Great video Dan, I love the way you explain various ways to set the club and identify the problems each can create without insisting that any of the them is incorrect. Instructors who teach as if their is only one way to properly swing a club are simply wrong and your ability to acknowledge that reality and to intelligently discuss the variables and options present in every swing is refreshing. More importantly, your cogent explanation of which options lead to the most consistent and reliable swing make enormous sense without insisting that it has to be done that way. I wish I lived in the UK rather than the states so I could arrange some lessons with you and buy you a pint for the generosity you show in sharing your swing wisdom.

Hardly seen any golfvideo as informative as this. I espescially like the way you elaborate on various aspects of the issue, because as golfers we all have different needs, and it is always more than one way to do it. Really liked this one!

Having played golf for many I've tried all three of these "set points". Cocking the wrists at the top can lead to varying face angle, and a harder to co-ordinate the arms and body downswing. Cocking the wrists early sets the angle of the clubface/wrists correctly, but takes away form the smoothness of the backswing. The best answer, start the backswing with the left arm straight and turn the shoulders. When the arms approach waist high start your wrist cock. You can groove this by looking back at your wrist cock position, and memorizing the feel at about half way to three quarters back in the backswing. Do this partial swing over and over until it becomes automatic. It really does work!!

Watch all the golf guys on RU-vid and without question you are the best at delivering informative and technical advice in a way that club golfers can understand. It's entertaining and inspirational, thanks for posting.

Thanks Dan, in the process of changing my swing this winter, using your lessons with Rick and your videos. I can already see improvement in my ball striking with increase in distance and shape. Keep doing what you do.

Hi Dan, just wanted to say. for me as a not very consistent golfer the tip you gave, where you say stop my arms moving when my body stops rotating has really just made things a lot clearer and given me a lot more control. i also feel i can stop fatting shots this way. but just to clarify then, the bigger or higher the back swing, the more body rotation i should use? and have i understood what you where getting at or am i off down the wrong path, yet again lol :) love your work

Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that players like Stenson & Willett (with an early wrist set) tend to hit down on the ball more than other players with a mid to late wrist set. Stenson's iron strikes sound like gun shots when he hits the ball and he takes HUGE divots. Willett's iron shots aren't as pronounced in terms of sound & taking large divots as Henrik's are but still seem similar in nature.

Awesome video Dan! Video idea: I'm having big issues trying to get into the slot as described in your "take timing out of... part 3". I can't get my head around how the wrists and arm angles and rotation work together. It would be nice to see a 3D measurement of it!

Another great vid, many thanks. You've certainly clarified many things for me. I took up golf in my forties using an early setting action( I had the Faldo teaching video). Recently have gone to the late style which has given me a far better strike and more distance, and usually more accurate, but have the occasional problem you describe; the block. With your preferred mid set position i guess I'd lose a bit of distance but gain more consistency. It's great that you share your knowledge with us without a pitch for dollars.

Dan, if I understood well, you recommend setting the wrists midway, let's say having an angle with the of 90 degrees when the left arm is parallel to the ground? Thank you.

Dan help needed please I have tried your style of takeaway but tend to swing too flat with the club swinging around the body too much. I note that as you explain the one piece takeaway which you prefer, the club is about a foot off the ground so how would the swing work starting with the clubhead on the ground so as to avoit swinging too flat. Thanks Ray

Didn't Sir Nick had a variable wrist set? Early set for short irons, mid(during 90degrees) for mid irons & late set for longer clubs

Keep it up Dan! Your videos are fantastic and a wealth of information. Your logical approach to the modern golf swing makes it easy to break it down and apply to your own golf swing. Plus the fact you upload during my breakfast over here in Canada is convenient haha.

All are way to complicated and secondly, activate hands and arms which short circuit the correct down swing move whether lower body or upper body sequencing.

Hi Dan, really enjoying your videos great way of explaining things that's easy to understand! Keep up the good work! As a suggestion I would really appreciate if you could share some home stretching and mobility exercises or drills to aid hip and shoulder turn. Cheers Rob

Hi Dan, In my downswing i often leave the weight on my right side leading to a 'hang back' and a high ball flight. Do you have any tips or drills to get the weight on the left side at impact. Thanks.

Dan - in a previous video you mention the "closure" at the bottom of the swing....I have a central question about how much hand movement should there be in the swing/should not be in the swing, AND, how does your answer differ if I am talking about a driver versus a long iron versus a midiron or short iron (if at all) ? This for me is a total mystery and it messes me up.

seems your "reducing the timing in your golf swing" videos are the answer

How do you feel your hands in front of your body at the top of the backswing? If I turn with my club in my belly button and look in the mirror it looks like its outside the plane and feels that way too. However if I do a comfortable backswing turn I have tendency to get stuck behind. I try feel that my hands should not go past my sternum at the top of the swing but from side on view it looks highish hands and outside the plane. How much levy do we get for 'in front of the body'? Is it ok to have my hands and arms around the tip of my right shoulder? This has always made me wonder. Stil I am and a plus handicap. I really want to improve my long game with proper turn as I am the one who went from the early set with clubhead coming inside then use hands to square up guy. And now i try not using wrists.. And i hit blocks when i try power up.

Ricci blackman You might check a couple of things: 1. Too strong a grip; 2. Club face at address aimed left; 3. Swing path out to in; and 4. Club head at Impact overtakes hands as wrists flip. Also you might work on getting your weight shift left earlier to leave room for a more in to out swing path. Hope these ideas help.
