I did this before I knew what it was..lol..I learned a lot..my tips are buy many of these tiny fresh water fish to school....a sucker fish to eat algae or at least a few snails
I like those suggestions. it has been running for a bit (I took awhile getting it posted) and i just let it do it’s thing to see what happened. Definitely have some interesting findings, will shoot a video on that soon and then work to balance it it. I’ll look into your suggestions! Thank you
I've thought about aquaponics before because I love the idea of it, but was never sure if I am up for the maintenance. I am looking forward to an update on this!
It's missing the light for the plants you are growing! Because it's an aquarium and needs stable temperatures, you also don't want to put it in direct sun such as near a window.
Neat kit. I’m predicting that a single tiny fish won’t be able to support the nutrient requirements for all the tomatoes. I could be wrong! Who knows? I look forward to seeing how it works for you.
@@The_IndoorGardener Yep, it’s a good experiment. I know commercial aquaponics places use certain fish and feed them certain foods to grow specific crops.
Is there a way to add a heater for this fish? I keep my Betta aquariums practically overstocked with plants, so maybe this wouldn't work for me. If I had one of these, I would stock it with cold water white cloud minnows instead of maybe ghost shrimp if there's no heater option
No it shouldn’t, the three trays have slits where the roots can reach down and the water can run through. It was just a small sponge that is just at the one end. Plants are doing great!
So…. How is it going??! If I can get some success with my regular AeroGarden Harvest (I haven’t opened it yet; I got a secondhand one off of Poshmark for my birthday, but my birthday is not until Dec 25 and I like to wrap it and open it on my birthday!) I would like one of these for my classroom!!
I've got lots of room, and I've been considering doing this on a much, *MUCH* larger scale. However, with great scale comes great responsibility. *lol* 🐟💩 🌱
@The Indoor Gardener No specific plans as of yet. I've just been educating myself up to this point. My biggest problem is, I live in area that would require a heated facility in the winter. That's kind of a big deal. Of course a good, large greenhouse would suffice. I have some experience with hydroponics, but not aquaponics. Although going from one to the other shouldn't be that difficult, in theory.
