If we did that, we would end up with Calvinists and Arminians. The issue is not which men to follow. It's about how to understand and interpret passages. Hard hearts mean some people either will or won't interpret the Bible completely. Ergo Calvinists and Arminians It's unavoidable.

@@Tim.Foster123While I absolutely believe God causes/ordains/determines some things. I don’t believe He causes everything to happen. In Jeremiah 19:5 God says, "People built high places to sacrifice their children (in fire) to foreign gods, and He (God) says, "I did NOT COMMAND this, nor did it enter my mind." Also, Joshua 24:15 has Joshua saying, "CHOOSE you this day whom you will serve." What does the Calvinist say sin is? The Biblical definition of sin is missing the mark. Not doing God's will. How can there be sin if God is CAUSING everything to happen? What is sin if EVERYTHING that happens, ONLY happens because GOD CAUSES it to happen? Also, how can there be obedience if EVERTHING ONLY happens because AGAIN God causes all to happen, even "obedience" to God's commands?

@@Mike-qt7jp Sorry, but the Jeremiah passage works against your theory when you read Lev 26. God predicted/promised everything about their situation 800 years earlier. Not only their idolatry , but even the fact that He would polunish them for it my making them eat their children. Friend .... Is cannibalism a sin in your book? If so, explain to me why God is making them sin by eating their children. So yes, it obviously entered His mind. (If you're listening to Leighton Flowers on that, do yourself a favor and stop. He's a horrible exegete.) Also, please pick up a book and actually study Determinism. The fact that someone makes a choice does not defeat Determinism. Determinism is the claim that our choices are determined for us by causes external to us. Thanks.

@LC-jq7vn maybe so! I'm a Christian man who doesn't believe in man made labels or titles. If anyone else wants to label themselves after another human, that's their fault. God's word doesn't tell us to do so. Do you believe that God offers every human salvation? Don't be afraid to answer a direct question with a direct answer. God bless you
@oldschoolcy
@oldschoolcy 2 месяца назад
@@ironleatherwood Yes, God offers every human salvation, but also salvation is of God and from God to whomever He chooses. Why? Because the purpose of creation and humanity is for the glory of the Creator and not vise versa. So the offering of salvation to every human is a condemnation to those who suppress the revelation of God because they are dead in their sins. God's autonomy to do whatever He decrees to do to His own creation is not a contradiction to the mans, creation, to choose his own dead ways, sin, free will of doing what the creature's nature is and not an autonomy to do whatever he wills ie save himself from his deadness... God told Noah to built the ark and for 120 years everyone mocked him for building the ark and from the whole world only 8 were saved, saved by God and for Gods glory. God delivered Israel from Egypt, and only 2 of that generation entered the Promised Land while the rest perished in the desert. God does what God does and who is the creature to tell His creation you are immoral in your ways, read Job... Also, ''Christian'' is a man made label/title that describes the person who follows Christ..... It is not that you don't label yourself, and we who have ''labels'' are ''going against God's Word'' but what is the said label definition and if it is grounded and founded in God's Word... You sound like muslims and mormons who say ''show me the word trinity in the Bible'', unless you are not Trinitarian either....

