Sewcial Sunday - Demo How to make a recessed zipper with no side panel 

I just bought my machine this February and started watching RU-vid videos to learn how to sew. I've made quilts for gifts but have just started making bags and I am hooked. They are so fun to make and much faster than quilts.

I bought my Huskvarna viking opal 650 in January 2015. In the last 4 years with this machine, I sewed thousands times more than with my previous one which I gave to my DIL. The reasons are that I have more time (kids are grown up) and mostly because I discovered a whole sewing community on the internet. I'm so grateful that many designers and creators like you are sharing their passion so the anybody, all over the world, can learn to sew. Likeguylaine xx

My Kenmore is over 50 years old. I was just a little girl when my dad bought it for my mom. It was top of the line and came with all kinds of attachments and cams for what were then, very fancy stitches. I love this machine and I use it all the time and it’s all original, even the motor. I also have a commercial Juki 8300n and a Consew double needle machine that I use as well. I’m retired and I sew pretty much everyday. Thank you for your videos, this old dog loves to learn new tricks.

I have 2 sewing machines and I love them both!.....somewhat equally.☺️ My newest machine (newest as in year manufactured) is a singer stylist 7258. She was the first sewing machine I bought when I decided I wanted to get back into sewing. I've had her for over 7 yrs, she's nothing too special but she gets the job done. My other sewing machine was a surprise birthday gift from my boyfriend. She's a 60 year old Kenmore model #47. She's a gorgeous dusty mauve with all original parts, including the drop down cabinet that I am in the process of refinishing. The previous owner loved and cared for her from the day she bought her till the day she passed away. I've only had her for a couple of months and I'm still getting to know her, but it was definitely love at first sight! 😍 I also want to thank you and Danny for everything the 2 of you do. Since subscribing to your channel my confidence and sewing skills have increased 100%. I've also tried some of the more difficult/advanced sewing patterns that I probably would have never tried in the past. 💖💖💖

Hi! I bought my Viking Sapphire 960Q in 2014 shortly after my Mom passed away. It intimidated me so bad it took me a year to finally decide to actually start sewing with it. I can't believe it has been 5 years! I got back into making quilts and will always love making them. But I also feel its time to step out of my comfort zone and widen my skills. I love all of your tutorials and have some of your patterns on my list of Must buy! Thanks for all you do. You have a great talent and you are my inspiration to widen my skills!

My husband got me my Juki for Christmas over twenty years ago. I had never heard of Juki, but he researched about it and surprised me. Feel Blessed.

I have had a Janome 7330 since April of 2017, this is my first sewing machine. I haven't sewn since junior high school, now 40 some years later...My first Sewsweetness bag was the Paladin. Thank you, Sara!

I have 2 machines a light weight Brother that I got about 2 years ago and a 56 year old Singer - still does a great job. It was the first thing I bought when I got out of High School and started working. Hope I can catch the show live next Sunday. Enjoy watching all of the previous ones.

My favorite book club book was The Sewing Machine, Very Proud to be a Bag Lady in Fresno Ca. Love the fabric too. My closest quilt shop is 30 mins away. I have 2 sewing machine that I use, 1 used to be my mother in-laws and its from 1980's (if not older) it's a Brothers XL-5130 and a newer Brother Project runway CE-1100 and I've been sewing for 4 years now.

Hi Sara & Danny, great show! My most used machine, a Necchi Lydia 3, has been mine since my 21st birthday in 1974!!! I bought a Janome 9400 a year ago when I started quilting and making bags and pouches. I love them both! Oh, I am a Bag Lady!

I have my machine for almost 4 years now. I still have the one before this one for 25 years and it still sew beautiful.

I have had my (daily) Pfaff sewing machine since 1998, I purchased it used from a quilter. It continues to be my favorite. My mom just recently purchased a Janome sewing machine for me, but I am currently giving my husband sewing lessons on it.

