I have only been able to play on banter for a few minutes but it's honestly an actual pretty cool place. Physics based social VR is nice! And I first tried the backrooms map and out of all the backrooms maps I've seen theirs is by far the best!
This is why you're an amazing content creator. You don't necessarily prefer slime trackers, and you may continue to just use your vives, but you point out their improvements, you back the passionate people who work on it, and you spread light, where you could've just tried them and bashed them. Thank you for always being someone kind.
No way, Nick Robinson in my VR Show comment section! VRChat Lore Mystery Trip to Japan Video when?!? There's gotta be some good old lost worlds or mysteries just waiting for an enterprising gonzo investigative gaming journalist to uncover! :)
I would get the Pico 4 second hand and just throw myself head first at the wall. What's the worse that could happen? Also.. Same, but understanding the technologies and stuff is kinda nice... but the real beauty is how a community of „degenerates” managed to figure it out so beautifully. Cheers!
@@alecuaalecu1 Never underestimate "degenerates". They are often the most passionate and obsessive people in the world and when that energy is focused on something productive as a collective they can accomplish some truly terrifying feats.
bought slimes back in February, tracking kept getting pushed back but after a couple of months of tracking updates, it stayed steady with its arrival date. Really happy to hear the Slimevr team is doing better!
Thankfully, for those with a little bit of electronics skill most of the magic of slime is in the software and making custom hardware to work with it is both quite cheap and easy!
Don't forget the wonderful community that's been so much fun since the beginning, they are helpful, nice, and always ready to hangout! Can't beat that.
Slime VR is great. The fact that it is open source makes for some amazing VR stuffs. My favorite so far is being able to use old android phones as trackers. Only downside is you need at least 5 old android phones. I had a bunch of Galaxy s4's and s5's and it worked pretty well considering. I still Primarily use my Xbox One Kinect but it's nice that you don't need DIY or solder skills to mess with Slime VR.
The Xbox Connect was really ahead of its time and its sad that there is no real development in similar external depth-sensor tracking. I think if something like Slime VRs could be combined with external depth sensors or IR led tracking like the old wii remotes then that will make them truly a Vive alternative - the IR/depth tracking can be an optional add-on to help prevent drift when using them but then occlusion still won't be a problem because the Slimes will still be able to operate just fine when external tracking is lost to occlusion.
@bebelynx there is a project that is combining cheap Playstation Move cameras with Slimes for 2 way tracking, and the results look amazing. Once I get my hernia surgery, I'm gonna get back into VR and grab me a couple of the cameras to go with my cheap DIY slimes.
Wanted to say thank you for your content. I have learned a fair bit thanks to you. Your explanations are very comprehensible for Gen X'ers like myself.
Fun fact about SlimeVR software, if you dont want to buy the trackers but you have some Switch Joycons around, you can connect them and use them as trackers :)
I'm getting the parts together to do my own DIY's. I feel that allowing people to make DIY units and make changes to the design, use different parts and, as of this point in time, providing certain parts via their online store (they have their own version of the excellent BNO085 IMUs at a fraction of the price of ones made from companies like Adafruit) and even allowing people to sell their own variants is what keeps SlimeVR alive despite the delays and the communication from Eiran on the progress of the official units and real photos of stock/progress is what encourages people to wait through the delays. Honestly I have my IMUs arriving today and will be ordering other parts soon and I can't wait to make my own tailor-made design specific for my body (I'm keeping the IMUs separate from the microcontrollers to improve placement accuracy and so I can make them easy to replace/swap better IMUs when they become available/supported). There is so much potential and with enough support, they can only get better
I hope it goes well. After 60 hours of assembly and a dozen or more of trying to calibrate, they've been sitting on a shelf for 9 months. They were too frustrating to deal with.
The good of Vive Trackers is that as long as you have a SteamVR headset with base stations is that it just works with hardly any setup. SlimeVR can be a bit more of a pain with frequent calibration, posing and getting them in the correct location. My girlfriend is happy-ish with the set that I built by designing my own 3D Printed cases + learning soldering. It is just the frequent calibration when it is working that makes it a bit of a pain. Still a lot of fun and you can cover SlimeVR Trackers with clothing unlike HTC Vive Trackers which need constant view from base stations.
After building them and trying to get them working myself, it makes me want to just save up for vive trackers. Or really, I want to get the camera-based ones that HTC teased a while ago.
I've been waiting excitedly to get my set of the SlimeVR Trackers. I pre-ordered the full body set (7+3) Just alittle over 2 years ago. Nov 5th 2021, the shipping date keeps getting bumped back month by month. But I'm not mad about it watching their live streams of the production of the trackers. Here's to hoping they can complete my shipping order before the end of the year!
I... wish you the best. 2 years and anticipation probably built up a ton of expectations for you. My DIY ones were really frustrating to deal with, and they've been sitting on a shelf for the past 9 months.
