Setting up a a Basic KU Band Satellite System for Satellite TV
I this video i discuss setting up a basic KU Band satellite system to receive broadcast satellite TV in North America. I go through what to buy, the best place to find equipment and approximate costs for each compponent.
**Please note that the costs are approximate costs in US Dollars. Generally the costs are the lowest I could find, as I would assume most people (including myself) are interested in paying the least amount they have to.**

Checking in before making my first system. I took your advice and bought a 39in dish, with a single output LNB like you showed. A mount and universal LNB to convert an DishHD satellite dish for my secondary experiment. And a GTMedia V9 Prime as they had a sale going on and it was only $40. Got two poles from people down the road who still had just the poles concreted in their yard after ditching Dish Network. Got RG6 cables from a house who no longer used them. Reusing some aluminum piping for the buried main wire to the house, and found a box full of DiSEqC switches for $1 each at a thrift store. So far I'm in $240 USD. Making this because we live in the Georgia mountains in the USA, and OTA tv signal sucks up here. Thank you for your help. I've watched so much from you and you've made yourself a good teacher. Two thumbs way way up!

I'm moving into a new place and need to re-set-up my FTA dish.. hopefully I can remember how to do it (eg the aiming of the dish, as even 97W is so particular you have to aim it perfectly to get all the channels, as in the past I got a few channels on it with good signal, but can't pick up other channels on it.. go figure)...

What is better than RG6 cable that has a steel coated center conductor??? I found all copper construction for a good price and would like to use that instead. But I have been reading that you can purchase copper that is silver plated for even better picture quality. What would you recommend me to use ??? Thanks
@NorthcoasterHobby
@NorthcoasterHobby Год назад
I think copper centre is best, but most new RG6 cable will work fine. RG6 Quad shield is a good choice to prevent signal loss on long cable runs. Stay away from RG59 cable.

So, getting ready to install my J-pole mount. If I can't get the pole end to be plumb, it should not matter, correct? Since I can adjust the elevation of the dish to compensate? For example, if my mount is not plump but slightly tilted up (eg it aims up towards the satellite), I can simply lower the elevation angle of my dish, right?
@NorthcoasterHobby
@NorthcoasterHobby 10 месяцев назад
Yes, you will have a bit of wiggle room, but try to get the pole as plumb as possible. It makes it easier.

Hi Bro. Can I know what is the advantage of using High Gain LNB? Does using this High Gain LNB : a. increase the chance of getting stronger signal quality b. capturing more channels c. or able to capture outside beam footing Your help and expertise are highly appreciated.
@NorthcoasterHobby
@NorthcoasterHobby 2 года назад
I’ve only used the LNBs you see in the video. I am able to capture all channels I’d expect to receive on a given satellite. ‘High Gain’ sounds like a marketing ploy, like ‘HD Digital TV Antenna’. These ones I have get the job done just fine. Thanks for watching! 📡

@@NorthcoasterHobby Actually that is sage advice for people like myself who live in apartment and having a dish is a no-go, and for people who want a dish, and should not get suckered into the gimmicks of marketing. I know when my mom was a kid, they did the same when TV went from black and white to color...when a common antenna was all that was needed.

@@NorthcoasterHobby The secret is the LNB noise. The LNBs that have 0.1 Db noise figure has a better reception and is ideal for smaller dishes or weaker transponders (sometimes satellites out of footprint) than the ones that have 0.2 Db or 0.3 Db. I would recommend AMIKO and RT INVERTO LNBs.

@NorthcoasterHobby

A bigger dish is always better, but try that one out and see how it performs, since you already have it.
