In this tutorial I will show you how to set up a new Epson printer for sublimation. It is important to designate this printer to sublimation only. Sublimation uses a special ink that is not compatible with other inks. If you get a used Epson ecotank printer there is a way to clean out the old ink but it is quite the process and I will not be discussing that in this tutorial. Next, you will need several items to get started with sublimation. First is sublimation paper, sublimation ink, a heat press/mug press, heat tape and sublimation blanks. Now for the unboxing. Open your box and place the instructions and power cord to the side. Discard/donate the ink it came with. Remove printer from box and take off the blue tape. Plug in power cord and turn on. Select the language of your preference, hit ok. Next it asks if you want to set up smart printing app. I opted to set my printer up through direct connection so that I don’t inadvertently send my projects to my other Epson printer. So I selected set-up later/next. Now it prompts you to press and hold the ? for more than 5 seconds. Now it is time to fill the ink. NOTE: do not squeeze the bottle to prevent splattering. Open the scanner lid, then pull back the lid from the ink tank. Unscrew the ink bottle and lift the blue tab. Snap the corresponding ink into place. You can see and hear the ink filling the tank. There will be a little extra ink in each bottle, save this to top off after priming or to refill as it gets low. After each color is filled close the lids and select Start button to confirm it is filled. Lastly, it will ask if you want to perform a nozzle check, and alignment. I would recommend this since it is a new setup to help ensure premium performance on your new printer. Follow the prompts and you are now finished!
