I agree, I instantly loved her video and I'm a seasoned traveller. I loved the left-handed tip about the carry on luggage. I didn't knownthat and I'm a lefty! Cool ❤👍🏽
I need this because I'm 14 and I'm going to travel by myself from Las Vegas to Colorado and I'm scared because when I see airports, they seem so complex 😭
You will do great because you will read signs and your ticket and download the airline's app. And don't be in a hurry. Ask questions. Can't wait to hear. Thank you for watching!
Same!!! I’m going for the first on a plane not to mention by myself to a whole different state and it seems complicated to find your gate or where to put ur stuff 😖
TravelTipsbyLaurie I’m 16 and I’m flying from Houston to LA with my adult sister and I don’t have an ID. What exactly do I need as far as papers and consent forms ?
Awesome tips!!! Especially about having your documents ready. If I may, here's a couple more tips. ALWAYS go to the bathroom before boarding. Even if you don't have to go, try. Airplane lavatories are claustrophobic and not always clean. Also, don't assume that smaller airports will have faster security. For example, our home airport is BNA (Nashville) which is a medium sized airport and even way early in the morning, security is backed up. On the other hand, for example, LAS (Las Vegas) early in the morning has super fast security and you would think it would take forever to get through, but it doesn't. Always stick to the 2 hour arrival before your flight rule. It's worth sitting around at the gate doing nothing than it is rushing and missing your flight.
Hi, can you tell me about Las Vegas airport? I've never been to LV before and I was just wondering how big it is? I have back pain and standing for long periods and walking for long distances are a problem for me. Some airports are very large. Also now that there is Legal Marijuana does it take longer with security checks?
I absolutely agree with you about arriving 2 hours early,we did when we flew for the first time,it was alot less stressful because we didn't know what to expect
Hi, Leslie, I hope I catch you. I forgot to say that you can have nothing in your pockets while you go through security. Have a wonderful flight and visit! You will be so proud of yourself.
Leslie-Ann Diaz this is my friends user name...just San....solo anywho I'm a girl to and would love to go to Greece someday is love to know how was it??
I’m flying for the first time by myself in three months and it finally hit me so I started getting anxious. Having watched this video it did help me calm down and I will definitely be watching more to help educate myself on what to do! Loved it!❤
I know this is an old video, but watching this video (all your videos) makes me feel less stressed and more relaxed, you’re like the mom for travel and I love you!! Best videos eva!
Your my favorite Travel Vlog NO MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND I can listen to your video properly and you explain it well without the silly face expressions that other video's do and I learn alot from you thank you keep up the good work 👍👏
I wanted to thank you for all of your amazing videos. I watched a lot as I prepared for my very first flight. You have taught me so much. Your videos made the process so much easier and took A LOT of the nerves away. I felt like a pro! From packing, getting through TSA, dos and don't, how things happen... Thank you so much!! I will be mentioning you in my next video to show my appreciation!!! You ROCK!!!
Hey Laurie! Tip #82. I took my two young grands on a plane several years ago. Neither one chew gum. IKR? Ha. I made a small bag for each filled with caramels. Neither one had ear popping issues. I chose caramels for obvious reasons. So glad that worked!
This video was very helpful! Taking my 1st plane tried in September and I’m very nervous but excited as well! Using these tips to help me prepare for my trip!!!
Thank you so much for this video! My trips through TSA were smooth with no hassle. It was my first time on a plane last week and this video helped me feel like a pro. You are absolutely adorable Laurie
My favorite tip: Wear two pairs of socks to the airport. Good/new socks close to your skin. Very, very, old socks over the good ones. After Security . . . and walking on airport floor . . . toss old socks and put shoes back on over good socks!!
I will be flying for the first time to Europe in October. These videos are SUPER helpful for me to prepare. I'm an over-thinker anyway and love to plan in advance to be efficient AND to know what I'm getting myself into. The more you know!
I would really discourage people from wearing boots or any type of heavy shoe in the airport. Due to one unfortunate event, I had to stand for 4 hours wearing the shoes that I arrived in. Fortunately, they were a new pair of Sketchers that I highly recommend. There was much running through the airport also. I would advise people to wear their best athletic shoe in anticipation of unplanned activity.
