This is an excellent video, the cinematic qualities notwithstanding. Technically very instructive! You have detailed knowledge of vacuum cleaners. I appreciate the explanation of why my rainbow continues to work fine even after being accidentally tipped over several times. I've always wondered how that worked. Thank you!
Thank you very much for posting this video. This is the best video I could find to easy understand and to follow step by step to clean my Rainbow. I believe that it's possible that it can happen when no one fully explains how to do maintenance when you purchase it. I am one of those people who were not aware of it. I purchased the Rainbow vacuum back in 2004 and believe it or not, I never knew you have to regularly clean something else other than change wearer in it. Now, 13 years later after I used it to clean construction dust during replacing a floor ( sanding plywood floor to level it up) I have noticed that it does not work as good as it used to. It's impossible to describe how dirty and nasty it was when I took it apart 😳 but I glad I did. At this point, I feel so lucky that I found your video and now my Rainbow is taking care of 😀 and back to normal. Thank you again. You rock!!! 😊
I purchased my rainbow brand new from a salesman. I was never informed on how to do any maintenance what so ever. So fully believe that the owner of this model was not neglecting her machine she was probably not informed on how to do it.
Never use a pliers to tighen the nylon impeller to the motor shaft. There is a allen wrench hole in the end of the motor shaft use an allen wrench to hold and tighten or remove the impeller bolt, this will prevent marring the shaft.
Dude! I feel like you are talking about ME in this video. I got my Rainbow secondhand and NO ONE told me about the maintenance. Hindsight makes me embarrassed thinking I only needed to change the water! 😂 Today my separator EXPLODED. I immediately turned it off, unplugged, dumped the water & found the separator in PIECES. Yikes. Now trying to determine if it's worth it to buy a new separator & hope (I haven't taken it apart yet) that this is repairable. You don't happen to be in Maryland, do ya? Hahaha
Dude, you need a cameraman. Grab the other dude who seems to be wandering around watching you, and put the camera in his hands. You obviously know what you're doing, but half the time I couldn't follow along. You need some editing software too, to cut out all of the useless footage like you walking around the shop looking for tools or parts or whatever.... On the plus side you are very knowledgable and interesting to listen to.
MAP The other guy is my boss, he's going between working at his bench, answering the phone, and helping customers while I work on the machines. This wasn't filmed in one long video either, it was recoded in several shorter clips as Id stop recording when I had to go do other things.
+compactc9 Yeah, its pretty hard recording with a cell phone - every little tremor of your hand looks like an earthquake to the viewer. The tripod should help. Another trick would be recording from different angles. So, after you repair the vacuum, take it back apart, put the broken part back in and put it all back together, put the camera in a different location, and repair the vacuum again. Your boss may not like that idea, but getting different angles keeps the viewer involved and is more interesting. With some editing software you could then combine the footage. It's easier than you think. There has to be someone in your community with this software on their home computer. A friend of mine had an App for editing his vacation footage right on his cell phone. At this point point you are probably so sorry that I decided to comment on your Video. LoL, Sorry. Anyway, I'll be checking in the next time I have vacuum problems. Good luck compactc9.
In your video you're talking about silencing your vacuum with some silencing mats - can you elaborate or share video of doing so, or show the final result maybe? Anyway - thanks, it's really helpful for doing maintenance.
Thanks for the good service repair hand on rainbow vacuum cleaner sir thanks. You should make a service repair of the rainbow se repair service to sir? this is great and wonderful sir thanks.
I have the same rainbow, and would love to add the acoustic foam, but it seems like I'd have to switch out for a new upper housing and different controller housing... is that what you did or did you just add the foam, and trim to fit?
Around 6.5 minutes in you magically jump without explanation through the motor disassembly and removal to already having cleaned the parts. IMHO, that is not a teardown video and will result in a lot of angry frustration (from personal experience) from anyone trying to follow you. You clearly have the skill needed. Please try to follow your own instructions and see how it works if you knew nothing already. Also, I think it would be good to point out that there are three very different versions of this motor and how to recognize each and what to expect from them. Sorry for the negativity, and Thanks for the effort you made. Keep at it and you will improve each time. Hope this helps you make it more worthwhile in the future. Finally, re:camera issues: GoPro makes both a head and a chest strap which holds their cams very effectively to follow you effortlessly.
No where online does it show how to get 2005 Eseries gold separtor off. I took the nut off but the whole separator does not budge. Since its plastic I didn't want to pry on it. Mine has a larger diameter wheel on it instead of just the separator. I bought this vacuum for $50 and it smells like mildew so trying to clean it and replace some parts. Any help on getting the separator off?
Buddy, how do you take out the main switch? I have a e2 - 2 speed and I believe my switch is bad but I don’t know how to take it out without damaging the casing. Thank you!
On 13th minute, you're struggling to screw back the bolt while counter holding the stem with pliers. The stem has a hex hole that you just counter hold with an 1/8 hex bit. That's what the hole on top of the stem is for.
Do you have a disassembly video of the snap together newer units? I can get the HEPA filter out but afraid to push and pull too hard on some of the tabs I can see. My power head stopped working suddenly. Thought it was the wand but it homed out good. Have no voltage directly from the unit where the hose connects.
The second machine I take apart in this video is the one you're talking about. I have a video of me taking a current model apart, I just need to edit the clips together and upload it. I also finally got a list;e tripod with flexible legs that sits on the bench, so I don't have to gold it or prop it against something to see what I'm doing.
I was wondering if you ever replaced the controller on the Rainbow 2 speed? Also, have you ever repaired a controller by replacing parts? If so, how and where do you buy parts for a controller? I needed to replace a part inside my controller. I needed to replace a capacitor. The larger black capacitor about the size of a nickel. I think the part number says RU SL22 6R012. The "R" is printed backwards, the same way Toys-R-Us prints theirs backwards, so that "U" following the R could be a J. Also the 6 may be a 5. I watched your videos to gain the confidence to take mine apart. I recently bought a 'dead' Rainbow 2 speed from a friend, for $70, opened the controller, and removed that same black capacitor and soldered it into my controller, AND IT WORKS, now!!! That is quite expensive to pay for a capacitor, so I was wondering where I could buy a replacement capacitor? Got any experience in this matter? Thanks for your reply. --GAO
Hello! Great video! Rainbow E Series I have for ten years, now almost entirely lost strength (sucking power). Hardly can vacuums. Hepa filter has not been changed since it was purchased (only washed with water). I know that i need to replace a HEPA filter. But something else? I have it apart just like in the video there is no visible defect except dust. What can be ? Thanks in advance for your response and time!
The real aggravating part is this video. Because you know what your doing and you go at it, but the video does not let me see how you did it. I stopped at the beginning as I did not see how you got the plastic clips to release and did not want to break the shroud This could have been such a great asset for a whole lot of people. I have a Rainbow e series, do you have a video on this. One button, one way it sucks and the other it is just a air cleaner. Thanks.
+harryl157 Next time I work on one I'll try and get a good closeup of what I'm doing on each step. I see these every so often, and now own two, one is brand new and still under warranty though. I might make a video of servicing my E2 gold, it could use it and I could show the upgrades I did to it.
Can I ask how to test the motor directly without pcb? The motor has 8 wires so how can we test it directly from outlet? I noticed there's a burnt on my pcb so I want to test the motor itself if it's still running. Please help.
there are so many videos on rainbow motor repairs, because their motors are always breaking. ever see a video for hyla repairs? no. because their motors last 5 times longer than what a rainbow motor will.