I didn't know there was a calibration meetup!! I've just been fiddling with values till its decently accurate, but idk exactly what they all do. Particularly with 8 point (5+3) rotating my foot makes my knee move a little bit when its not irl. There's foot size and offset, but idk where its actually moving the pivots relative to the bone in 3d space. With that said, well calibrated imu trackers are definitely the way to go. My diy trackers stayed calibrated for a few hours accurately with only the quick reset. Slime FTW 💙
After seeing thrill's new video on Slime, I decided that I was going to make some myself, and for only $60 I was able to order all the parts for 5 trackers and 3 extensions! I'm so grateful for the people who worked so hard on this project, I don't have a lot of money so $390 is a bit much for a QOL feature, but Slime made it possible for me.
built mine 5+3 (6050)with absolute budget goal in mind during early 2022, i was shocked during first time wearing them, the UI was still the beta UI, but it was working good enough for normal tasks, it costed me total 70$ all raw materials, in clude straps and buckles, a lot it came from house hold supply, be creative and be careful(battery), it has been one of my best DIY journey ever. now I acquired BNO085 from the official store, upgraded my chest and waist, it is already so freaking good. A prime example of what a good community can archive, I am so happy to be one of them.
Been waiting a year and a half for my slimes, so I appreciate all the coverage and the progress they've made, but I'm nervous that my estimated shipping date can change again and maybe I won't actually have them till next year? Gaah, excited, tired of waiting, excited, waiting more, excited... someday will be awesome.
@@DarkSwordsmanThanks:) After 2 years using Cosmos I'm well experienced in making do with inferior tracking in the worst way. Recently picked up a Pico 4 and loving it so far. FBT will just be the cream on top. ❤
Aaaand now the ship date has moved out from under me YET AGAIN, literally the SEVENTH time this has happened. I tell myself every time that the new date isn't real, but it's still a big disappointment whenever I think to check back in. (I know I'm not alone, but by this time last year it was being promised in April. In April, June. In June, November. In November, December. It's not the waiting, it's being strung along like I'm chasing a slinky or something.)
I adore how the community builds their virtual selves. It almost feels like a rite of passage to create them on your own. The magic of the virtual world! ✨
Vive/Tundra trackers actually use IMU technology as well. The lighthouses are there to correct the errors naturally generated in the IMU tracking process. At regular intervals, the lighthouse will send correction coordinates to the tracker, which (when combined with the IMU data) gives the tracker its location.
I had no idea about Slime VR and it's open hardware nature; that's awesome! I love Crowd Supply and was surprised to hear it mentioned in a RU-vid video for the first time, especially wasn't expecting it from this channel.
I'm not aware, and there probably is - but if not there definitely should be a system where you can just pop 2 cameras down and it gets your tracking like that. Sort of like a base station, but with no infrared tracking unit mumbo jumbo - like a kinect!
I did the DIY route and purchased the parts myself. the open source community is incredible. with people uploading custom PCBs with matching cases. making your home built set look completely pro.
I got really lucky and my SlimeVR production units happened to be in the the last shipment prior to the FCC certification issues. SlimeVR is definitely not as good as vive trackers but as a Quest PCVR user it has been really amazing to actually have full body tracking without having to pay for base stations. It looks like they're about to resolve the FCC issues now, so I'm hoping everyone else will start getting their slimes after waiting for such a long time.
I preordered my slime trackers last July, and still waiting on them, but even tho the wait is long, I am still excited for when I'll get them, because I meet people in VRChat who DIY'd them and their tracking is already pretty good, but those people tell me that the trackers that I will receive will have even better tracking. And the fact it can be used without light houses might truely change VR over time
ill say this you are one of the people who i find so inspiring and you have helped me find out who i am as a person in whole, i hope others find your channel to be just as helpful as much as it have helped me
It's so crazy how far VR has come since I was a kid, when I was growing up I saw movies like The Matrix and always said that games will be like that some day where we are fully immersed in them and control them with our real bodies, we obviously had things like EyeToy for the PS2 and dance mat attachments for the PS2 as well as a fighting game attachment that worked a bit like a dance mat, now we have community made FBT and eye tracking, haptic suits and omnidirectional treadmills that allow us to be fully immersed in any game we play, all we need now is a game like Second Life or Entropia Universe that allows us to explore a whole connected world or multiple connected worlds with space travel between them where we have the option to make real money
Really enjoyed the Slime VR video! In reference to the issue with devices dropping: this often happens when a router is handling too many connections. With a full Slime VR setup plus other devices, it's a common challenge. Upgrading to a more robust router, possibly with Wi-Fi 6, can make a big difference in managing multiple devices. Alternatively, setting up a second router could help distribute the load. Keep up the fantastic work with your VR content!