There are truths that are irreconcilable, but sometimes we change them to fit our system. We are not God, allow the scriptures to speak for themselves. 1. God purposes ALL things...all means all, everything. 2. God desires ALL to be saved...all means all, everyone. 3. Not all are saved. Our problem is that we can't accept these are all true statements, undeniable through scripture. Therefore we have developed systems that help us to make sense of it.
@ryantony7743
@ryantony7743 2 месяца назад
Just if God desires all to be saved and the will of God will always prevail otherwise He is not sovereign, if He's not sovereign, He's mot God. If it is God's will for all, everyone to be saved then why are all not saved? Does that not frustrate His sovereign will? Read romans 8 and 9, Ephesians 1, John 6
@hagenjunger2914
@hagenjunger2914 2 месяца назад
@@ryantony7743 that's the thing....even though we cannot understand it. It is True...God desires none to be lost. Equally true... God is completely sovereign and will aomplish all His purposes. When the scripture says..Who(God) will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth(1Tim 2.4),. I take the same view as Spurgeon, an outspoken calvinist...that all means all, and we cannot change the meaning of scripture to fit in our system of logic. People split into 2 camps, because we rank the attributes of God...if we see His sovereignty as the pinnacle from which all flows, we'll tend to calvinism. If we see His love from which all flows, we'll tend towards a more freewill view. However, God is not us, and so the 2 can equally work together, both perfectly supreme and satisfying to God. That's where I've come to after years of wresling , and it's ok to let the bible speak for itself, and to not have it worked out. We do the same with eschatology...change the natural meaning of a text to ensure our doctrine/system stays consistent. I'm not against systems, if they help a believer. I believe God has allowed certain things to be hidden to keep us humble.
@ryantony7743
@ryantony7743 2 месяца назад
@hagenjunger2914 fair enough. I personally lean toward the fact that while man is free to choose, our desires have been corrupted so much to the point where our natural desire is not for God. Being dead in our sin (Ephesians 2), not seeking after God (1 Corinthians 2:14) due to our bondage in sin. We love one and hate the other. Therefore, I lean toward the belief that we can't choose to be saved. Salvation is an act of God and God alone. The salvation that is through faith in Christ, by grace, are all gifts from God. We contribute nothing to our salvation, we're dead and corrupted until God Himself gives us life (being born again) now as for who will be saved it really only makes sense to me and gives me peace that only a select few will be saved according to the good pleasure of God's will. He will have mercy upon whom He will have mercy and compassion upon whom He will have compassion. God in His sovereignty chose us before the foundations of the world. I'm not saying in all knowing or right lol, this is just the view that gives me peace. God is still loving and merciful in that He provides and has compassion upon those who love Him and those who don't, but saving grace is only for the few that will find the narrow path. One thing I hate is the way that Christians have allowed this debate to bring separation. Like we don't follow Calvin or Paul or Cephus. We follow Christ (1 Corinthians 1). We may not agree on everything and but Christ commands us to love each other so that they world may know that we are His disciples. It's one of the great commandments to love. And to act in love. I'm sure on that we can agree lol. God bless you
@hagenjunger2914
@hagenjunger2914 2 месяца назад
@@ryantony7743 agree full heartedly. I was at first horrified by calvinism, but I chose(😀haha) to recognise fruit where there was fruit. I've been in a reformed church a few years now, and love my brothers and sisters there. I even had a dream recently...I was being dragged down a hole screaming "help, I'm becoming a calvinist". My mates thought it was hilarious 😂. At the end of the day, we should be able to tell all people that Christ died for them with confidence. Wesley and Whitefield are the classic examples of opposing views but the same goal. It's a pity people don't get to know each other properly. Most Christians stick in their own camps and learn in an echo chamber. Make friends and fellowship with other believers, get to know them, and learn from them, and see they also have Christ. I know with all I am that I had nothing to do with my salvation. I never contributed to it, I resisted it, I did everything I could not to be saved, yet God alone chose me and brought me in. But I still cannot agree with TULIP. One of the reasons I don't agree is leviticus 16. The day of atonement was a shadow of Christ to come. Israel was the elect nation, and its clear the atonement was for all Israel's sins. Yet not all Israel is Israel. Not all who had their sins placed on the goat were saved. This is the same reason Paul could say "..we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe" ..He truly carried the sins of the world onto the cross, and He has truly saved only those who believe(in the full sense of the word). He has His reasons for granting me faith and mercy, and not my friends at the time. I don't know why, but I'm grateful he did. Good chatting. I'm in South Africa and its midnight 😴.

Voddie's opening remarks are the very cornerstone of the development of what we call Christianity. The first followers of JESUS Were not BAPTISTS , they were 'Jesus following' Jewish converts because of the experience at that first Day of Pentecost after Jesus ascended. Baptism did not come about as a "mark" of a person's origin or affiliation, Baptism was of the JEW and it was called the Mikvah. Jesus' first miracle was an object lesson of how the Water's of the Mikah would be the same Living Water that washed away the Old Man allowing the blood of Jesus to be the "new wine" that would be the blood of the Lamb that can be transfused into a dead sinner and allow the Spirit of Christ to enter in and give new life.

If one culture tries to read another culture's writings without the aid of learning that culture's history, geography, and politics, they're pretty much guaranteed to get it wrong. When it comes to the Bible, they'll get the major topics right, but they'll get all the minor topics wrong, but think they're right. Or they'll be confused about the hundreds of things they read and don't understand. (I teach theology in Africa. The lionshare of the confusion I run into is because the people don't know or understand the Bible, Hebrew culture, context, etc.)
@twanettefourie3131
@twanettefourie3131 15 дней назад
@@Tim.Foster123 I concur, understanding Hebrew, Greek, the Bible is key to conveying the gospel, the Bible cross culturally. You have first hand experience and can teach us in this regard dear Tim. What is exceptional about the Taliabo Story, is that there was no existing written language for the Taliabo. The missionaries therefore stayed among the people for years to a) learn the culture, b) language and then proceeded to develop a c) written form of language in their own tongue to make available to the people. I can imagine the complexities you mentioned were present in abundance. The supernatural work I see in this is evident for me in the living Word of God, Heb 4:12 and how the gospel that is able to save, was conveyed, regardless of said hurdles. Many believed and some rejected it. You may want to study this case.
@Tim.Foster123
@Tim.Foster123 14 дней назад
@@twanettefourie3131 I'm already familiar with the Taliabo Story. There's a 4-part video on RU-vid for those who missed the film when it first came out. I'm not against such efforts **for the most part**. Changing tracks for a sec... In the circles where we do theological training (namely Chad and DR Congo), translating the Bible into local *tribal* languages is, imho, a lost cause! The people themselves are running in the opposite direction, trying to learn French and English because that's where all the 'good' stuff is: technology, smartphones, laptops, Internet, jobs, Bibles, Bible commentaries, etc. Why would they want to study their own tribal language when there's a better one at the local store and schools? The amount of money spent to translate the Bible into a tribal language (a small staff and 10 years of linguistics = ~$1M ) is much better spent teaching locals French/English. It's pennies on the dollar if you go that route. When they've become competent in the national language of their country, they have access to Bibles of various English translations (ESV, HCSB, NET, NIV, KJV, etc), commentaries, bible dictionaries, etc, etc, etc. The list of Biblical aids in English is nearly limitless. But if we spend millions to get them a Bible in their own tribal language, what do you have to show for it? One bible and 10 people who can barely read it. That's all. Next step is to teach the rest of the tribe how to read their own spoken language. (and why would they want to learn that, when all the cool stuff is in French and English). This concept is entirely lost on Westerners. But it is not lost on locals. It is their daily misery. 3 weeks ago, I had a conversation with a guy in the Congo who told me that God hated Swahili. I asked him why he thought that. He said "Just look around us: all the good things are in French and English. Therefore God hates Swahili." He didn't speak French or English. Only Swahili. And he has no choice but to sit back in relative ignorance and watch the world pass him by. No one is printing Bible commentaries in Swahili. No one is translating Systematic Theology books into Swahili. No one is translating Bible dictionaries into Swahili. And even if you did, his grasp of Swahili is, like most Congolese, marginal at best. But you can buy those books for $10 on eBay all day long in English. Far better to train them on English and French. After all, that's what they themselves want. The exception to this would be if the tribal language is the national language or a majority language. But that's rarely the case these days.

