Such a wonderful tutorial! It was nice to see every step from start to finish. And on a side note, I'm really glad there wasn't any music it was actually very therapeutic to watch.

Thanks for showing the tedious things that we can often skip! Like meticulous pressing. I’ve just become a member. Glad I did. I love the fact that you demonstrate comprehensively rather than waffle on like a lot do ❤️

Hi, Well I've been making my clothes since I was about fourteen when I started getting interested in fashion but in those days you couldn't get any small sizes in the shops. I'm now a lot older shall we say! I did study Pattern Cutting at college though - see my full 'About Me' here - angelakane.com/sewing/about.php Thank you so much for commenting.

thanks for the video very helpful I'd like to know if you add an extra 5/8' seam allowance to the back facing and front facing to sew the lining to it, and, how much seam allowance should be sewn when sewing the lining to the jacket?
@plainlyput336
@plainlyput336 6 лет назад
I've tried many times but I can't sew a sleeve by slipping it through the arm hole. I always sew it flat on the arm hole/curve before sewing the sides of the garment and arm length together. Makes it so much easier than trying to adjust a fully sewn sleeve into an arm hole.
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 6 лет назад
Like many things, there is never a right or wrong way. It's best to use the method you find easier. I would say it depends on how tailored a garment is.

hi angela, please could you tell me if when sewing the main jacket fabric and darts, do you sew darts in the lining of a jacket?
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 8 лет назад
Yes, you sew the lining in exactly the same way as the jacket.

hi Angela, I need a very good fabric recommendation? I'm allergic to wools. So cotton for the coat is not easy to find. love natural fibers like cotton. Crazy for star sewing this coat. Thanks, Anela.
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 5 лет назад
Hello Sylvia, Corduroy is a great option for this coat, especially if you can get a real chunky 'Elephant Cord". For summer, it's easy. I've made several versions in linen. Look out also for furnishing brocades. I hope that helps.

The large tack stitches that have been loosely done on the front of the jacket - why is this? So the fabric doesn’t move which you’re attaching the lining?
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 3 года назад
Yes, doing temporary tacks to keep parts of your garment in place while you work on other areas is good practice. A good question - thanks

Angela: I am a novice sew'er who like to make a birthday present for my wife. I'd like to make a warm onesie pajama using two layers of material - polar fleece outside and sherpa fleece inside. I have NOT seen a tutorial that addresses this full suit lined onesie effort. Would you recommend that I follow the techniques in this video for the lined coat. Do I essentially make two onesie's - one of each material and then fit them inside each other for the final assembly and adding collars and arm/leg contrasts? Thanks for any suggestions you can offer me. Jim
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 5 лет назад
Hello Jim, Yes, that is the way I would do it. Good luck with the project - what a lovely present.
@kanyovandemolale4896

what seam finishing did you use for the sleeve lining?
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 8 лет назад
When you are lining a garment especially a garment like a jacket, often you don't need to finish the raw edges of the seam allowances. The raw edges are less inclined to fray when sandwiched between the main fabric and lining. If it's a garment that will be hand or machine washed by all means overlock or zigzag but for a garment that will be dry cleaned it may not be necessary. You can trim with pinking shears as this helps to reduce fraying. Thank you for commenting.

How do you sew the sleeve lining to the sleeves?
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 5 лет назад
I deal with this in Part 16 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-su7CT4Rxalg.html. There are several ways to do this but slipstitching the lining in place is the easiest.
@jehanarifa435
@jehanarifa435 6 лет назад
i dont understand, is the lining only attached along the front openings and neckline? how about the shoulders, side body and sleeves? do you just let them loose?

Which lining cloth did she use?? AnswerS appreciated 🙏
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 2 года назад
I would have used a standard lining fabric, probably acetate or polyester. For something special I might use a habutai silk or sateen. Look for antistatic and breathable.

Hi, This is covered in the last episode of this 17 part series, Sewing the Hems - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Pol9VGU9dHs.html This is a coat rather than a jacket so the hem is not 'bagged' as is usual with a jacket. Thank you for the feedback.

You are probably right! This was a series that I made many years ago, just to be viewed by members of my site. A few years later I decided to make all my tutorials free on RU-vid. These days my videos are much more concise. I am though thinking about bringing out these earlier videos, edited down to one video. Thank you for your feed back.
