Great tutorial Gar, I always kept my P Regius in an enclosure of that size, it’s amazing how much they explore in the day time!

I've heard top opening enclosures arent good because these spiders build their nests at the top. Water bowls are no good either...jumping spiders easily drown
@DiscoTekka23
@DiscoTekka23 3 года назад
Is that not the point of the lip on the top of the enclosure ?? To stop the nest touching the lid?
@DiscoTekka23

@@lovemesomepickles Iv had mine in the same enclosure for about a year now and have never broke the hammock 👍 I love these enclosures I even use one for my lynx spider.

From what I've seen dedicated water bowls are risky, apparently this is due to drowning. I've also seen the overwhelming consensus that top open enclosures are not great as you risk damaging their hide/nest when opening should they create it over the edge/lip. Any thoughts on that from your experiences? *edit* I should also as that these ideas are just what I've come across while reading about keeping these spiders, not that I'm claiming you're wrong or dont know what your doing :)
@kushpaladin
@kushpaladin 3 года назад
The lip on the top prevents that. They will create their nest in between the space of the lip and the glass, so the top can be removed without damaging it

@@rishabjain2960 I use cork rounds. These basically resemble hollow branches (they are) and spoods love to camp out in these at night. My two spoods never camp out on the top of the enclosure, always in the hollow cork rounds.

My spoods love the cork tubes. They nest in these instead of on the top.

Just want to say that is the ideal set up in my opinion haha. It is so visually nice to check out but I wish so much that it didn't open at the very top so as to not disturb the lil web burritos those lil spoods love to construct lol... ahhh man I so wish this had a lid that opened a quarter or 3rd down from the top! so nice !

I don’t recommend a cylindrical habitat for a Jumping Spider. Mine seems like it’s becoming disoriented in it, and is becoming less interested in food. (It’s already molted, so this isn’t due to a molt.) While observing my spider, it had a hard time hunting after some time for some reason. It appears to be a bit confused while exploring at times. I tried to add a hiding spot and something to climb on, but it seems to not like it. Unfortunately, I have to find an enclosure with edges now, so it will have a better idea of its surroundings and hunting.

For everyone saying top open enclosures are bad if you look the enclosure has a lip around the top which stops the spider attaching anything to the lid

Would I need a heat mat for the UK? The information on this is so mixed and confusing across the Internet. I really want a Regal but I work nights and really don't feel comfortable leaving a heat mat on while at work even with a thermostat. If the answers yes then I guess I'll have to miss out.

How big does this specific spider grow? I love jumping spiders. I only see the black and white ones in the garden usually. But they do strike me as pretty smart!
@aliyahpulido953
@aliyahpulido953 3 года назад
They ARE very intelligent and curious creatures! They usually grow to about fingernail-size, so pretty tiny for a pet :) While you can find them outdoors and keep those as pets, it might be better to purchase them from a website that specifically sells them as pets. I've found they usually cost around $20 USD. Different species have different markings, like bold jumping spiders (Phidippus audax), or regal jumping spiders (Phidippus regius). Those are the ones most common as pets, but there are others, like Phidippus putnami, etc. The benefits of purchasing instead of finding is that you'll know the exact species, how old the spider is since they're bred to be pets, they'll be more tame than a wild one, and they'll usually come sexed/you'll know if it's male or female. If you choose female, you'll also know she's not gravid, meaning carrying eggs she'll later lay and produce more spiderlings. Good luck!

Literally EVERY other guide for jumpers tell you not to use a top opening enclosure (I myself have used them though), not to have a water bowl because they can drown, and to have lots of cross ventilation, which I don’t see in there either. Guess you do you, but I don’t understand why you’re not following the researched advice from all the others?….