Especially if your getting a connecting flight at DFW or Laguardia. It seems they purposefully put the connecting flights' gates at least a half mile apart. I remember setting the world's record for the mile at DFW airport when I only had ten minutes to get to my gate, and they WILL not let you on once that plane door closes. Hint: practice your running skills and wear comfortable shoes..
My friend travels a lot and she wanted to bring a home grown cucumber to show her grandmother and she got stopped because they staff thought it was a nuclear weapon!! 😂
Thank you Laurie! I have flown several times with my family but never alone. I am taking a trip soon and I have to take a short flight from Los Angeles to Sacramento CA. I am totally freaked out because I am afraid I wont know where to find ticket counter, TSA line, my boarding gate or where to find my luggage once I get off the plane. I have never had to pay attention to these details. I feel like an idiot! Also, I am nervous about not having a ticket printed and trying to screen shot it! Your video has been very helpful. I think I need to watch it again to ease my anxiety.
Leslie, you are going to do great because you are not too scared to ask for help. Will you check a suitcase or use a carryon suitcase? If you check one, you have to stand in line but can talk to the ticketing agent for your airline. If you want, you could go to your airline's ticket counter; they usually have representatives in the line helping answer questions. Start by saying that you're nervous and want to walk through where to go with her. That may help. If you check in online, you will then be emailed a boarding pass. That's what I take a pic of just in case I can't get to my email. But there's an option most likely to print your boarding pass from home. When you go through security, you'll see those huge tvs that will tell you what gate you're at. When you get to your gate, you can ask questions too. Good luck and remember you will never see those people again so don't be in a hurry.
Laurie you are an angel! Thank you for taking the time to reply. I got on the plane without having a nervous breakdown. Before I even entered the airport I was able to check in my luggage and the attendant even printed out my boarding pass ( I wish I had given him a tip.) My daughter showed me around so I would know just what to do next time I fly alone too
Great video Laurie! Since I am disabled and need a wheelchair I always tell people to have $5 and $1 bills on them in an easily accessible place to tip the wheelchair folks.
Thank you. I am a adrenaline junkie where I love being in control of my stupid decisions. I'm getting on a plane next week for the first time and am scared shitless (not being in control) your tips have helped alot. Much love.
I'm so glad you feel helped! You will be so proud of yourself because you have researched. Now take your time and read signs, and you will be fine! Thank you for watching!
Hi, I’m afraid of having a panic attack while in the air, (never have while in the air a few times), but just the thought of it happening is driving me nuts...going on a cruise in a few weeks, what are your suggestions,
You could download the airline's app, and I forgot to say you cannot have anything in your pockets when you walk through security. You'll do so great! Thank you for watching.
Hi there, I just wanted to say, all of your videos have been so helpful! I'll be flying for the first time since I was a kid this week so it is all new to me. The way you explain everything is so clear and concise. Thank you so much for your help!
Just found your videos and this one started playing so i kept listening..i have traveled a lot and i see the flustered, confused and even scared travelers so to have someone explain this step by step is amazing. People don't understand that some people have NEVER traveled and this will help tremendously. Everyone has a first time and i can say this will help a lot of people. You are great! :)
The more you explain in detail the better I'm flying for the first time in a couple weeks to visit my daughter and all my anxiety is based on arriving at the airport and how things need to be packed etc. So please every detail is helping me 😊
17 and first time going on a plane alone and I’ve been binging a bunch of these videos so I know what I need to do. Lots of anxiety especially since I’m going through Orlando international so it’s a big airport 😓😓
Thank you for watching! I would download your airline's app but also the orlando airport app so you can see the map and how to get to your next gate. But you can also ask an employee when you get off of the plane. What a great experience! Live it up!
I just wanted to thank you for sharing all this awesome information!! I am going on my 1st flight in August. I was super nervous (still am, a little) I've been binge watching your videos. Listening to you, I feel more prepared and I'm not as scared. Thank you ! You totally rock!!