I have had my Bernina 1260 since 1997. 22 years old and it still sews like a dream. There were several years in there where it didn't get used at all. Hubby thought I needed an upgrade this winter and bought a "new to me" Bernina 820. I have had that one since Feb.

I bought my Bernina in 2010. It is my main sewing machine. Not the first one I have ever owned, but by far the best and most reliable one I use.

Thanks so much for this tutorial! I love zippered finishes and I've never done a recessed one. Very helpful! I've had my sewing machine since 2010. My husband bought it before our oldest child was born so I could make her a quilt. I've gotten better since that first attempt and am glad my machine has held up. It's a singer quantum stylist.

You are such a pleasure to watch. I have had my machine for 8 years now. It visits its "mechanic" every year just to be sure all is well.

I've had my sewing machine since 2013. It's a Husqvarna/Viking Designer Topaz 20 that I originally bought for embroidery. I found that I love how it sews so much that I also use use it for quilting and making bags.

Great show! I struggled with how to make a recessed zipper like your demo about 6 months ago, but never really found anything that came close to as clear as what you just demonstrated. Thank you for all your wonderful tutorials. My current primary machine is a brother that was gifted to me about 2 years ago. It is a workhorse for most general stitching and piecing, but struggles with the thicker seams of handbags. I have a vintage machine that handles those a bit better, so it is getting pulled out for the more brute force jobs these days.

I am very lucky and got my sewing machine only 4months age. My older machine I have had for nearly 10 years, it wasn’t up for making you great bags, but now with my new one I can make a lot more 😀😀😀⭐️

She’s about 7 years old and my old Brother Nouveau 1500s I picked up for a song for free motion and ding, ding, ding, started using for bag making. I try to sew everyday. Sewing. I've had my Brother combo sewing and embroidery machine for probably 6 years now. It's a small machine I bought to see if I like doing enbroidery. I love this machine, have had no problems and it sews beautifully. My husband bought me a Singer combo with bigger hoops for embroidery about a year later. Although I would love to get the newer Brother machine, they are out of my price range.

Great show Sara I've had my current sewing machine, Janome XL 601 for about 4 years, my first one 30 years, which still works. Both were bought 2nd hand. Another great show, I loved all the books in the book club & thanks for the projects. I think the Last Runaway is my favourite & I'm reading another Tracey Chwvalier now - the Single Thread - so thanks for the recommendations

Hello from Cleveland! 😀 I've had my current sewing machine for about 6 months now - a Janome Mod 200. Before that I was using a Kenmore that I bought in 2010. Thanks for the chance to win! I also just recently bought some of that Spectrastatic fabric - great minds think alike! Lol. I have a Jo-Ann's a quarter mile from my house, Michaels about a mile away, and a local fabric shop just over half a mile away, so I'm pretty fortunate! Oh, and for my favorite book, I mostly read nonfiction and memoirs. My favorite nonfiction book ever is "Random Family: Love, Drugs, Trouble and Coming of Age in the Bronx" by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc

I have had my Husqvarna 930 for almost 2.5 years. My husband went to sewing machine store to buy me a zipper foot for my 20 year old singer and said “they were so nice, you should go look for a new machine”. Love him to pieces.

This was a great demonstration...so concise and straightforward. Thank you! I have had my Babylock Symphony for about 3years. I also use my Brother Dream machine for sewing bags and I’ve had that one around 5 months.

I have a Pfaff Hobby 1040. I’ve had it about 15 years...simple, not digital. It has served me well.

I have 2 sewing machines, my Janome is probably 15 years old and my Pfaff Creative Icon is just 2 years old. I just happily discovered my Janome is a real workhorse, made my Aragon bag with no problems!!

