@@Jaywil07??? Hey, Jay. My grandson of 12 is wanting to set up frogs at my house. We are needing to know just how much work is entailed weekly, monthly, etc. We are trying to determine if this is the responsible thing for us to do. We would rather not do it than harm a frog. If you could help us in this endeavor, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
Just a note for beginners... Recommend never putting Brom's in the substrate... Keep them elevated on background or wood or else they will rot in no time.
Very true. If you DO like the look of the broms but would like a plant to go into the substrate Ide recommend one of the Cryptanthus variety. The "Pink Starlite" and "Ruby" versions are both quite nice and ad a splash of color to a terrarium.
I wish I had read this sooner. Found out after the total loss if my prettiest one. I am restructuring for those plants to be elevated. Thanks for the advice!
Me, too. My grandson of 12 wants to set one up at my house. We are trying to figure out if this is a responsible thing for us to do or if it is too much.
@@Jaywil07 sir i have a question. Can I have isopods only as a clean up crew for bio active enclosure for dart frog? I already bought everything for bioactive enclosure but forgot about my clean up crew I bought the tadpole frog as well and have it in a tank for now. Do you think it will work with only isopods?
Nice to see you do a dart from video. I got into dart frogs after I had a 90g aquarium leak and ruin my kitchen floor. 1) you don't need spaghnum moss over the ABG. Thats super old school. Leaf litter over the abg is just fine. 2) you need a way to drain the water out of the drainage layer once it builds up.
Great videos! As a biologist, however, my ears heart every time you said spagma moss. 🤣Spagmoss is a brand name. The moss is called sphagnum [sfag-nuhm] moss.
These are really interesting lil creatures & looking forward to seeing them in here! 👍😏 I started bird keeping a few months back & also just uploaded a new "NON MALAWI CICHLID" newbie at my all African Cichlids home!!! 😮😮😮
Jeez dude is it necessary to announce the steps seconds before you just go ahead and do it? "First we add the false bottom! Okay we're adding the false bottom! After this we add the liner. I am now in the process of adding the false bottom. After this comes the liner so stay tuned for that. Okay moving on to the liner. That goes after the false bottom. We're adding it now!" I know you need 10 minutes but there are better ways.
Damned if I do damned if I don’t lol. Did a video with out it people complained did a video with it people complained........ hmmmmmm I see a trend. I don’t need 10 minutes by the way 😂
Looking cool Jay! I just went to the reptile expo here in Sacramento CA. Didn't come back with any new pets but it was a very cool place to be! Wish the would do an aqaurium expo here. We need it to happen lol!
Where did you get the mushroom things? I tried looking in your links and didn't see them. Which could have been my fault...but I would really like to get some. I am thinking they could spruce up my White's tree frog tank.
Great job setting it up and explaining everything. Liam was pretty excited and happy with it. Plants and all look good...and now we wait ever so impatiently, lol.
This video was made prior. Also ABG contains Spag in it so that makes sense. We will always learn and the future will always bring new ways doesn't mean the old way was bad or not good.
The brown clay false bottoms look much better. They fit the natural look & don’t contrast like the white. There are also new enclosures with drain ports on the bottom. Makes things so much easier. Cool video.
I don’t saturate. But in the event you need to drain water you can drill a hole or use a small pump and tube to retrieve that water through the drainage layer. But if done there shouldn’t be too much water down there.
Good Lord, if I hear you say SPagnum moss one more time, I'm gonna loose it. Say it with me, Sphagnum Moss. Say it like this, sfag-nuhm. And Bromeliad, pronounced broo-mee-Lee-ad.
Have to I don’t think you have to do anything but it really helps the eco system you are building and provides a little protection for the frogs in terms of getting caught in the moss
Do what you want really. Most do backgrounds because most companies that make tanks like that either have cheap Styrofoam backgrounds with them or corkboard, also most show setups do backgrounds so they can add waterfalls or the likes behind them.
Joshua Ramish in the description it was corrected it was a mistake when speaking. Sphagnum has since been covered via leaf litter. Thank you for watching. Appreciate the feed back
Awesome looking tank, did a great job. I'm sure your boy (and you, lol) are truly going to enjoy it for years to come. Did you intentionally get 3 to boost the odds of getting a breeding pair ?
No it’s what was recommended. I now have 1 but have given him away to someone with a breeding program. Now I will reset and get these puppies filled again
Which vivarium kit you got? 18 inches one? How much I will be looking to spend in a kit like this or something that will take good care of the froggies? I am new at this but want to give it a shot without killing the frogs. TIA.
thank you!! I’m no where near a beginner when it comes to reptiles but I’ve never handled dart frogs, and every guide I found has told me something different.
