Hi Tim We seen you in Carlisle last Saturday as the Pullman arrived. We just got back to the car before the heavens opened up. We seen the train pass through Harrington station it was sunny but very windy. All the best. Malcolm and Sheila from Workington.
It looked nice and not so windy for flying. Ah well good video at ground level. The Midland Pullman power car was with the new West Highland Pullman a shorter set that Les saw and said to fit in the passing loops which are too short for a full HST. I was about to close PC and set off out for Tangmere on Monday but luckily saw her passing through York station an hour early. I should of stuck to my first plan of having some lunch in town and getting to the station early. Not often steam locomotives pass through Leeds
Very nice, I was at the drs open day yesterday. It was a very good day out. then went to the station to see some trains and then up to upperby aswell. that is not the midland pullman. This is the new 'West Highland pullman' on the test run!
It definitely says "Midland Pullman" on the power car! Glad you enjoyed your day at Kingmoor- I was supposed to be at the Ravenglass and Eskdale AGM but was stymied by Northern Rail cancelling three out of four morning trains on the coastal line.
What a fine video. It took me back to my days at Glenluce Primary School in the early 60s. From the upper playground I could see the rail traffic at Glenluce Station. To top that, there were Vulcan bombers flying from RAE West Freuch, practising bombing runs over Luce Bay. I even remember my mother being taken to Dunragit to catch the Glasgow train.
An enviable childhood - beautiful part of the world with steam trains AND Vulcan bombers. Not unlike my own, although in my case it was Gloster Javelins followed by Hawker Hunters and then - yes - eventually Avro Vulcans (RAF Middleton St George, now Teesside Airport). Best wishes.
Funny old weather - absolutely glorious in Eskdale yesterday, cold, wet and blustery here today. I really should have gone for that job in New Zealand!
Not laryngitis but intractable hiccups - which sounds minor but, as the NHS website will confirm, can even be fatal if not controlled. Last time it cost me eight days in hospital with the medics unable to explain it or cure it. Rather arty! - ah well, just goes to show, every cloud has a silver lining. Best wishes.
My that was some wild weather! I'm glad I went over to your native county where it was largely sunny although a tad windy. Wigton is surprisingly exposed - isn't every station in Northern Cumbria? All the same the Pullman looked good.
What a rain storm Good thing you were not out in that and very windy. I don't think the passengers would have much of a view this time. It turned out fine for filming at the new location so your gamble payed off.
Thanks Colin. Another saga yesterday - set out for the AGM of La'al Ratty at Ravenglass but, thanks to Northern cancelling three out of four successive trains, didn't make it. Will tell you all next time we meet.
@@schoolshorts Aww that's not good One day when you really wanted to get there with no problems. Just got home from Leeds. A bit of a boo boo by me there.
Great Locomotive and good video. Me and my Wife were passengers on the train and really enjoyed the experience. We were on the last carriage next to the Diesel engine that was being hauled right next to where you were filming but unfortunately didn't see ourselves disembarking as that part of vid was cut short. I know its a vid for train enthusiasts but if you got any more footage that would be great and a donation to your favourite train charity would be forthcoming. Still great footage tho.
I've had a look at the recorded footage but there's almost nothing that wasn't included in that part of the video. Sorry to disappoint. Glad you enjoyed the day - and the video! Best wishes.
@@schoolshorts Thank you so much for checking your footage. Your prompt reply and effort is much appreciated. Your a Scholar and a Gentleman. Best Regards. Graeme Gaunt.
Superb train. I liked the beautifully painted carriages in early BR colours, like my Triang trains. I wish that the trains in the Southern Region these days would all be painted SR shining green, instead of the gross unserious company colours.
Hi Tim. In those instances where a steam hauled train arrives with a diesel ‘in tow’, has the diesel been involved in forward propulsion, or is it simply ‘free wheeling’?
The diesel is officially there to provide electrical power for modern air-conditioned coaching stock, catering equipment etc - but it's not unknown for some assistance to be provided in case of emergency.
Great!! I’m glad you were able to go to Carlisle for this event!! A4 locomotives are fine machines and are able to do a wonderful job of hauling a train.
Glad you felt well enough to get out. The mystery train was empty stock Polmadie to Preston looking on Railcam data booked through 4 but went through 3. Also unusual to see a mail trains at that time which looks like a new working maybe because the ECML one no longer runs. Sir Nigel looking as good as ever.
Thanks for the information Colin. Two mail trains in one session - I usually go for weeks without seeing a single one. Sir Nigel - magnificent - as always!
Look at all those logs going to be turned in to electricity instead of good old Yorkshire coal!!!!!! Fraction of the thermal efficiency of old "King Coal"
Living in Australia I love our 3801 however the A4 Pacific just has to be the most beautiful steam engine on the tracks today. Perfect colour combination with those Pullmans too. I have the 70th anniversary model of the Mallard which I believe no longer runs but this one is right up there in that paint scheme. Thanks for posting this amazing video.
Very good action at Carlisle for that visit. Appleby was very busy when Sir Nigel came in for its water stop. Made my day interesting, to say the least, when it came flying past later on.
Wow diesels look cool in BR lined black. If only someone thought of that earlier, we could have traded it off against running all steamers in pre nationalisation regional colours.
Greetings Tim, I hope you will soon be better and able to voice video. My you have been busy painting the gates at Holywood . Look miles better than last time I saw them. Take care
Thank you David.. I would have been very happy to have painted them if only they'd let me, but you know what it's like. Even on La'al Ratty, where I'm a member, I wouldn't be allowed to touch anything - even pick up litter - without first undergoing full training! Best wishes.
Hope you are well soon Tim The fresh air would be better than being indoors too long. My last trip to York was a bit like that. No sooner had I got a cup of tea then the class 33's came 50 mins early Glad I did not sit indoors rather than a seat on the platform
Thanks Colin. Seeing the doctor later this afternoon so hopefully will manage the two upcoming days at Carlisle - one involving a Cumbrian Coast charter. Let's wait and see!