You are such a lovely, helpful lady. My name is Jolien. I'm from Belgium. I'm not sure how much our security rules differ but I do feel like I have more insight now on what's about to happen if I go on a plane for the first time and that's really great. I don't think that my friend who wants to travel with me would've thought to warn me about the stress level of the security guards and the passengers but to me that's very important information because I'm autistic and I need to do what I can to avoid having a meltdown. I do believe I have control in this. It's all in my head. It is important for me to create the best understanding in my head and to know why certain things are happening such as the people expressing frustration to me: It is of utmost importance that I keep in mind that it's not personal. Because if I go in that direction of thinking that's where the anxiety will kick in and that's where it'll only get worse for me and probably for the people around me as well, because I can't function if I get an anxiety attack. I will collapse in tears and not be able to hear anyone or anything but the chaos in my head and the probability of people at the airport understanding and respecting me and my situation is very low. I will have to warn my friend that it can happen and if it happens, I'm terribly sorry but I have to find somewhere as peaceful and quiet as possible to come down fro the anxiety attack and collect myself. But I can avoid that. I need to reason why negative things will happen. Why the security guards and passengers will express frustration. If nobody can tell me otherwise, I will reason that the airport is a busy place for travelers to get off on the airplane. I will reason that the people working at the airport will never be able to manage the amount of passengers thoroughly enough to make it a nice, relaxing experience because the crowd is too big. I will also reason that it's not supposed to be a nice, relaxing experience. I will reason that the nice, relaxing experience is supposed to be at my destination so that will motivate me to get through the noise and the crowds. I will reason that the only thing that I have to pay attention to is staying the course. Keep up with my friend, cut through the noise and the crowd, explain to my friend that I'm experiencing over-stimulation and that I want her to speak up right into my ear to get her message across, maybe tell the same thing to the security guards.. and just endure it. I have to endure it. I have to keep in mind that it's not personal. I have to keep in mind that it'll pass. Very important. I need practical readiness, mental readiness and motivation to get me through it. And that is it.
Thank you for these videos! I'm 25 and I've never flown before, im flying domestic to Chicago soon and your videos are helping calm my anxiety about what I need to do with my luggage
I need this cause I’m planning on flying to Japan from California in the future, and my biggest fear is just that it’s my first flight. My mind thinks in extremes when I get nervous, so if there’s any turbulence, I immediately think that the plane is going down. And I know I’m safer flying in a plane than driving a car, but I just can’t get over the thought of “what if the flight I’m on is that one flight that disappears or crashes”. Any advice to help me keep calm during any flight?
I interviewed a pilot in a video that my help. I forgot to say to take everything out of your pockets in security and download the airline's app to watch movies in the air. Thanks for watching! bit.ly/Tips4FearofFlying
One word...dramamine..im with you im headed to panama in a month..this will help with dizziness and wanting to puke..first time flyer here and my anxiety is high
Thanks, I really needed this. I have ADHD and an anxiety disorder and I'm going on my first flight as well as my first international flight this summer from NY to South africa and i'm super nervous but this video made things so much easier
I'm so glad. Hope it goes smoothly! I forgot to say you will have to take everything out of your pockets to walk through security. Thanks for watching!
Hi. I have not flown in over 15 years. I'm anxious. It's comforting to know that it's obviously a very normal feeling to have. Your direct explanation of pretty much everything I will encounter has helped a lot. My one question is will my daily purse ( medium sized) be allowed into my back pack or is it considered another bag? Do I have to empty my purse and carry it as luggage and load my empty purse at my destination? All my concerns will then be addressed. I'm even going to order that easy to wear top u wore. lol Thank u In Advance!
Onnica, your purse can go in your backpack. I pull mine out when I get inside the airplane or at my destination. Thank you for watching. You will do great. In the US, you cannot have anything in your pockets when you walk through security FYI.
thank you so much for this video, I had so much anxiety about what I should do on my first time flying. Now I feel more relaxed and feel more informed!
Hi! I did forget to say to take everything out of your pockets and to download your airline's app. Sometimes the entertainment system is on your phone and sometimes it's on a screen in the chair. Hope it goes well! Thanks for watching!
Hi Laurie, Thank you so much for all your information! It has been extremely helpful to me and Hubby,as we prepare for our very first international flight! ( My first time in a plane since I was a newborn 👶🏽) ! I gained important pertinent information from you and greatly appreciate it!! 😊❤️🙏🏽
Oh, y'all are going to have such a great time! I forgot to mention that you cannot have anything in your pockets when you walk through the scanner. Have such a fun and cozy time with your best guy! Thank you for watching!
