Watching your video is like déjà vu. We camped at Big Shoals our second night. We were the only people there, but we have hammock tents and put them right by the river at the spot below where you left your canoe. The water was much deeper and the shoals were beautiful.
Yea for Tater's Tuesday! Enjoying the back and forth repartee, as always. The river really looks cool and dark. Nifty. Just as glad you did not try to run those rapids! Maybe with a kayak, but not a canoe. Paddle on! Tortoise
Love that upper section you’ve been on. I’ve camped at both the boat ramp you stopped at, and that portage spot on the Florida Trail. I can’t believe an outfitter was telling you you’d be dragging your boat. Water levels are low but they aren’t nearly THAT low. Have a good time going through White Springs and the river camps!
Stay warm tonight! 🥶 Maybe try some thicker wool blend socks for your freezing feet? I have super thick ones, off brand ordered from Amazon. I use them with my hiking boots and wellies (rubber/rain boots), love how warm they keep my feet. Loving the Suwannee paddle. Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
While on the river, look out for bubbling along the sides of the river, which usually indicates a natural spring and will be clear along the bottom. But being cold, you probably don't want to go swimming. On cold feet, I read some research papers on covid causing some blood circulation issues but seems to only occur in a small percentage of people. Be safe out there.
The balance of the canoe on the shoulders without thwart pads can be a challenging, however it can be done and I’ve done 320rods a few times that way. Worse when the mosquitoes are bad. But love ever canoe trip I’ve done.
Cold feet could indicate poor circulation. Be careful. Do you lash your gear into the canoe? Looked like a wrecked building above the wrecked boat. I liked you comment about portaging. Reminded me of a CBC reality show 20+ years ago about men recreating the boat trip of fur traders in Canada. It involved a very long portage. Merry Christmas. Good Luck, Rick
Nice to see you in a swamp again. We always put our canoes upside down at the campsite, and typically left a lot of the gear under the canoes where it would be dry and not in the tent. For your earphone issue, there is a Lightning-earphone short-tail adapter (dongle?) you could use then you are stressing the adapter, not the Lightning port.
I actually tried that on the CDT because my lightning port started to fritz. Unfortunatly I think it makes the issue worse since the dongle is heavy and points up in the air pulling on the port
Eating PB straight from the jar with a spoon, and Taters acts like there is something weird about that. What was the average daytime air temp? Glad the water has been deeper than the guide led on.
Very nice Tuesday. Thanks Jen...and um...Matt. If you like paddling trips there are a few here in the ADKs. Mostly clear clean trout waters. Sorry I know you prefer black water with corpses.
