A counter-sync drill bit is used to make a chamfered edge on a hole, how you were mentioning for some of the screws for the trem pivot points.

very cool series. I wont do all the suggestions but I will definetely use some of them. But I thought your suggestions were quite sound. Very good. How about a video on adjusting the tremelo when changing the gauge of strings.

@komoru That kind of tool will reduce the smoothnes of the arm movement compared to a well adjusted tremolo and also harden its movement.

@Juni41 Mmhh strange... No it does not change anything also because they are perfectly aligned with a CNC machine. I am going to post a video on how to setup these 6 screws properly for the best tremolo performance.

conversely it will halp your string to maintain its structure (which on the lows is pretty complex) by not facing many tensed angles

At 4:40 you refer to a self centering drill bit, cheap and widely available. It's mainly used in machine shop lathes for centered holes. Countersunks aren't always the best way to smooth the edge of a hole. I don't recommend carving screws, unless of course you are able to do it professionaly, and with stainless steel screws. Common alloy screws won't stand the stress and may bend or fracture. For real stability and extreme tremoloing, lube the nut (with graphite from a pencil tip)

Yes it is but as I demontrated in other videos and in thiese ones, a vintage tremolo can be set to work perfectly and will sound better than a two pivots one.

To make the modification of the screws you can also use a drill where to fix the screw, the bit enters the vice of the drill, and during the rotation make the mod. with an appropriate file. I don't know if you understand what I mean 😷

No for two reasons: 1) the sustain depends on the strings vibrating not on the "dead" part sunken in the tremolo. 2) the incidance angles the strings enter the bridge (which are the main responsible of strings tension and sustain) remain the same. Indeed you should find some sustain increase as more energy is directed and remains to the vibrating part of the string.

Thank bro for theses videos, they are really interesting and well explain. At 7:00 : Official Fender website strat setup guide do recommend to loose theses 4 internal screws for better smooth tremolo movement. However does it really change your tone to do that? What do you think?

Thank you. Structurally speaking, I suppose that's very cool. But you know Strat players---'authentic' and 'vintage' are the most important words we know, after Fender and 'Stratocaster'. In a stock vintage tremolo, the first inch or so of the string is resonating along, with everything else, within the sustain block. What I want to know is if drilling the sustain blocks to 'full bore' will alter the resonance sufficiently that you can hear it. Great vids, BTW, thanks for posting.

@Flatted357 Must be a wood at least hard as basswood not less than this if you're using 6 screws, not less than alder if you're using pivots..

I am planning to build a VH1 with ASH of course, possibly a might mite?? What should I keep in mind when choosing a body as it relates to installation and stability of a fender tremolo system (vintage) or other important functions or tone??

I've been working to improve the tuning stability of my strat tremolo. I notice that I have notches in my saddles from the strings. I saw this Fender video that recommends polishing the groves away but maybe you don't recommend this? I just wandering, is it possible to readjust the old strat tremolo with 6 points to the new and, everyone says, better version which has a 2 point by instaling those special 2 point screws and expanding the first and the sixt hole on the tremolo. How tight or loose should I leave the 6 screws holding the tremolo bridge? I have had some guitarists tell me to keep each screw 1/16" above the base of the bridge, while others tell me to keep them all screwed in snug to the bridge.

hi the non-vibrating prtions of the strings are NOT resonating. Drilling the hole won't affect the tone.

Have special drill bit manufactured to your drawings specs, to sharpen the bridge plate screw holes edge? Then go to a machine shop and have them carve a small slot 2 mm below the head of the six bridge screws? Should I demand they do not deviate from your crayon schematics?

hey i have an ibanez gio series guitar (has tremolo similar to fender stratocaster).. can i put tune lockers in that guitar ?? i know the neck is bent but still ... because i loosened the tremolo string but still no help ...

John Suhr who worked at Fender and now owns his own guitar company, speaks about the problems more comprehensively. the thing is that any Strat trem has a problem with the G and high E. don't believe it? tune the guitar, play a G major, dunk the bar, play again, now bend the G string one whole step anywhere on the fretboard and you'll see it goes flat. if you dunk the bar now it goes back to pitch again. take a look at Gotoh 510T trem block options with FST or FTS dunno what it's called.

Tensile strength is a dead heat for hardware store wood screws made of mild steel or low grade stainless. But...... but....... stainless is significantly softer and has a tendency to gall. So........ stainless is iffy. Stainless (304 - 316 series) is stain resistant, it is not necessarily strong. The fact is no wood screws are highly graded, mainly because they go into wood, and that's not strong at all.
