Now that the volume pot is in we replace the remaining loudness and high filter switch, address the pissing capacitors on the preamp board and perform basic signal path tests.
I also enjoy watching your work. I've picked up many tricks of the trade from you. Thanks for sharing your expertise, there are not many true "TV repairmen" left in the world!
Appreciate your time making these, your experience really comes through during narration and visual inspection on those removed components. No substitute for experience! Looking forward to the next phase of repairs.
I've been enjoying this series a lot. And it reminds me of the SX-939 I used to have around 15 years ago. It was mint, and worked 100%----I regret selling that one
Usually for double sided boards I tend to add new solder to any components that need to be removed. Seems like when you reheat them again after adding new solder, the old components come out much easier.
Jordan, you do excellent repairs and filming, thank you :-D It's a pity that the camera can't sit on the bench to the right, so it's not so annoying for you. :-(. Capacitors with a nappy, what an odd thought :-D
Jordan; can you do a repair of sansui 5000X right channel no sound issue? Or a similar receiver bc they all are probably similar right?Your videos are very helpful to novice like me.
Great work my friend, question....I notice when you're installing the new caps how do you know its polarity on the solder side of the board. I don't recall polarity markings on that side.
I recently got a 1979 Harman Kardon HK560 Stereo Receiver free works great I just need to buy new fuse style light bulbs for the stereo what would you recommend me get the original incandescent or LED because only two of the six light bulbs were actually working (is this a good deal by the way?)
Stick with the incandescent lamps. The LED lamps are too intense in my opinion. Change them all. What you dont change will die from jostling old filaments during the disassembly process
Either not loading the rail properly, or regulation circuit has failed. If you have a schematic of that circuit, inbox me at vintageavrepair (at) gmail and we can discuss.
HiFi i would only ever use Nichicon, For HiFi signal path Nichicon Fine Gold, For Power supply area Nichicon FW, theyre not cheap but are guaranteed to last 30 years in the right temperature conditions
