+WinterSoldier LTE Sevendust is doing just fine. It's the whole metal/rock scene that needs to pick up. Kids rather listen to some DJ dressed as Mickey Mouse with a light show going while taking X or Molly. What we have here is a failure of the system. LOL Teach your kids right! Musicians > DJs.
I met him once at what I think was Fallout 2000 in Orlando. I got a backstage pass and we were sharing a drink together, him and Clint. Really cool guys, have always respected them
Whether you like their music or not, Sevendust is good dudes. I met them in the 90's at a record signing event in middle of nowhere Texas and they were just as friendly and cool as they are in this interview.
Yep! I remember smoking weed with these guys backstage in Tempe, AZ in 1998(I think it was anyway). I was in a rising local band and our manager got us a hangout session with them after a show they put on(Chester Bennington was also at that show in Grey Daze). They still seem like the same down to Earth, humble guys they were back then. I remember being blown away by Lajon being friendly enough to put aside all the trappings of a backstage post-show of being a rock star and just chilling with us like we were friends of his. We were getting big enough in AZ to where we were getting to mingle with quite a few bigger acts that came through the state and like anything else, some are giant assholes and others aren't. When I think back, Coal Chamber was an absolute nightmare to be around. Wayne Static was another really good dude. Sad he passed away. The band I was in never "made it" because we broke up over "creative differences" like many bands do. Glad to see these guys are still around and doing well.
100% I ran into them at McCarran International LV standing in a sandwich Booth line and got a quick pick with em so chill . this was in May of 2012 I think .
Thanks for sharing. I’m not the biggest fan of the band. But I do love the Animosity album. I used to sing that album front to back OFTEN back in the day. Very fun. Good vocal patterns on it. Nice to hear everyone here in the comments talk about how cool they are in person
Have seen these guys live 5 times, top 5 favorite bands, agree with you about being one of the best, they sound the same live or listening to CD. The fact that he has dreads is only a plus
I saw Sevendust with Creed back in the early 2000's. I actually found out about Sevendust at a local cd store. I saw their first album and said "This looks interesting." I listened to it and I loved it. I remember the first big story about them was about Skinheads showing up to their concert because they thought that their songs were about white supremacy. I can only imagine how they felt when Lajon walked out on stage. I would have laid on the floor from laughing so hard.
+TheMeJustMe75 I also saw them a few years ago for the third time in Connecticut and at least 3 rows in the back were all Hell's Angels. I was completely shocked. I know not all Hell's Angels are racist but that I definitely have heard that many are.
I saw that tour as well. I had no clue who Sevendust was. Never heard their music. The first song was played, Lajon was whipping his dreads, the band was jumping up and down, Morgan was screaming and I was hooked. I don’t even really remember creed. They have been one of my favorite bands ever since.
Sevendust, creed, kid rock, and metallic played a concert in Tampa. I missed sevendust due to traffic. Got to see them later though but that concert rocked.
Sevendust has to be one of classiest bands in history. Talk about down to earth, humble, still making killer music, and still enjoying each other’s company while doing it. Very cool dudes.
@@BucNastyy hes so awkward insecure and dry. he doesnt even know how to laugh with LJ's vibrant funny personality. he just awkwardly stares at them with dead eyes when theyre laughing "cannot... compute... humor..."
@@Three3Nill Plus he's laughing along and more sociable towards the end, some people just take more easing up to others, myself included. I'm always the quiet dude when meeting new people, but as soon as I'm comfortable with people, I can be the most annoyingly down to earth person, lmao.
Its just makes me so happy to see this band at the top of there game and having so much fun together. Clean, sober, families can do wonders to people :) I met them once and they made me feel like they were my friend. So much fun watching these guys just continue to get better with each album.
