Very helpful tutorial. I’ve got three of these to make in autumn and winter. I’ve not used a sewing machine in a very long time, so please 🤞🏽for me 😬

Love it! Best thing I’ve bought for quilts is adhesive spray. No shifting between the 3 layers! I also use polar fleece, great cheap hack.

Good tip! Does the adhesive spray wash out or stay in?

I take a picture of placement as well, I also interface any stretchy fabric. Your quilt is gorgeous xx

That's a good idea to interface the stretchy fabric! I wish I thought of that, the stretch patches were trouble makers

I have so many onsies saved for my son and daughter! Rubens blankie turned out so cute!! This is my sign that I need to go through them haha. You had me laughing when you said your sons birthday was the following day, and you were staying up late to finish. I've done this with so many projects. Christmas stockings and Blankets, Easter dress, birthday jumper, a birthday purse... and the list goes on. Last minute mums unite!! (Glad it's not just me)
@MyMumMakes
@MyMumMakes Год назад
Yep you're not alone - I certainly end up doing projects last minute. And every time I start it really thinking "this will be the time I finish it early" and yet it always ends up that things take longer or the kids get sick or whatever and I'm still scrambling at the end. Oh well. I'm a pro at finishing things last minute at this point! Haha Yes have a go at turning the onsies you saved into a blanket. It's such a nice way to save them and still get to see them and use them.

My eldest of 3 is 8years old and have been saving clothes for this since he was little… but keep thinking, do I really want a memory blanket taking up space? Great idea to add in a theme of some sort though so it would match a bedroom, or be a bit more aesthetically pleasing rather than just sitting in a blanket box.
@MyMumMakes
@MyMumMakes Год назад
Oh I'm glad you liked this idea! Reuben loves this blanket and no joke has slept with the every night since then which is about 8 months now. I agree though it helps to pick clothes that look good together. I've still got some spare baby clothes that didn't fit the 'vibe' for this blanket which hopefully will have their time in another project

Thanks so much for this tutorial. It's one of the best I've seen in prep for making my first ever quilt - a baby blanket out of hubby's worn out button up shirts. I'm about to sew the middle and back layers, and wanted to ask (or reconfirm rather) - you didn't sew the inside layer separately, right? Does it not bunch up ? Thanks

So beautiful & very special, just curious what you used for the backing fabric. Is it a minky fabric? I love this idea. I’m planning to self study sewing because of this and was just wondering if what kind of sewing machine do i need? I’m overwhelmed when i googled the types of sewing machines, like single needle, overlock and etc. I don’t know which one to purchase for a newbie like me. I’m planning on making a baby size comforter as well if that’s possible for the same machine. Pls help :D

@MyMumMakes

Good question. I worked on it in the evenings once my kids were in bed for about 5 days. So it possibly took 10 hours I'd say? I'm not sure exactly as this was made a year ago

Whats the measurements for the backing material?
@MyMumMakes
@MyMumMakes 11 месяцев назад
Hi there! You want it to be around 8cm larger on all 4 sides than the final measurement of your front piece. So you could measure your final front piece and then add 16cm (6 inches) to the length and add 16cm (6 inches) to the width. Hope that helps!
