Setting up a MyLocoSound steam sound card

Following a request for more information about how I set up my MyLocoSound cards, I've produced this little video demonstrating my setting-up process. I show how to set the start-up level for the sounds, the chuff-rate and how to set up the card so the loco goes into to 'coasting' mode when slowing down or coming to a halt. NOTE: This loco uses a Deltang Rx65b receiver/ESC. Other ESCs may give different results, particularly when trying to go into 'coasting' mode. For more information about MyLocoSound cards see www.mylocosound... . For more information about Deltang equipment, see www.deltang.co.uk/ For more information about the Peckforton Light Railway see riksrailway.blo...

Thanks, great video. It's simple to setup once you know what your doing. Thanks for your help. On my MyLocoSound Premium British Edition, the Chuff Sensitivity is not on the "8" button, but on the [Mute] [Power Button] - Press [Power Button] multiple times once in [Mute] Sound Settings mode. same logic One Beep is most sensitive. Five beeps least sensitive. When finished press [Mute] again to take you out of Sound Settings.

Thanks. I think they've changed the setting on the most recent version. Looks like I might need to make another video.

4 chuffs per revolution is what you get from a 2 cylinder loco, which is probably what your model represents.There is still some faint chuffing when coasting. I realise that a little steam might have been admitted by the driver, but is it possible to reduce this even more? It sounds more as if the attack is being adjusted than the actual volume.
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 6 лет назад
Hi Simon. No, that's the extent of the adjustment. Not possible to completely eliminate the chuff entirely - it would be nice to have some brake squeal as well.

Ge Rik Thanks. I personally think that there is a lot of unused capability within DCC sound modules, with a lot of manual functions, a lack of intelligent programming and a requirement for sound effects to be triggered by software, except on some of the modules for larger scales, where more than 3 external switches can be used. But that’s a whole other story!

Just bought the bits I need to do my own first 16mm scale loco and I thank you for this tutorial, it's excellent, but I'm curious about your loco here! What kind is it, who makes it?
@rikbennett9
@rikbennett9 5 лет назад
Hi. Glad it's been useful. The loco is bashed from a rather tatty LGB ToyTrain Otto loco - made to vaguely resemble a Black Hawthorn 0-4-0 (Kettering Furnaces No. 3). There's more about how I constructed it on my blog - riksrailway.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/how-i-bashed-lgb-otto-into-sort-of.html

if i connected the output to a line in or something would it have the full range sound? like with bass and everything? or is it still relatively low bit rate with cutoffs at the low end below 200hz

@@DanNeighbour Hi Dan. I'm not sure which part of the world you are in, so your best option is to go to the MyLocoSound website ( mylocosound.com/ ) and click on the How to Purchase tab. You can then locate your nearest supplier,. Rik

Hey, I've just received a MyLocoSound Premium Steam soundcard and wanted to program it with the provided TV remote, but I just can't find the correct IR code to do it. The soundcard manual says it should be one of the Sony TV codes, either 0140, 0180 or 0188, but all that does is activate the whistle or other functions whenever I press ANY of the buttons on the TV remote... Can anyone help me out?
@rikbennett9

I've only ever used the remotes which MLS sell and never had a problem. I did try using a Sony remote from my old TV but it didn't respond at all.

Hi Joe. Assuming you have the most recent version of the card then you need to turn on the loco and the card and then press the MUTE button on the TV remote control. You then press the 1 (one) button on the TV remote and the card will emit a number of beeps showing which whistle sound you are using. Pressing the 1 button again will increase the number of beeps by 1 and change to the next sound. After 6 beeps it goes back to sound number 1. You can hear the whistle by pressing the MUTE button again and then pressing the 1 key to hear it. Hope that makes sense. All the manuals for the various versions of the MLS soundcard can be downloaded from mylocosound.com/mylocosound_034.htm