I got to spend a few hours hanging with Clint and Lajon at a show in 98. Ultraspank (their bass player still owes me a pack of smokes), Clutch, Stuck Mojo (Bones is a cool fucking dude), and Sevendust. Lajon was the nicest guy ever. He's a little dude and I'm 6'5. It was comical looking. Morgan was so drunk he could barely keep his chin off his chest. We talked for a minute but he was fully wrecked. They put on a hell of a show though. I'll always have much love for Lajon and Sevendust.
I'm the same way. Into more technical metal, but I've met these guys a few times and they're probably the coolest band I've ever hung out with. Fucking love these guys!
I can also vouch for Thor's experience. I've seen Sevendust several times in Tallahassee, Florida. Lajon wasn't shy about hanging out after the show and was just the nicest dude. I think Lajon and Dimebag are/were the most humble people and made everyone feel welcome. On a side note, it's a fucking shame Dime is gone.
Denial is one of the most underrated songs to come from the whole groove metal movement 20 years back. Shame, cause they seems to cool dudes but they didn’t pop off as much as they should have.
Sevendust at a Manson show demanding their $99! That's amazing! Sad hearing about LJ's brother - I saw them play right after that happened. Super emotional show.
At their show 4 days ago, Lajon winked at me multiple times, sang to me while holding my hand, and blew me kisses twice! If I wore panties they would have been ruined!!😄
Yeah, it's sad to look around and see that the same boring rap gets promoted, but you hear good songs and they never get any positive press. Truly a shame
These guys are really cool and always put on a good show every single night. I first saw them at Woodstock '99 and then 28 more times since! They're really one of the best bands out there. Glad to see them having so much fun and performing at the top of their game AND sober. Much respect.
Lajon Witherspoon has been my metal music crush for many years. He is talented, funny, down to earth, and sexy as hell!! At a Sevendust show 4 days ago, Lajon held my hand as he sang part of Thank You to me, then winked and blew me a kiss!!! He winked at me like 4 or 5 times that show and I cheesed like a teenager every time! Epic concert moment!!🖤
Saw them open for Megadeth back in 98. Had never heard of them at the time. The crowd was into them. I never became a fan but regardless of my or anyone else's opinion of them, they are a solid live band.
Was at the show the night LJ found out about his brother in St. Jo, MN. They played a short set and you could see the emotion on his face. I've had the pleasure of seeing them and chilling with them several times since. Just last Wednesday I saw them in fact. Most down to earth guys in the business, in my opinion.
In the early 2000’s I saw them in concert. I was in front against the gate and a crowd surfer landed on top of my head which got slammed/pinned on the gate. When they finally got him off of me - my head was bleeding quite a bit. LJ stopped the show mid song saying “hey get her up here - she’s hurt”, had security pick me up over the gate so I was directly in front of the stage and they gave me a chair to finish out the concert holding a towel against my head. 😆 They all kept checking on me during the rest of the show. I still have the scar and they are still the nicest band I’ve met.
It's nice to see these two having good times like bros again, I know they had that falling out for a bit. Best band I saw at warped tour 97 man, amazing live.
Fact: Clint Lowery is from Fayetteville, NC, grew up in Layfayette Village and attended Douglas Byrd Senior High School. I don't think the dude ever graduated. I use to drive him and his brother Corey around after shows. Clint is about 3 or 4 years younger than me.
Sevendust was n still is one of the best bands EVER. Just listened to all there tunes after a long time. Now they are on my play lists. Love them FOREVER
Most under rated band, but what a show.I don't even know where to start.everyone in this band is Super Star class. Most powerful vocals, the guitar work is second to none,Bass guitar that makes you feel like your having a heart attack on a roller coaster, and last but definately not least Morgan on the drums, dudes explosive fills are the stuff of legend.
Wenxing Wang At EDBD Lajon started talking about religion and thanked the guy who was dressed as Jesus. Directly afterwords he chuckled and said "Now here's a song called Bitch!"
Yeah..to find a black guy like this is as rare as finding a 4-leaf clover, blindfolded..and on your first try. What an awesome dude that breaks all the cliches and the norm.
