Another successful great service work of a poor clock that was drowning in grease. How long do those pivot buffing sticks last before you have to replace them ? I am trying to purchase a pack of them with different grit sizes. Thank you for sharing your work
Love the videos! I was wondering if you take in clock repairs or just do them for friends and relatives? I have a William Gilbert shelf clock from the 1880's that needs all new bushings and some gear train work. I do a little clock repair for myself but I am not set up to do bushing.
My wife inherited a Sessions mantle clock that is over a hundred years old but didn't run anymore. I took the movement out and soaked it in mineral spirits for a couple of days. Then I lubricated the entire thing and put it back in the case and it started to work again. After adjusting the beat, it started to run just fine again. I knew if I took the movement apart it would never go back together so try the simple thing first, it just may work.
I have 2 Sessions clock movements from Black mantle clocks both in need of work , I'm tempted to take one of them apart and try my luck and cleaning them up and going through it before I start on the restore on the clock housing .
I would like to contact you about service to my 1875 Seth Thomas Wall Clock movement. Similar condition to the Sessions Movement. It may not need as many pivot repairs, but springs were over greased. I hoped I could just clean the pivots and oil, but the more I learn, the more I realize it should be professionally cleaned, and serviced with proper tools. I can tell you more in email and send pictures for your consideration. I can't figure out how to contact you except on youtube. Please let me know.
