there's also the chef on the Titanic who downed an entire bottle of bourbon in one go before he plunged himself into the water below, and everyone around him / that went in the same time as him froze to death - it was determined the alcohol warmed his body enough to just barely survive and he lived for 20+ years afterwards
@shtupidmate He also stayed on the ship until the absolute last second, so he spent less time in the water than everyone else. A combination of staying calm because of acceptance of fate and copious amounts of liquor actually saved him lol
@@shtupidmateIt's actually a misconception that alcohol warms up the body. It creates the 'feeling' of warmth, but actually decreases⬇️core🌡️ temperature.
To be honest, there's a good chance that he has less anxiety about it than he would otherwise. If he misses his flight again, he might _not die_ again. He has no reason to try to arrive on time, so he can just be lazy.
everyone can joke about it,a lot of countries do a jokes about my country, about camps, wars etc, so i can joke about this tragic to, still rhinks its sad of course, but humor, jokes, stand ups comedy is for make this softer, get over it,this is better way to manage with a problem
Yes it's extremely sad. I went to New York once and I had the chance to visit the memorial. Even though it's not a "fun" experience, it's absolutely worth doing if you ever go there
Imagine all the people who died on 9/11 who would've otherwise gone on to make something so great like seth macfarlane....Imagine all the other "Family Guys" we missed out on....
@@ninamemnga2520 true but it was initially cancelled after season 3. So around this time Family Guy was either already or on the verge of being cancel buy Fox. So had he been on flight 11 and died with all the others aboard that flight, it's heavily unlikely and damn near impossible that Family Guy would have been revived in 2004. And I say near impossible because Seth literally did most of the voices including Peter, Stewie and Brian along with plenty of minor characters.
But imagine if Seth wasn’t hungover and didn’t miss that plane but also rip to everyone that died on 9/11 my uncle was actually a cop who got injured but survived on the ground during 9/11
@@cesararana261 And it would be remembered far better as a cult show, like Duckman or The Oblongs for example. Because when you look back at the earlier seasons, they're really really good. That Seth 9/11 story is really interesting, i think Mark Wahlberg was also supposed to be in that flight.
@seestanquemandoproduccione2834 that's correct, Mark Wahlberg was supposed to fly on American 11 to LA for a film festival, but some friends of his decided last-minute it would be better to go to Toronto instead.
Whenever he watches any footage of 9/11, the thought process has got to be insane. “I was supposed to be on that plane and that was supposed to be me.”
Imagine if Seth MacFarlane's other characters (peter, quagmire, Carter, tom Tucker, Dr Hartman, Seamus, jasper) also appeared and each one claimed that he should be on that same flight
Reminds me of my high school science teacher. (As I recall) he was the runner up for the Teacher in Space program on the Challenger. If the teacher who won had opted out, got sick, didn't qualify, or any other number of things that would have kept her off the shuttle he was the next in line at the seat. EDIT: Just wanted to point out that I don't really know the validity of the story my teacher mentioned. He never came off as dishonest, so it is possible I misinterpreted exactly where he landed in it as I was a bit more concerned about my grade than the story of something that happened prior to my birth, lol. But I definitely recall it because of how he adamant he was about narrowly missing being in that shuttle and valuing his life so much more after what he considered an incredibly close call.
@@Apollo5595 Don't know. He had a LOT of news papers and memorabilia from that contest. That and his story is all I remember. This was all back in 2001 and I definitely wasn't in the mind to commit it to memory at that age, lol.
Peter: I was supposed to be on one of those planes, too. Quagmire: So was I. Carter: Me too. Dr Hartman: Me three. Sheamus: Aye, I too was supposed to be on the plane. Jasper: Yeah, I was supposed to be there. Tom Tucker: Good evening, I’m Tom Tucker and I was supposed to be on the plane on 9/11. Stan Smith: What a coincidence, I was supposed to be there. Roger Smith: Yeah so was I. Tim The Bear: I missed the flight. Koolaid Guy: Jeez, I nearly died that day. Ted: Yeah thank God we all survived that day.
I’ve never met Seth MacFarlane, but I have no idea how he narrowly missed death in one of the most infamous events in world history, and yet he’s so nonchalant when talking about it. It would be as though he was riding in the same limousine as John F. Kennedy when he was assassinated and narrowly missed getting killed.
i mean i wouldn’t really be too pressed about a plane i didn’t get on either. same as a car accident you weren’t in, a trip or slip that didn’t make you fall, or an injury that didn’t scar. no harm no foul.
Dude this probably affected him ALOT, he's just a Comedy Writer, a Professional, they usually hide their emotions well. Just god the thought alone sends shivers down my spine.
There's multiple. One where he boarded and became another member of the 27 club (not kidding he was 27 in 2001) one where he boarded but nothing happened because the terrorists didn't make it past security. And one where he still died but of alcohol poisoning the night before, and many many more.
And there's one where Seth made his flight, then 9/11 happened and the rest being history, except Fox had Dwayne Johnson voice Peter, Seth Rogen voice Brian, and Keegan-Michael Key voice Stewie.