The story of Caylee Anthony was really fucked up.But that's no reason to call a band out just because some convicted person listens to it. Unfortunately this is part of the blame wheel.Spin it,then blame whatever comes on the wheel.
Everytime I've ever heard the guys from Sevendust speak, they seem like just the nicest, and most chilled out and down to Earth guys ever. And they make such incredible music. I can't even count the number of songs by Sevendust that give me chills.
Just when I thought I couldn't possibly like these guys any more than I already do, I watch this awesome interview and I'm still impressed with how genuine they are. Quite possibly the most underrated alternative/rock/metal band out there, and they definitely deserved to win that goddamn Grammy they were up for; especially when pondering the notion that they've been crafting consistently engaging music for 20 years to this day (18-19 years, technically, if you're going by when their first record was released in '97). "Angel's Son" is a brilliant, beautiful song and hearing Lajon talk about where the song stemmed from kind of made me a bit teary eyed. Speaking of which, this interviewer asks (not one, but) TWO DEATH-RELATED QUESTIONS IN A ROW?!?!?! What the hell is wrong with you, "Gruhamed"?! Maybe be a little less stoned for your next interview, or be even more stoned? I don't care, whatever it takes for you to think before asking two emotionally-charged questions... in a fuckin' row.
Better to get those out of the way first. Do you want him to ask the 2nd death question after the prison story when they were laughing? Talk about buzzkill.
I see what you mean. It just hit me on a personal level when I first watched because I wouldn't have asked those questions whatsoever. Being such a fan of the music, I would have loved to hear them talk about Lowery's departure, especially in making "The Last Song" right after he left, I would love to hear Clint's thoughts about that song now that they've buried the hatchet.
i went to one of their shows on the tours they were on when his brother past, and he dedicated Angel's Son to him and it was just very emotional, went through the whole crowd....amazing, definitely a moment Ill never forget!
I remember the first time I saw/heard LJ and Sevendust. I was probably 10 or 11 and I was watching TV. A commercial promoting their album came on and it was the video for Denial. I was trippin tf out because I finally saw someone who looked like me playing a genre of music I was just getting into. I went down a rabbit hole trying to find any and everything I could about the band. Then I saw the video Waffle! That's when I was legit hooked. This was awhile after I first seen the commercial for their album and I was already deep into nu metal. I recorded that video on a VHS tape and watched it every morning before school and as soon as I got home. I remember trying to kick flip over 3 stairs with Waffle on repeat and I busted my shit 🤣Never picked up another skateboard again.
I saw Sevendust down at the Metro Theatre in Sydney just 2 nights ago (26/04/2019) and as we were lining up for entry the whole band walked out and shook hands with the fans waiting in line at the time, and see the great thing about that was everyone kept there cool and greeted them like old friends as they did us. Now majority of that crowd were older, middle aged men and women with families and life experience - maturity, and I am just this 18 year old Aussie boy who has a passion for his music and to have met, looked into the eyes of and shook hands with each and every member of that band was the most surreal experience. I was lucky enough to be up on the barrier of their set, directly in front of me was Clint. Multiple times I made communications and gestures to Clint because I genuinely worship him and his talents. I play guitar aswell, and he took a moment in the show to come forward to me and hand me the pick he had (I know it’s common for band members to throw picks) but the fact that he handed it to me followed by a wink and a chest tap was something truly special it made my night. I sent him a message on Instagram, nothing super fanboy, just a genuine thank you and he responded just today with a simple devils horns and a heart. You won’t get stuff like this at modern day mainstream shows. Metal is a beautiful thing because its real, it’s intimate, it’s raw and this band is a perfect example as to why. Thank you 7D 🤘🏼♥️
that is so fucking cool dude!!!! both clint and lajon are both 50 which is crazy to think about clint is from florida and lajon is from atlanta which is very cool and i also did not know that lajon is the same height as jacoby shaddix lead singer of papa roach which i did not know either
