Thank you to Adorama for providing me with the equipment to create this video. Adorama has been my camera store of choice throughout most of my photography career. Flashpoint has been a crucial component in my photo workflow.
In this video, you get a snippet and dive into what my process is when setting up for mobile headshots. If my clients can't meet me at the studio, I go to them. For this photoshoot, I met the client where they were hosting a meeting. I provide a step by step visual guide as to how to setup for headshots using my 1 Light headshot setup headshot.

Part 2 and 3 of this video: (Where I go through the interaction and posing process with the subjects along with the editing of the headshots) can be found exclusively on my Patreon Subscription based app.
The in depth all access videos provide a (step by step tutorial) of how i edit my headshots.

Hi, The tall leg of the C-Stand needs to face the same direction as the grip arm, and a sandbag on it. in this case, should be under the light. it's more stable. Also, mounting the strobe on the end of the arm isn't recommended, better mount a Griphead on the rod, with a "baby pin" and mount the light on the pin. Cheers :) .

I know he did. It doesn't negate my remarks. there's a correct way of using equipment.@@stephenmatthews5437

Thanks for the info. Why does the grip head with baby pin work better? New to c-stands.

Great work!! I saw that the C-stand was still a bit wobbly. I have learnt that putting the heaviest side (which ever direction your boom arm is facing) on the same side as the longest leg will help balance your stand even without weights.
@shootwithray
@shootwithray 21 день назад
yes in this video it did appear to be a bit wobbly but I assure you it was secure

I see it was mentioned, and I know you "tested" the C-Stand, but the tall leg should be in the same direction as the full weight of the boom arm, with a sand bag on it. You're risking a lawsuit, no matter how much your wiggle test worked. Also, place foam or tennis balls on the exposed part(s) of the boom.

If the photographer is out of reach of the stand, then yes, it's risky. In this situation, the stand is sturdy, and if it happens to fall for some reason, the photographer can easily reach forward and grab it. I see no problems here.

Thanks for making this. One of the clearest, most concise breakdowns of headshot lighting I’ve seen. Loved that you also explained the why and reasoning of each aspect of the setup. It was great that you named each piece of gear and put the gear names on screen. Super-helpful!

Thanks for sharing Ray! I can see this is an older video because I know you’ve made some set up changes. It would be nice to get down to a one light setup. I would just need a that bigger 48” softbox. Recently downgraded to the mini reflector for convenience and have been loving my x drop (hated my old circle pop out one like in your video)

Brother always make sure the biggest leg of stand is always facing the direction of light I have suffered once, I had bought a big diffusion roll for my product photography I angled that roll on the C-stand in the direction of smallest leg and boom it fell on my flat lay also the whole diffusion roll opened up many folds so many creases and cuts on that diffusion I have always learnt a lesson from that. you did superb portrait subscribed.

Heyyy! Thank you so much. I realized while editing the video I did mess up with the leg position on the C-Stand. Honest mistake, but thank you again for watching and for the comment :)

A unique set up that produces excellent results. It looks like open shade (what Jerry Ghionis likes to use). Is the softbox parallel with the floor or slightly opened away from the subject such that it’s more parallel with the angle of the arc lighting? I couldn’t tell with the angle of the video camera. Thanks-Greg

Question. When using the strobes, do you cut out all the ambient and room light before you take the photos?
@shootwithray
@shootwithray Год назад
Typically with a low ISO and SS at 1/200 or above the ambient light gets cut out. No need to turn it off. Does that help?

You don't have to say side when you're talking about profile. Profile in this context MEANS side, so saying side profile is redundant.
