I have a slim paperback of "Sebastopol Sketches" perhaps including this story. I remember Tolstoy was quite keen to join his brother "fighting" in Sebastopol, but after a large battle with some 20,000 casualties, the "gallantry" of war left him, and he became a Pacifist. Don't all wars leave eternal scars, but yet the leaders send us off against THEIR enemy.
The ravages of war how do you. Put in words imagines of what your eyes behold or the imprint in your mind and most of all how do you rationalize them with the value of human life except dose the words greed power money but self defense is obtained at a cost 🙏
