled out the shaft into and below the threaded shank. Not sure why someone would do that.
My experience with deoxit products is that the oil spreads all over everything and makes a big mess. I end up wasting my time cleaning up the oil from deoxit. CRC contact cleaner works great in my opinion.
Pioneer had a fetish for blue illumination in this era, including their "blue line" amps/tapedecks, i was never a fan of the blue colour, i think either green or warm-white would have looked better.
