The sh*ty company I was with, fired me because they were getting rid of the transportation department, I signed for a 4,700$ severance pay, big f*ckin mistake, I only got 2,150$ of it after taxes and then I had to claim it in my unemployment benefits, so I didn't get paid for the whole month, so in actuality, I really didn't get sh*t . My advice to anyone getting laid off for no reason, don't sign anything, get a lawyer and sue for wrongful termination!!!!
I went through the same thing, but it's too late for a lawsuit. Instacart gave me $1000, but I got around $500 after taxes. Also, I received a letter that I will not be able get unemployment benefits.
Thanks for this info! And for the encouragement. are we allowed to ask who else was terminated? I am unclear because many were overseas and we are all remote, so I don’t know if discrimination would be a factor.
Amber, I just found your channel and WOW thank you for the GREAT advise. I hope you are still producing videos to help people. Positive messages and great advice YES! PLEASE KEEP IT UP!
Great information, however even with my volume all of the way up (tried with headphones too) I could barely hear you. I’m guessing it had something to do with the distance of the microphone (maybe?). What is a method to find an attorney to work with? I’m in a similar situation now and in need of someone to represent my interests.
can I still get unemployment benefit after getting severance package in california? Also, what would be benefit of not signing severance package and termination letter?
The company was bought out and if you need per your job you had to sign. When you lose your job you need the severance money. Between the employment contracts, non compete and the severance contracts you’re probably killing your career and giving up all your rights. These contracts should be illegal but they’re not.
