Thanks for a great DIY (Do It Yourself) video. You have a lot of courage to take on a project like this. Good for you. I think that you should maybe open up a business in jackets or anything else that you like. You obviously have the motivation to succeed. Go for it!
Did you actually use the dyed rib knit? When you showed it in your Materials section, the rib knit already looked red with yellow stripes, and it looks the same in your final result. Later, you said you dyed it. What color dye did you use for it, and what did you use it for?
Hi! For the front ribbing piece, I dont have specific measurements, because I just eyeballed it, but the width of it is 3". The double welt pieces were 7.5" by 2". The width of the button lining pieces was 4.5".
Hi, thank you! I sadly don’t have a pattern for the jacket, but I would recommend learning to create a pattern from the clothing you already own. There are tonssss of videos that will help you do that.
@@ACPbyVLA I dont have a particular place, but I do like to go to my goodwill and search for fabrics since you could find some really nice fabric for cheap.
Thanks! I made the pattern by tracing some of my old jackets that I liked the fit of. It is a very cost effective way to create patterns specifically for you!
I actually made my own pattern using jackets I already had. You definitely should be able to. The steps for sewing may be different. I would also recommend not cheaping out on the materials like I did. If you are going to put a lot of effort into making it, mind as well make it quality!
Hi! I used chenille fabric and cut it into the letter I wanted. It is not the best because it frays easily, but it gives you a similar look to actual chenille patches.
Have you ever enlarged a jacket that is too small? I got my hands on a rare piece and the sleeves fit okay but the problem being the main body is too high up. Would you be kind enough to share any advice on how to extend the length below the waistband area? Thanks!
If it is a very rare piece, personally, I would keep it as is to maintain the original piece. However, to extend the length of the waist band, you’d have to sew more fabric onto the bottom of the waist.
Sorry for taking so long to respond! Please let me know if you need anything in specific, but I will try to explain the best I can. So you have to sew the fabric to the ribbing, used for the waist, on both ends. Make sure when you are sewing it to the ends of the ribbing, you fold the bottom of the fabric in, so that when you sew it to the lining of the jacket there is no raw edge. From there, you need to sew an identical bottom piece of fabric to the bottom edges of the lining. When you attach the lining and get to that bottom part. Fold the edges to the inside and topstitch it on the sides and bottom.
@@mohamedmouallem9721 thanks! I create my own patterns by referencing clothing I already have, step by step sewing videos, and pictures I find online. For this varsity jacket, I used my denim jacket as a reference.
I used about one yard for the sleeves, two yards for the body and another two yards for the lining. This will vary depending on how big or small you want your jacket to be. I got the fabric from Amazon, but if you want higher quality fabrics, I wouldn’t recommend getting it from Amazon.
Hi! So I used felt for the body, but would recommend wool and I used faux leather for the sleeves, but would recommend genuine leather. As for the waist, wrist, and collar, I used ribbing material.
@@monicawright6893 😭 I just started college so I’ve been busy, but I’ll be sure to get something out when I’m on break. What tutorials would you like to see?
