Tom thanks for posting these videos. Have been thinking about getting the same setup for some time now. Your enthusiasm may have sealed the deal for me. Overall are you happy with it and does it taste as good as it looks?
Hey sorry for not replying. I didnt get a notification about any of these comments and I have not really ever posted a youtube video before. I just posted a new one yesterday showing me cleaning the lines. I love it as do my wife and two oldest boys. The feeling of pouring it and watching it settle never gets old. No regrets whatsoever. Tastes as good as it looks absolutely. Only thing I would try to improve on if I could is find a kegerator that allowed for slightly warmer temperatures. I have it on the warmest setting but its still pretty cold. That is one of the big differences I see between Guinness here in the states and over in Ireland where the temperature of the beer is not as cold. I think it makes it creamier.
Just seeing this reply now - my fault for never checking my account. How is it going? Let me know if I can help with any questions. I have learned a bit since getting it but still run into the occasional issues with too much head on it. Curious what you pay for a keg. I live in Connecticut and pay roughly $270 for a 1/2 barrel. plus a $30 deposit. the small gas bottles I get are around $25 each time I get them.
I believe the kegerator came with that piece. I actually dont use it any more though. I initially had the gas tank in the holder on the back of the kegerator with the line coming through the hole that you mentioned. Then when we were having some head issues I read a bunch of stuff online and someone mentioned having the gas and beer the same temperature so I now just have the gas inside the kegerator on the little shelf on the back. It has worked out fine.