People go to hell for the sin they love not for free will. If it was up to human exertion you'd still be in darkness. The grace of God was a calling because you were predestined. If you accepted the gospel its becsuse God enabled you to believe *elect* You come to a crossroad, Calvinism supprts biblical grace. If you go the other way you have borderline universalism. It says that God cannot intervene in man's will. God can do whatever he wants because he is holy and perfect. You are not saved by "accepting" if you believe its because you are his sheep. If you believe everyone can be saved you lack understanding. Remember when Jesus was performing miracles? Jesus answered clearly. "You do not believe because you are not my sheep. Accept that God saved you by his grace and mercy. It had nothing to do with you or the finite human will you possess. Were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel-not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

While I absolutely believe God causes/ordains/determines some things. I don’t believe He causes everything to happen. In Jeremiah 19:5 God says, "People built high places to sacrifice their children (in fire) to foreign gods, and He (God) says, "I did NOT COMMAND this, nor did it enter my mind." Joshua 24:15, "...CHOOSE you this day whom you will serve." According to Hyper-Calvinists, there is no choice, God has already determined it for you. My contention is with people like John Piper who says, every single thing that happens on planet earth is caused by God. He gives the example of tiny dust particles in a beam of light. Piper says God controls the very movement of each tiny particle. Or James White who has said, "If a man brutally rapes a young girl, God caused it. If not, then it was a meaningless, random act." Jeff Durbin says, God is not partially sovereign, He is not half-sovereign, He is sovereignly sovereign. Meaning, like Piper and White, every single thing that happens is caused by God. If you follow that logic through, you have God saying to Adam and Eve, "Do not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil..." and then He causes them to do that very thing. You have God saying, "Have no other gods before me." AND then He makes countless billions worship Allah, Buddha, or one of the three hundred million Hindu gods. Again, if you carry this through, you have God, who is LOVE, who is Holy and Righteous, causing, murder, rape, child molestation, drugs, alcohol, prostitution, human trafficking, not to mention, the belief in atheism. Allowing something to happen, UNTIL it is dealt with on Judgment Day, is NOT the same as causing it to happen.

Calvanism is merely a name for the doctrines you hold AS A CHRISTIAN. Just like others are ARMINIANS after a man who created false doctrines. The name calvanism was invented years and years after his death in response to the guy who invented arminianism which is named after the guy who invented that, which is probably what you are. No one is following Calvin. It's a theological system people hold. 😂 Wake up and study rather than judging incorrectly.

He did not run the government. And he was right on Baptism. Calvinisitc Baptist are a strange creature. Dr. Baucham needs to start with 1 Corinthians 10:2 not Matthew 28:19 and then go to the Old TestAment and see how they circumcised all male members of a houshold. free and slave, adults, teenagers and infants. Then look to Acts where the Apostles baptized entire households, free and slave, male and female, adult, teenager, infants.

Voddie, you’re holding you to your traditions like the Roman Catholics do on other subjects when it comes to baptism. Look up all the depictions of art from the early centuries of the church and the vast majority of them show baptism by sprinkling or pouring. Do you think Paul was baptized by Ananias in Acts 9:18 in a baptismal font he had in his house way back then or rather was sprinkled with water or had it poured over his head from a local spring. Same with the 3,000 who were saved on the day of Pentecost. It was no lake or river nearby to dunk them in. Also, and Mark seven, do you really think the Jews before they ate would wash or baptize household items like dining tables and couches by submerging them in baptismal font or bathtub. Don’t think they had them back then. Think outside the box, will you. Use deductive reasoning.
