*This is my second set of weight discs and I also have the 2 ounce and **enjoyable.fishing** recommend they work great and fit into the tackle box perfectly. the quality is there so I'm happy with them.*
Thanks PK! I've been Salmon and Steelhead fishing for decades her in Gold Beach, but it's been pretty slow (low and clear) and I HAFTA fish so gonna try surf perching. Your video makes it easy to understand.
Thanks for the video. I have attempted to tie this rig before and was tying the dropper loops wrong causing the line to kink and break. Now I can have confidence in my rig! Thank you!
Hey PK, I'm getting ready to go surf perch fishing for the first time and just got done getting our poles rigged up. Thanks to YOU, I'm almost confident in keeping most of my gear! 😉 Sunday morning in Lincoln City will be life-changing if I/we have a fun time and catch a lot of tasty morsels! 😁🍻 Thanks again for all of your videos and easy-to-follow instructions! #TightLines
Always appreciate the tutorial videos, PK. Thanks! I tend to change weights if the conditions get too rough so i've a third loop at the bottom for easy switching, and I've grown real fond of tactical clips on my leader to allow quick changing of different "secondary leaders" that I've already tied in case I want to size up/down the hooks, but otherwise your setup is pretty much the exact rig I use-- in fact I probably learned how to tie it from one of your previous videos haha! Had no problem hooking up with it this morning at the beach in SF either. Thank you again for taking the time to do these.
Thanks for the vid. I am going to try this out next time I am on the water. Just a tip for everyone to save on fishing line when practicing tying knots I always use dental floss.
I like how you use a piece of paper and a marker to draw out the demonstration. I personally prefer some type of loop knot at the end, like a perfection loop, so that I can easily swap out sinkers without cutting the line. By using a loop, you can easily tie on bank sinkers, whereas you might have a hard time hooking a big bank sinker to a snap swivel. If the loop is big enough, you can even attach sputnik sinkers. Also, I prefer to terminate my main line (braid) with a Tactical Angler's Clip. On all of my pre-made fishing rigs, the top of the line has a barrel swivel. I simply hook the Tactical Angler's Clip to the barrel swivel and I'm ready to fish. I can easily swap out different fishing setups without any line cutting and retying using this method. If I had a bead and a swivel before the Tactical Angler's Clip, I can easily convert the setup to a slider by connecting a sinker to the swivel.
I love the high/low rig. In freshwater. I like to rig it on my unltralight's mainline(8 lb mono) and attach the weight via surgeon's loop, because it allows me to switch up very easily. I could start with a dropshot, tie another dropper loop to switch to the high/low rig, and if that doesn't work, cut off the far dropper loop, move the weight to the near dropper loop, then put a trebble/doughtbait hook on the surgeon's loop.
Thanks for posting. I copied your rig to the letter but I cannot seem to pinch the leader enough to pass through the hook eye. You did it so easily. Can you share the hook brand, size you are using? Thanks
I've never surf fished in Winchester bay, but I'd imagine it'd be good. Horsfall Beach is somewhat close to there too, in Coos Bay (right turn before the 101 bridge going south bound).
PK Thank you, I have a ten foot Lamiglas surf and jetty rod that’s been sitting in my closet for years now never used. Med-Hvy 3-8 oz weights 17-40 line. The only thing that I’m worried about is it’s a casting rod. All the videos I’ve seen, they use spinning reels. Do you think I could make this work for surf perch? I have a reel somewhere. Thanks
It’s always better to go from braid Alberto knot to a monofilament liter Not using a swivel does twist the line at times But you can feel the action and fish more When not using a swivel
PK! Been lurking your videos for a long time. This one was very helpful. Going to the coast from home in Bend and want to try some surf fishing. I don't have any braid, but have some really heavy mono I can use. Should I bite the bullet and get braid or save a little and use my mono? Thanks for the videos! Christian
Not sure what you mean by "really heavy mono". Is it like 30# test? Anyhow, using mono is fine, anything in the 8-12# test should work. I would try that out first and see if you like it, and if you're considering about doing a lot more surf fishing after this trip, I think investing in braid is a good idea. good luck.
May I weigh in I would prefer to use a finder (slider) so the fish is LESS likely to feel the weight of the sinker could you please tell me how and where and why it would be better to use the rig you prefer, given that one issue please educate me thank you
Steve Tautog I don’t think the fish feel the weight in this rig at all, because the hooks are above the weight. So they are pulling on your mainline first. Very responsive feedback on the strike.
Thank you for the reply ok so I am glad to learn that you believe that you feel the fish before they feel the weight I will definitely give this rig a try the advantage to you rig is that the whole thing stays together as one, vs the fish finder which can let the weight drift far from the bait which can be less desirable thanks again
I tie a double uni with this rig, so I don't need the swivel. the double uni goes through my guides, which is important in this rig because of the long leader - about 8-9 foot. you can use a swivel too of course, it's optional.
Using a swivel restricts the leader length as it can’t pass through the guides. On a 10’ rod, you’d only have maybe 6’ of leader, and also that it as far down as you could reel, and cast with.
hi PK, have always enjoyed your videos and you ability to catch fish is awsome.... great tutorial. thanks.. Q. is this a sit and wait set up or a retrieving kind.. thanks.
good shit my dude, real good info videos on youre channel. do moee broad fishing though. try some curly tails in the surf maybe, or a challege vid, for more views. not many bank/beach fisher man out there and alot of the info gets mis construded, reach out to the kids and get the views
Im new to fishing and im curious. whats the difference between microfilament and braided line? why use a 30lb braided line and as your main and a 20lb microfilament as your liter?
I think you meant *monofilament* line vs. braid? I use a leader because the braid is too visible, the monofilament leader line is less visible under water and thus doesn't spook the fish as much.
Why a leader for perch n bottom fish?Just run your braid mainline straight through. There not picky ive caught thousands of perch and bottom fish like that..i know you very experienced no disrespect...just try it it makes no difference.