15 years ,I love it.....its an embroidery brother 2002 a real workhorse and embroiderers too

I've had my Tradition for 2 years. I also had just started learning to sew during that time as well. I'm still a newbie in terms of experience time, but with Sara's tutorials and the many great people in this group (Both YT and FB) I've been able to make some lovely bags I can be proud of :)

I’ve only been sewing a year so I’ve had my Singer Heavy Duty 4432 for about a year and recently invested in a Thor GC2603 Industrial Cylinder Arm a month and a half ago. I sew a lot of leather bags and it works amazingly 💕

My favourite bookclub book was The sewing machine. The stories, the tone and theme just clicked with me. I listened to it, on the bus to and from work, and I wanted the trip to be longer :-D My second favourite was The Gown, but I enjoyed reading the others too. My sewing machine, the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 is just over 1 year old, bought as present to myself. I bought it to make clothing, but then bags grabbed my attention. It works well, thickness is no problem, but it will baulk when it gets too solid. I have a Singer from 1972 that will be sent to be fixed, my guess is that it will be better for the really heavy sewing :-)

Excellent demo! I have a Bernina 630 and have sewn everything from fine chiffon to jean fabrics with it!

I've had my Janome 6500 sewing machine for 8 1/2 years...love it!!

I have had my most used machine (Brother) for 7 years now, but I am slowly transitioning to my 1938 Singer Featherweight since it is a workhorse and powers through many layers with no problem at all!

I have had my main sewing machine, a Janome m100 qdc, for 2 years now. However, I have recently (April) acquired a Vintage Pfaff which I have been using to make bags - it's fabulous and just the ticket for several layers of fabric.

My most used machine is a Bernina. I have had it 6 years and it goes through al of the layers of any of your bags.

From book club my favourite would be the last runaway. I’m a historian so this was perfect. I adored the sewing machine too. Great choices Sara!

The sewing machine I use the most is my Singer Legacy.SE 340. I've only had it for 1.5 years. Handles all thicknesses of fabric.

The machine I have begun to use as my go -to machine is a vintage Kenmore 158.523. It is lavender and cream colored, and uses cams. I got it at an antique mall in South Georgia in February of this year. I believe it was made around 1966. A very heavy, quiet -sewing machine.

I purchased my Janome 12000 in 2012 (7 yrs ago) as a retirement gift to myself. I have a Janome Jem Platinum, which was my mother's (2007 - 12 yrs ago) for classes. I also still have mine and my mother's Bernina 730 record (1968) and 830 record (1974). Both still work well. I think I equally enjoyed 'The Sewing Machine' and 'The Last Runaway'. Great titles. Another good read is 'Hope on the Inside" by Marie Bostwick.

I have two main machines. I have my Singer Featherweight, which I received from my grandmother, in 1960, when I was 6! The other is my Juki TL2010Q, which I bought in November, 2017, upon your recommendation! (And, I love it!!)

I have had my bag making machine since June 2019. I use both a Juki 2010 and Janome HD9. Love them both.

My sewing machine is 5 years old. My last one (A Bernina) I had for 35 years. Miss it!

I've had my sewing machine for 13 years and I bought it used! It has been a great workhorse of a machine! It's a Kenmore made by Janome.

I use 2 Singers primarily. A vintage 1945 Singer 201 that I have owned for 33 years. I inherited from my mother when she passed away in 1986. My portable Singer I received as a birthday gift in 1997. So 22 years on that one.

My most used machine was purchased in 2015, a Bernina 790. I bought the Juki 18 QVP in February of 2019 so that I could sew through all the layers of the Day Trip Wallet. My Bernina did it two times with lots of frustration. The Juki did much better but I still am in the learning curve feeling comfortable with it.

I have had my Bernina Minimatic for 45 years - used a great deal. It is about to be supplemented by a new machine - not pensioned off as yet.

Have my Pfaff Performance Icon almost 2 years. Great Machine.

I used to use my mams singer machine she bought in the 1960s but it sadly was beyond repair earlier this year so I bought a relatively basic Monarch machine recommended by the chap who serviced the old singer. It is working well so far for me but I may be looking to upgrade next year.

My machine is a Juki 2010, I’ve had it since February 2019 and love sewing on her.