My grandfather (rest his soul) was supposed to be on the flight that crashed in a Pennsylvania field on 9/11, luckily missing the flight due to a luggage mix-up with someone having the same bag as him.
I think he also referenced this with the cutaway of the guy being too happy he was late for his job in the building he worked in, one of the 9/11 targets
The best 911 joke I've heard: "I was supposed to be on that plane, but the more interesting story is how I met Osama." Jimmy Carr always has the best punchlines 👌
Makes me wonder about all the others who died that day. If Seth made his flight, he'd just be a memory to his friends and family and a name on a plaque.
The fact that he jokes so lightheartedly about basically his own potential real world death in actual tragedy just goes to show that the comedy style in family guy is legit. He really just doesn’t give af about anything if even that is fair game
This story actually reminds me of a happenstance situation that happened. My Great Aunt mentioned to me about a relative of hers who had a ticket for the maiden voyage over 100 years ago, the reason he didn’t attend the cruise was because he had to take care of someone sick, I believe it was either his spouse or sibling, I can’t recall which one.
Few people get to experience that, surviving something without knowing it then finding out a few hours change could have meant you wouldn’t be sitting where you were at that moment.
Fun fact: Mark Wahlberg and three of his friends were also supposed to be on one of those flights, but they changed their plans at the last minute at the airport.
Fun fact: the number of people who have to date claimed they were "supposed to be on one of those planes" exceeds the total capacity of the planes involved by about 10x their actual occupancy. People lie for attention. Shocker.
@@jirdenFlight 93, the crash in Pennsylvania. I think Marky Mark chose to get on a flight to Toronto instead, I think...like visiting friends, or something.
@@jirdenI don’t know much about Wahlberg’s claim but he’s not in the Flight 11 passenger list. If you go to the list you can see Seth’s name and it says “cancelled by airport” next to it.
You know, technically Brian and Stewie are not wrong to say they were supposed to be on that plane. They are creations of Seth's, so if he died, they would have died with him. Therefore, all of Seth's characters were supposed to be on that plane.
Technically they are totally wrong. I very much doubt either Brian or Stewie would have got a bording pass considering they are both animated cartoon characters. So even if Seth had taken that flight and perished, the cartoon characters of Brian and Stewie would have still existed and could have continued being voiced by Paul Lynde or somebody.
i kind of like how far detached everything in family guy is from reality that any character can just say “i was supposed to be on one of those planes” and you can just take it at face value
It's funny. Because at the same time as stating that Seth was supposed to be on one of the planes, he also makes fun about the trope that everyone and their grandma was supposed to be on one of those planes. Nevertheless, I'm glad Seth missed his flight.
Randomly assigning "miracle" to things that happen is the epitome of stupid. Was it a miracle for all of the people who died on the three hijacked planes, or in the twin towers? I bet they didn't think it was a miracle as they leapt from the 90th floor windows on fire.
Seth was very lucky if not for his hangover he wouldn’t be here today to give us family guy and voice characters or give us new creations like the Ted series 😊❤️
When i was in school whenever a teacher said alchole never saved anyone my response was always. "No, it saved the creator of family guy. He got so hung over and drunk that he missed his flight and he was going to be on the 9/ll flight " The teacher would then claim that alchole didn't save him and i would go "no, the hangover did which was caused by the alchol, so the alchol did save him. "
Imagine 23 years ago you had to take a flight on September 11th on Flights 11, 175, 77 and 93 but by accident you fell asleep and when you got to the airport you had already missed that flight while you insulted yourself for not being responsible, after a few minutes you found out on the airport television that the flight you were supposed to take had been kidnapped by terrorists and they crashed it with all the people included, No one survived, not even the attackers... It's one of those times when you are thankful for arriving late to a place and all those famous people who arrived late without knowing what would happen had God's luck
Seth Macfarlane reminds me a lot of Norm MacDonald in how often they use morbid comedy mixed with absurdism to cope with their cynicysm, and just like Norm, I imagine that when he's not joking about 9/11 then he's probably dwelling on it in a very exestential manner.
Honestly, there would just be the simpsons because if he boarded flight 11 then it would have been done for him and family guy would'nt be a thing! What a lucky man.
South Park, boondocks, and futurama are to name a few that would still be extremely popular, I won’t count bobs burgers because the creators that show were in pretty sure were heavily influenced by that show and I wont count robot chicken because I think Seth greens voice on family guy was what got him enough clout with adult swim to make robot chicken
I never knew Seth was supposed to be on one of them I always interpreted that joke as them both being those people who try to make 9/11 about themselves despite having no real connection to it
Today marks 22 years since that day. Oh really,I remember the surprise of knowing that Imagine how much different Family Guy would have been I call that a miracle... Edit: It's been 23 years since these events and I know that Seth McFarlane is an atheist. But the truth is I think anyone would become a Christian after seeing how you were saved from a flight in which you would not survive.