Im really interested in how well it holds up against vive for doing crazy stuff we do like breakdancing. These slime look lighter and really secure. Great video
As a Roo thats used both SlimeVR and Vives i can tell no occlusion is great, but also laser pointed accuracy is also great, If your moves are to fast sometime Vives get out of wack, and Slimes drift faster with faster moves. When using Vives i hate when my shirt covers my hip tracker, and the spikes on Vives are big, with slimes they are much smaller, but more of them. But over all for dancing get more Full units Slimes and they hold up well, since the cords to auxillery trackers (feet) can be a weakness!
@@idaofficial1173 Your welcome, im not the only person that has both solutions, but I feel most FBT and HMD's for vr has ups and downs , and being informed is the only way to be able to pick, unless money is picking for you. SlimeVR +play anywhere wifi is, +no occlusion +great price , + great community ,+/- works best with Quest with SteamVR, - wearing more units, -resets, Vive +higher spacial accuracy ,+less units ,+/- works best with SteamVR tracked HMDs, - stuck in one room, -occlusion, - high price. and no problem
I'm glad you update past coverage of hardware because it does evolve and change over time. Case in point right here. Vive Trackers are good but without lighthouses they are useless and with tracking occlusion or interference it can lose position quickly. Forget napping with it if you like a blanket. While early, this solves a lot of problems and disrupts the market in a way that'll move things forward for the industry.
What you gain in cheaper cost and not dealing with occlusion, you lose in user experience and frustration. SlimeVR are not easy to setup and deal with. This is a fact that people don't pay attention to.
She covers this exact topic, and the developers even talk about how it's essentially an open source project and the software in very much in beta. For some people, they have more time to invest than cash, or some a pioneering spirit to use them first hand and contribute to the source code.
I haven't shut up about SlimeVR trackers for the past while, though the reason for it is the same reason for a lot of people still waiting for their trackers. I'm an early backer from August 2021, but it wasn't early enough since I didn't get them on the first or second shipment. Maybe the elusive third shipment which was held in US Customs for over a month, told they weren't FCC approved, sent back to their country, and now we're still waiting. Maybe by Christmas? Early next year? Then I'll be able to rave about how great SlimeVR trackers are. I've been looking forward to these for a long while now.
The antlered rex at 0:46 looks a lot like an old friend that i dont really talk to much anymore. Makes me curious if its them, probably not, but that curiosity is there.
I'm really looking forward to the Slimes I ordered arriving someday. It will be my first experience with full body tracking. Hopefully they all work when they arrive. I won't have a spare set in the house like you did.
it would be amazing if there was a hybrid solution, like having a sensor that doesn’t need to have line of sight 100% of the time and are just used to reset the IMU trackers and minimize drift
apparently you can already use playstation move on pc as a basestation-ish thing, and you could combine it with IMU tracking... PSMoveServiceEx is the thing for it you'd have to rig up your own stuff to auto-reset the stuff tho
I built my own Slimes over a year ago. Still use them almost every time Im in VR. Also recently upgraded to the same IMU's SlimeVR uses in their units. I want vive trackers but for building Slimes myself for less than $100 its really worth it
I love VR racing and VR driving (truck simulator on ets2). I could sit for hours just driving around. But this + body tracking is next level. I could get in to that, but yea definitely will have extra cost for the gear+ I really prefer to get my own place and put a room specifically for vr gameplay so you have all the space you can ever want.
i just got my first headset and im already excited to someday get slime trackers. my friend told me when im ready for it, to check out slime so when i get some side cash i'll look into it (probably once all the shipping issues are resolved so im not adding to the problem haha)
Of course, I would be talking about them more often. The thing is, I can’t give an honest review because the only type of experience I’ve had with the sling trackers is the fact that they take up to a year to receive. I ordered mine like a year ago and still have not yet received it. I wish that they would advertise that the slime trackers take up to a year to be able to receive them. I contemplated being a RU-vidr so I can receive mine early.
I wonder how well using a WiFi based posture tracking system like WiVi or GoPose would work for VR, the software can work with the default WiFi equipment people already have, and it can work through walls so occlusion isn't a problem, and it works based off the reflections of your body and bones so trackers aren't needed at all.
Fun fact: the Nintendo Switch Joy-cons also use IMU, but one of the Labo VR kit mixes in the infrared camera with reflective stickers in a similar way to the lighthouse system in order to get the precision needed for the 3D drawing minigame.
omg i really whant this now thay sound so nice and that community collaboration meet up sounds like such a good idia and the one on one would help so much i want to join and get some slime trackers when i can
IF this gets popular enough, they could make custom one-piece suits that have the trackers in them already, or pockets for them. Might be more secure and comfortable than the bands.
Wow, I have a box of these wemos d1 mini(pro), because I absolutely love them. Small and to the point, and at a good time they sell for way less than $2 a piece in bulk. I use them for very important things, like turning on the leds.
usually i wanted to ignore vr cause i thought it was worth it if there was movement and the addons were too expensive ...but this is making me considering getting one
