All do respect and I'm not pointing the finger but it would of been a really good idea to make 2-3 snow pits to find out imfomation of what's under the snow.Hopefully by now SETH H. HAS taken a LEVEL 1 AVALANCHE COARSE AND A LEVEL 2 IS IDEAL, A 1 AND 2 BOTH WOTH TOGETHER AND THEY WILL TEACH YOU EVERYTHING ABOUT SNOPITS,SNOW STABILITY AND INSTABILITY AND GO INTO DETAIL OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF SNOW, IT'S REALLY AMAZING.

scary stuff, and inspirational teamwork/leadership out of Seth and Brock. Everyone should hear this before going into the backcountry. Those little hints Seth talked about leading up should be warning signals, trust your brain's distrust of a situation

I deer hunt up in that area. Been up in there a lot. If this happened where I think it did, it is 3.5 miles from the old USFS guard cabin at Ledgefork Campground up to the area. That’s a long way to go on dry ground, let alone in the snow. Scary stuff.

😂 and I wrote that comment 30 seconds before Seth said it was a 3.5 mile walk. Two different spots though.

I heard story's of Darrick Doerner pulling drowning surfers up by there leashes on the North Shore. Crazy how Seth did something similar with a PowSurf leash. Heavy shit that day.

It's crazy how he found the dude with the tether of his snow surfer. The surfer stayed on top while he got buried. Someone should design an airbag system that's attached to a tether and can deploy if you get caught. I know they have airbag packs, but people still get buried wearing those, especially in terrain traps. A tethered airbag would be a lot harder to bury because it would act like a beach ball and have way too much buoyancy so it would float in almost all conditions, and searchers could use the tether to find you. You would know right wear to go because a bright orange ball would be sitting on the surface, obviously you'd want to probe and confirm with a beacon, but I think something like that could save a lot of people. You only have 15 min to find and undig a person.

It's an interesting, and creative idea. Considerations: Biggest potential problem is the drogue tether tearing off the pack and sending searchers on a wild goose chase as they begin the initial beacon searches. Avalanches are violent, snow chunks the size of cars or bigger, and often involve trees, rocks etc., creating a real opportunity to tear off the tether from the pack. Another lesser potential issue is space on the pack for this. I have a large avy air bag pack, and every inch is filled with my supplies. Most people (unwisely) opt for the smallest packs, and with limited space neglect/ are unable to bring real first aid kits, rescue kevlar sleds, bivy sacks, ultra light sleeping pads. One last problem is the tech itself, inflating a ball will take a separate air inflation system. There is an engineer out there who could probably figure that out, keeping it light weight (relatively) and simple enough to work.

the hardest part about the bc is how expensive training and extensive courses are. I totally get it, it will save you and your buddies life so every penny is worth it. But for an activity that, lets face it, lacks inclusitivity, i wish these courses could be done in an inexpensive way. Everybody should learn about avy danger. whether ur a weekend warrior on the resort or touring all the time. Would be cool or interesting to see if any of these big house name brands could start giving money to local shops or course instructors to give free sessions.

The thing that's always said is you want to get avy education like a Level 1 and a compantion rescue, but hope to never use it. Seth is boss for leading the charge. Jeremy's condition would've been a lot worse if he hadn't pulled his weight. MAD PROPS to him!
