For those of you say this is too much stuff, ball pythons do not like open spaces and prefer to be pretty secluded most of the time. Many breeders keep ball pythons In relatively small plastic bins their whole lives and while I do not necessarily agree with that, the snakes do fine in them. As long as you handle your snake somewhat regularly, this setup is perfectly fine.

THANK YOU. Every time I see a comment complaining about a cage with decor in it, I wonder if those people lecture the wild animals about too much stuff in their habitat, too.

yeah I agree about not keeping them in plastic bins.this cage is still to small. its good for like.....the first year and a half or so especially if you have a female (which I have by the way.) they need to be able to not burn themselves don't the light fixtures 40 - 60 gallon tank is what you are going to have that snake in the rest of it's life...... they like tight spaces so don't be cheap ! buy a few extra hide's in the cage. I use two, plus one shed box , once a month 1/2 when she is in shedding her skin fill a Tupperware container big enough for her to fit in and that is the best way for perfect shed's sometimes you need too let the substrate dry or you will get mold so this helps a lot.

I had my ball on heat pad only humid it y always perfect he eats great very active when I hold him very great snake but did have to put a light in after he got about 2 ft heat pad great for hatching and baby's but when they get a little size I seem to have better luck with heat lamps. I'm gonna definitely try some moss.

Nice job... better than the Rubbermade approach. I've never had luck with glass aquariums though, as the humidity just escapes out the top (dry winter air!). There are several front door options that would look nice with your setup.
@HeatherMajestic
@HeatherMajestic 11 лет назад
It varies from company to company but more than likely with the added cost of the snake (prices vary from morph to morph) plus the cost of all of this, you're more than likely going to spend anywhere from $200 - $400+.

Something this video does not cover is managing humidity in a screen topped terrarium. Ball pythons need modest humidity since they are accustomed to living in burrows underground. I would reccommend fitting a plywood cover over the top with some venting to allow some air exchange but also maintain humidity supplied by moist cypress.

Best temperature solution imo is just buying an infrared heat gun. I have one and make my rounds around the house. I use it for snakes, my aquariums, baking... Also handy for making sure aquarium water is the right temp before adding it in to a tank, or making sure snake baths are the right level of toasty.

Good video but cypress mulch is a substrate I definitely don't recommend, can easily increase chances of respitory infections and if not taken care of, mites or scale rot. It's not horrible but there are way better choices. I love the eco earth coconut substrate mixed with forest floor
@LLLReptile1
@LLLReptile1 7 лет назад
Zoo med forest floor bedding is 100% Cypress Mulch. Just re-branded... Mixing in some eco earth is good, but can dry out quicker, which is why we like cypress alone, but both are ok to do. :)

Since aquariums don't retain that much of the moisture due to the screen top, would the exo terra monsoon be a good investment to maintain the necessary humidity for a ball python? I wasn't sure because I don't want to line it with plastic wrap. It's unattractive and I'd like to make a show tank, even though they're content with something simple.

Guys I'm really stressing over the temperatures. To be clear I don't have my ball python yet, I've just set up the vivarium. I have a thermostat and heat map. If I put the thermostat sensor underneath the substrate then it turns off too early. If it put it on top then the ambient temperature is good but I'm a worried that the bottom will burn the snake. How hot would the surface of the glass have to be to cause damage to my snake? My heat map is stuck underneath a glass vivarium.

Komatose MKDOA for ball pythons clutter is actually beneficial because since the walls are glass they tend to feel exposed therefore it’s actually import that you but more “clutter” in the tank so they feel secure.

You know, I thought about this shit really hard. People "claim" that a ball python only needs a small enclosure, 30 to 50 gallon tank will apparently work for an adult. Well a lot of people "claim" that larger tanks will stress your ball python out, HOW THE FUCK IS THAT POSSIBLE IF THEY LIVE IN THE WILD NATURALLY. I think the larger the tank the better as long as you keep humidity and heat at proper levels.

@cupsnake7996 8 лет назад
Well, if you're putting it next to a window you would still need a UV lamp (UV rays don't go through windows, long sciency story) and maybe a heat lamp. A heat pad is generally ideal, as that allows the snake to thermoregulate (change its own body temperature by moving to different areas, basically). And if it's warm enough in your room you won't need a thermal lamp.