Can you use an underseat suitcase as a personal bag? I have a bad back and do carry on only. So if I stow a carry on in the bins can i also use an underseat suitcase it if fits the personal bag dimensions?
You are so awesome! It's been a long time since I've flown and I am handicapped! My hubby will be with me and we have TSA Pre Check but I still feel nervous going through TSA…your videos are so reassuring and thank you so much for them!
I could HUG you right now. At my older age, I didn't know none of this. I now have to learn to find a trusted web site to book a site. I don't care that your baby stepping what your saying. THANK YOU.
I’ve flown a lot, but was watching Incase I had missed something. Wonderful tips, I’m going to the Grand Canyon in October and Japan next year in April. Do you have a video on flying international? I’ve never been through customs.
Sandy, I think the GC should be the #1 Natural Wonder! It's beautiful. I have no videos except a long haul flight one. I know you cannot bring some food back here from Japan. Thank you for watching!
One thing you need to keep in mind about going through customs is, make sure you have the form and all necessary paperwork on hand and filled out properly.
I watched this video 5 times in September of 2019 before I left on my solo flight from LAX to Mumbai, India. It was my second time on a plane and the first time by myself. It helped me so much. When my husband dropped me off at the airport, I took a deep breath and walked inside and I can honestly tell youI had no worries or fears. I breezed through TSA found my gate and had enough time to buy an iced tea and some snacks. It all felt like second nature to me. Thank you Laurie
Thank you. Going to india for a month in one week. I have been looking and reading alot for weeks. My son is autistic so flying with him will be interesting
Stephanie, thank you for watching. You may want to call the airline and request a certain seat or ask their opinion based on your son's needs. Sometimes they will let you board before everyone, etc. Hope everything is smooth and you have a wonderful trip. Peace to you! Let me know if there's something else you're worried about.
Thank you so much!! My fiancé are fly from Wisconsin to Florida this Friday!...I haven’t flown in 10 years (A LOT HAS CHANGED) and my fiancé has never flown...he’s crazy nervous! He never gets nervous!...any tips to help calm us down on the flight???
I would tell the flight attendant as you walk on the plane and see if y'all can talk to the pilot. Remember, they do not want to fly unless it is safe as well. I would recommend not drinking alot of coffee before; coffee is fine to drink just not a ton so he doesn't have to go to the restroom very often. I forgot to say that you will need to take everything out of your pockets to walk through the security section. Tsa has a RU-vid and blog fyi. Have so much fun! Thank you for watching!
Gonna be going to see my bf in a month I'm 22 but terrified this is my first time flying I have a question the trip will be about 7 hours and it says the plane is stopping in Detroit and I have to get on another plane do I have to do all of that again? Going threw secretary check again?
You do not since the flights are all in America. I would download the airline's app and when you land, check flight status and it'll tell you what gate it's parked at. Or you can check the monitors. If it's a tight connection (less than an hour) that'll help speed you up. Thanks for watching!
Great suggestions here!! but I have a concern about you wearing leggings on the airplane with half legs uncover. Not a good choice here. Do you know that sometimes spider, or other kind of insects on a not good maintenance plane , could crawl in your legs and you could risk yourself of getting a bite and as a consequence, having a leg Infection , if not taking care of it properly .? It’s always a good safe suggestion to wear long pants on the plane and long socks for protection. My humble opinion here. I enjoy your recommendations very much. Thank you.
your videos have been beyond helpful! i’m traveling from georgia to california on july 31st & i’ve been so nervous about everything now i feel like a pro just from watching your videos ! now i can fly comfortably & feel secure knowing you have taught me all the do’s & dont’s ! thank you !
Hi! I forgot to say to take everything out of your pockets and download the airline's app so you can watch movies on some airlines up in the air. Thank you for watching.
Thanks so much for this video! I am traveling for the first time in several years tomorrow and this refresher is super helpful. My hubby told me I’m supposed to put my cell phone in the bin outside of my small carry-on at security. I am flying out of O’Hare airport in Chicago.
