Settle & Carlisle Circular at Carlisle 18 02 23 

Statesman Rail's "Settle & Carlisle Circular" performed an interesting railtour starting at Chester-le-Street in Co Durham, picking up at Durham, Darlington, Northallerton, Thirsk, York, Garforth and Leeds before taking the spectacular Settle & Carlisle line to Appleby for a brief stop before continuing down the Eden Valley.
The return route was via Haltwhistle, Hexham and the curve from Dunston to the East Coast Main Line to drop off passengers in the reverse order to the pick-ups.
The Tyne Valley cannot be accessed from the Eden Valley so a reversing manoeuvre was necessary at Carlisle.
