Oh I love these. They are so handy. I love the secret pocket on the back. Good for the hand sanitizer. My Aunty Hazel (Mum's sister) taught me to sew, starting when I was nine. She was always so neat and tidy with her sewing (she was a seamstress and worked for couture shops). She always instilled in me to snip, pin, press, measure twice cut once, etc. By the time I got to school and did domestic science there was not too much for them to teach me. I learnt from the best. My Aunty would have loved these pocket tissue holders. They weren't around when she was sewing. I could see her sewing them up by the dozen for all the family and friends. Her hobby was craft sewing at home since she sewed garments at work.

Aunty Hazel was a smart woman! LOL! It really does make all the difference in quilting and sewing if you press well, snip the loose threads, etc. She sounds like a woman after my own heart! I remember making a bunch of these when I started sewing. They are the perfect beginner project. Thanks for watching!

Being new to your channel, I've been looking at your older tutorials. Like you I've been making these for ages although never with the pockets. Additionally I've made these modifications. First, a layer of thin cotton batting is inserted between the lining and outer fabric. This gives more stability to the tissue holder. Second, I clip the corners prior to zigzagging then box the four corners by folding the zigzagged seam to middle. Then machine stitch approximately 5/8" from the point. Turn right out and tissue holder is box shaped. Lastly, about 3/4" from where lining pieces meet, I hand sew across the opening tacking securely. This keeps tissues in place.

I have a tissue holder, but no hidden pocket. I like these small easy projects in between bigger projects. Thanks Kris

Such a cute project, and a perfect little gift for friends. One of my favorite "pokey tools" is a phillips head or flat head screw driver. It is strong (for stubborn corners) and blunt. I have a hot pressing ruler, not Clover. I want to share a couple of alternative uses: (1) They make fantastic tools for foundation paper piecing. They are so thin and hard (at least mine is), the work perfectly for both folding the papers and pairing with the Add a Quarter Ruler. (2) With the 45 degree line, you can make a perfect alignment and crease in your binding. I glue my binding fully on my quilt as Sharon Schambers does. When I get to the corner, I use my hot hemmer to press a perfect crease at the 45 and on the flip down. (and mark on the inside so I can see it at the machine if necessary). Given that I bind this way, pressing keeps any fullness out.

I will have to check it out! I used to glue by binding, too. I don't do it quite as much anymore, mostly because I don't like the feeling of glue on my fingers, and in inevitably ends up on my fingers, no matter how hard I try to avoid it. Thanks for the tips! I love the idea of using a phillips head. I am going to give it a try!

So handy, the secret pocket is adorable. Easy to follow tutorial, I was wondering what was going to happen to the bump in the lining hehehe . My great gran was a snipper, Dad passed it on to me with a warning of never pull a thread :D Thank you Have a lovely weekend 💖🌸🐾
