I cite my sources and they may differ than other people's accounts, so I don't guarantee the actual accuracy of my videos.
Seven Mary Three
The LA Times would write about the band Seven Mary Three “The members of rock band Seven Mary Three belong to a minority of young rockers: those willing to acknowledge that the road to commercial success is paved with compromise.” It’s not often that rock n roll bands embrace those kinds of labels.
I was listening to the bonfire on sirius xm. Those guys have been given me a lot of shoutouts over the past year and i’m so grateful for it. WHen you’re a youtuber it feels very insular and small so I honestly have a hard time coming to terms that people even watch my videos. One of the episodes of the bonfire i listened to had them discussing the 90’s era band seven mary three. And usually when I come across a band i had forgotten about, the first thing i usually do is go through my request form. There were several people who have already requested seven mary three. By the way guys if you want to submit ideas for me to do episodes on use the link in the description box below. I go through it every week and TSo let’s get to it today. Whatever happended to the band seven mary three who were best known for the mid 90’s hit song ‘Cumbersome’
Seven Mary Three formed in 1992 when two college students with the same first name Jason met midway through their junior year while attending College of William & Mary in Virginia. Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Jason Ross and lead guitarist Jason Pollack. Both men were born in Kansas with Pollack moving to Virginia later on and having a tv-less childhood telling deseret news I listened to all my parents' classic rock albums, the radio; really anything that sounded melodic and good. I also went to see a lot of local folkie mountain music. I learned to play at college and realized this is what I wanted to do. When I met Jason and heard him sing, I really fell into it.
Ross and Pollack would both pursue degrees in the arts. By this point in time both men hadn’t been playing guitar for very long with Ross telling earofnewt “Jason started playing when he was a sophomore in college,” “so I guess he’s into his fourth year playing now. I had a dusty old guitar sitting in the closet, and I pretty much learned everything from him, so neither one of us has been playing very long.” For his English degree Ross was able to get half of his college credit by writing short stories and poetry, which inspired a lot of the lyrical content on Seven Mary Three’s debut record according to earofnewt.
Both Jason’s woud bond over their love of the 80’s TV show Chips and Gabrielle Garcia Marquez Novels. The duo began writing songs, but Ross was nervous about getting on stage and performing in front of people telling Rolling Stone "I’d always kind of wanted to perform, but I was too much of a coward to get onstage," "Jason was able to push me into it." Within several months of writing their first song, the pair performed as an acoustic duo before adding Bassist Casey Daniel and drummer Giti Khalsa and began playing local coffee shops and clubs and doing their best to avoid the highly lucrat

My brother's band opened for those guys like 10-15 years ago in a tiny dive bar, and they were still fucking amazing. I'd seen them the year prior at huge ampitheater show where they opened for Gin Blossoms, because I got cheap tickets, but their album American Standard was a classic from start to finish. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes their radio hits, and hasn't given it a listen.

I'm surprised there's no mention of "Lucky" from Rock Crown. This played on our local alternative station in the mid 90's. That entire album is so damn solid. The last song called "Oven" is just about the perfect way to end an album. It answers the question from the track "Time's like these". Read up about Sylvia Plath. There was a lot of hurt and healing in that album.

Seven Mary Three is another band that got screwed by their record companies. Much like Stone Temple Pilots early in their career, 7M3 were labeled as Grunge wannabes, which limited the ability of critics and fans alike to see them for the incredibly unique and talented band that they were. "American Standard" is one of my favorite albums, and I certainly believe that "Rock Crown" does not get the respect that it deserves. Unlike STP, Seven Mary Three were never able to break free of the Grunge label, mostly due to a lack of proper marketing by the record companies. It is unfortunate that a lot of people missed out on a band that had a lot to offer. I don't think they were even finished evolving their sound by the time that their careers ended. I often wonder what they could have become. They were signed too early, and just became a victim of their own success.

It's awesome how 7M3, similar to Collective Soul's situation, got their initial boost with a rough cut of what would become their debut single. Didn't know that the band, as well as Juliana Hatfield, were on Mammoth Records early on. Another great early 90s band on that same label is Vanilla Trainwreck, who have three great albums with similar melodic sounds. Indie labels always seemed to have cool, unique approaches for how they work with their bands!

The question we SHOULD be asking is what happened to Seven Mary One and Two!

What's with the band pictures where they're frowning while looking into the camera? I don't get it.

Nobody was going to outshine the golden boys/Nirvana. Too many great bands went unnoticed.

By definition the word "cumbersome" means to "hard to handle". When i started to listen to listen too seven mary three, i to look this up because i didint know what the word meant.. and all admit that. I like that all there songs are poetic and have euphomisms and are kinda esoteric it makes you want to listen to them more.

I saw them once at a really small venue, they were pretty good but I was surprised they were at such a small place. I guess it was because they only had a couple "hits" and it was a few years past their commercial peak. But I also like to karaoke their songs, because fat necking is never gonna die.

They are a casualty of the cruel music business. The music was always good, but didn't get radio play and hype, so we're relegated to playing bars.

I saw these guys play a free concert in downtown Cincinnati, actually it was one song and then the police came out in riot gear and started pepper spraying everyone
