Super quick video showing how to set up hand tracking for VRChat using an Oculus Quest 2! It’s pretty easy to do, especially with the new Virtual Desktop update. If you use ALVR instead of VD, you can emulate the Index controllers and then move each finger individually like you would if you used knuckles, but with Quest1/2 hand tracking.

@@backutZR It works as you expect it to, when you use hand tracking on the quest, you can't put your hands together, the FOV is limited etc. So it's more show it off rather than use it since you can't move with hand tracking like she stated in the video (but with VD), so just pick the controllers back up and move around lol.

When I do this, I can only grab one item. Have you had this issue? I figured out the emulation just to flip off my friend in vr.

I did a practice set yesterday, and turning the knobs on the mixer with the controllers in your hands is manageable, but quite difficult. This is the perfect solution for djing in VR, can't wait to test it out, thank you phia!

if you use ALVR and emulate valve index controllers (an option in settings) you can do this with actual accurate finger tracking movements. its pretty cool stuff

I believe you can also set this up with ALVR on Quest 2 in the same manner... but you can get it to mimic Index controllers instead. I've been playing around with the same hand tracking as above for a few months now... glitchy as heck vs controllers but seems to be getting better...

Thanks for the video. I'm in the process of starting to use vrchat with ocolus link over a shadow cloud pc (steam says my computer can run a index, but ocolus was basically saying my computer is to old. Go figure) I went and upgraded to vrchat+ so I instantly went from visitor to new user, so now I can upload my custom avatar. I'm going to start a channel basically about one of the topics of one of your videos you created. I'm going to do exposure therapy for my severe social anxiety in vrchat. I'm on your discord and the people there are nice and helpful, you've got a good bunch of people on there. I just pray I can find some people like that in vrchat.

Wow, your camera view matches your avatar so well! I love that. You are very cute too. I guess Quest's hand tracking is still a bit shaky and it can misread gestures. But it is really awesome. Looks very immersive. (I imagine, walking can be done with some custom controller on the floor maybe. ) Thanks for showing how it works.

You CAN actually move around. I believe you pinch your middle finger and thumb together and pull forewords. If not that, it’s the index finger and thumb.

Using ALVR (sadly a lot more rough then VD) You can get full hand tracking not just controller emulation. VRChat doesn't support hand tracking, only finger tracking, but you can see the effect in a game like NeosVR.

I had this setup working awhile back. Just getting back to VR again and the finger tracking doesn't work anymore. Are there settings I should look out for?

I remember playing a steam VR game (SPACES and VRChat) when I put my controllers down for a bit to rest. I was pretty surprised to see my hands moving too! Sadly it's hard to move without the controllers in VRChat, but it's pretty cool nonetheless! It works with the Quest 1 too and Oculus Link (I think) if anyone's wondering.

I couldn't test it because when I loaded the game via Virtual desktop, it was super grainy/choppy/laggy. I assume you have to be linked in or air linked for the full Steam version so you can still get the stream camera? I run a hotspot off my phone. It may seem naive, but I am able to load some hefty stuff with just the hotspot. In thw virtual desktop for my tied PC, it says 2.4g instead of 5g. Virtuak desktop says performance issues may arise if running 2.4 or mesh. Is that why my visuals are so messed up in head? I want the PC version to run via sideload so I can get the hand tracking since I am working to DJ and stream.

DJ issue: The tracking loses your hands sometimes, and if this happens, my avatar disappears and I have to reload the entire world to respawn it so just a heads up for you DJs out there.

This is so good now, nor only can you move but you can just not use your controlers at all, it's super well optimisd (for what it is) altho I don't know it this tutorial is relevant in 2024 tho 😢. Only have gotten it to work on the quest version of VRC but it'll keep doing some digging and update this post for anyone who is here for the same resons.

I get a weird bug when playing the Steam VR version of VR Chat through Link. Left controller pretty much doesn't work and controllers are janky! The game also still senses that I'm on Quest so I can't access non-Quest stuff... VERY ODD. Gonna have to try re-installing this

pity there is no way to do this over a wire, VD is exclusively wireless and my wireless LAN maxes out at 150mbps (and theres no ethernet port on the Q2)