Laura, thanks for watching! When I was in San Fran and Houston last week cell phones didn't have to come out. They'll be yelling it if they need to come out. Only ipads and laptops had to come out. But they can change anytime! I forgot to say that nothing can be in your pockets through security.
LauriePOP Yes, you are correct, I was able to leave my cell phone in my carry-on tote bag. However, I flunked going through security at O’Hare. I had nothing on me at all and did not pass the body scanner test and I had to have a pat down. My tote bag was also pulled and inspected. The second time they put it through it was fine. None of this phased me and I took it in stride. Monday I fly out of Portland back to Chicago, so it will be interesting to see how security goes on this end. I can’t wait to watch more of your videos! Thanks for doing them, they are so helpful!
Thank you so much for this video. I just flew by myself for the first time at the ripe age of 25. This video was PERFECT for guiding someone through the airport process! I now have an annoyance at people who don’t move on to the benches to get re-organized after going through the TSA scan. Haha!
I am 16 and I am flying from New Mexico to Michigan. This is my first time flying on an airplane and I will be traveling alone. Hopefully all goes well. But, I am excited!!
Have a wonderful time! You may want to download the airline's app and I forgot to say that everything needs to be out of your pockets as you walk through security. Thank you for watching
My first time flying to Hong Kong to go to Disneyland was terrifying but when I grew (I'm 12 now) I literally think I'm in a car, in a highway, speeding.
My biggest worry is screaming kicking kids. I wish people besides me would contact the airlines and suggest childfree flights and or sections. There's a demand for it but unless they hear from enough people then nothing will be done and flights will be more stressful than necessary. Air Asia has quiet zones and Malaysia bans kids from first class.
That is so painful to listen to screaming the whole flight. Wow about Air Asia! May I suggest really good ear covering headphones? I like these: amzn.to/2KPMJWb or these: amzn.to/2vIb0c6 (but these I don't know about their quality).
Say if someone has to go through multiple flights to get to their destination. After the first flight, what are the steps to getting to that second flight? Is it the same?
Hi, Anna. You just look at a big tv screen when you get off of your plane to see where it's parked at. No going through security unless you're fixing to go international. I would download your airline app and when you get to your first stop, type in your flight # to see where it is boarding at. Have fun!
I'm 24 (will be 25 when I fly) living in Missouri and I'm going to a friend's wedding in Florida in October. I've only ever been inside an airport once and that was when I took my gf to get on her plane back to her house. I didn't go any farther than just the commons area (or whatever it's called), so I never went through security. Hopefully by then I'll be more prepared for what happens.
I’m flying to NYC for the very first time and I’ll be by myself and to be honest…I’m a little terrified. I have generalized anxiety disorder and the thought of going through an airport by myself is absolutely terrifying to me. This was so so helpful. Thank you❤️
Sorry for the delayed response. How did it go? Maybe arriving super early will help. You're smart and can read the signs, read your ticket, and listen to the employees. That will help.
Nevaeh Vincent , so exciting! What a wonderful first flight to be taking! Walt Disney world is so awesome with the Magical express bus line picking you up at the airport , if your are staying at WDW resort. Hope you enjoyed her wonderful presentation of the airport!
I’m going to San Francisco in 3 days from Denver International. I am so nervous because Denver has one of the biggest airports in the country, I am most nervous about going through security, I don’t want to mess up! This video helped me!
Is the container and 3.04 ounce rule only apply to only carry on bags or bags you check in as well? Apologies I'm in a position where I cannot hear this video clearly
I’m flying from ATL to San Diego I’ve been to Cali multiple times but this is my first time flying , this video somewhat helps me breathe better, And feel better .
Wow I feel way better watching this I’m about to take a plane from California to Washington DC alone for the first time I’m 21 years old I am excited and happy to let you know your video is extremely informative and this is the first and only video I feel the need to watch to be prepared to take an airplane for the first time I appreciate you and the time you spent making this and editing this video and especially your little airport scene that was adorable thank you for your tips & tricks🥳🥰💗🎉
I am not supposed to film in airport security, but I want to so badly. Thanks for watching this old video; I now am Travel Tips by Laurie. I did forget to mention to download your airline's app and when you do go through security, take everything out of your pockets.
