any tips on how to get your hands to work together? I'm right handed and often time push the ball to the left because I my right hand kind of takes over. Am I doing too much with my arms maybe and I need to be doing more with my wrists? Also, wondering how much of your fingers are supposed to make contact with the ball - is it just the pads of the pads of your fingers down to your first knuckle? Thanks so much for any assistance!
First thing you need to ensure is getting your feet to the ball and hips around it. You also then need to focus on the ball so you can get even hand placement. You should at least be getting your ring fingers on the ball then pushing your hands out so when you finish you can see the back of both palms Remember, thumbs give power, fingers give finesse.
@@volley.volley thankyou so much for all these little pointers - how much of your finger touches the ball? just the finger pads down to the first knuckle?
Love the vid man, showed this to my little sister who wants to be a setter like me but I had trouble getting a guide to help her since im not the best teacher. I appreaciate the help. I had a question as well, the only thing i have trouble with when setting is when the ball is launched super duper high off the receive, how can i set more consistently and make my touch softer when the ball is that high?
The number one way is making sure you get your feet to the ball and you get under it. That will allow you to absorb the ball more and give it the softer touch you want! Best of luck! Let me know if you have anymore questions!!
i'm assuming you mean when to set and when to dig (correct me if im wrong). you should set when the ball is higher than or at your head, making contact when it's about at your hairline. you should dig when it's below your shoulders. when it's in between your head and shoulders, you may need to crouch and set or step back from the ball and dig.
What advice you would say to the aspiring setter who does not totally know what are the proper hand placement and form, and who always tried to have good setting?and i would say its me hehe
If you have the ability to record yourself to see what’s causing it, then that’s the first step. You can’t get your hands to the ball if your feet aren’t there. Then make sure hips are around the ball. Then get at least ring fingers on ball!
Hello! Whenever I try setting with the ball coming down at me from 12 feet, I have trouble controlling the ball and setting it properly. How do I get better at figuring out where the ball is gonna come down and when to put my hands up to set it?
Honestly it just takes time and practice. Your hands will be like bricks at first then after attempting to set these extremely high balls 1000x they’ll soften up even these. How do you get a 1000+ quickly? Do it yourself. Throw the ball up high to yourself. Like tossing a float jump jump serve. Toss it high, set straight back up or to a wall. Then try higher and higher until you have 1000+ in the books (eventually). Do 100 you’ll be good, do a 1000 you’ll be great!
(Could you translate to read what I am going to write please? 🥺) Podrías explicarme cómo colocar la pelota más alta? Porque me quedan muy bajas cuando tengo que colocar a la posición 4 y no se cómo solucionarlo.
Claro que sí! Yo también hablo español! La traducción: Could you please tell me how to place/set the ball higher? Because they are too low when I have to set the 4 ball and I don’t know how to fix it.
How do I set really high passes (I'm talking about first touch is super high, I set second touch)? When I try to do it, the ball usually has spin or goes in a different direction than what I want.
(As a non-setter) I would usually just bump set it. Or you could practice the “shock absorption” part of the set to ease the impact and practice controlling the ball. Almost like a catch. Practice the absorb (making sure your hands are equally contacting, getting your fingers around the ball, using your wrists) then release. This was a drill that my coach used, hope it helps.
Work on getting both your hands around the ball. Try your best to get all your fingers around the ball allowing wrists to go from straight to flat out in front of you!
