I just found this video looking up some basic tabard videos. You have a great presentation voice. It is clear, concise, and easy to understand. So thank you for this!
I watch your videos all the time but this is the first time I've actually seen you sew something I think. I was wondering if that was something you did. I think you should do more! I have a heavy duty mechanical walking foot machine that will pretty much sew whatever you can fit under the foot. Great for costuming, except I don't costume much, but this is still right up my alley! :-). I make my own bias tapes and piping for upholstery/etc so I don't really have much exposure to the premade stuff but it's good to know that's out there.
Those look fantastic! Just picked up a pattern that was calling for bias tape and had no idea what it was until I saw this. Got to watch an awesome build and saved a trip to Google. Thanks!
hey you guys inspire me to make a lot of cool Causeway stuff but most times I don't have the money but when I saw you make that Ichigo Hollow Mask inspired me to do a lot more so you guys inspire me by making a lot of cool props
You get special feet for sewing machines specifically for bias binding and it makes it A MILLION times easier , it keeps it lined up and even all the way round and it was an instant improvement on my costumes and garments, even good for pillowcases and quilts if you wanted it for that. Super cheap but well worth the buy!
tip if you don't want to see stitching on your bias tape.... do the front first (straight stitch) fold over the edge so the back comes up further than the front... then stitch from the front along the line where the tape meets the fabric (called stitching in the ditch) so that it catches the tape on the back side. It's not always tidy on the back but it looks pretty good from the front ^_^
I just started to watch your vidoes over the past few weeks and there's this thing called a fabric medium that you can mix with your acrylic paints that will turn them into fabric paints. I used this myself on a pair of wings I made from white felt to paint them the colors I wanted and it kept the paint job from being ruined when it rained.
Punished Props Academy Last time I got some Joann's had it right in the section where they had the acrylic paints. It does thin the paint out some so multiple coats are needed depending on the color of the paint and the color of the fabric. But my wings didn't get super stiff so I was still able to bend the wire inside the wings to pose them.
I have an off subject question. I've been re-watching your old videos and I got inspired to make a priest mask using pepakura. (this is my first try with it and I'm not done glueing the pieces together) if you dont mind my asking what did you use to make your priest mask?
Punished Props awesome! I wanted to try something new with pepakura. I'm not amazing at 3d modeling, but I'm learning more about it. I appreciate your response =)
Not to discount the build and skill and whatnot, but just fun knowledge, this is less a tabard and more a monastic scapula, though with the side flappy things its kind of like some amalgamation of the two, but overall, I would call it a monastic scapula over a tabard(I'm not a medieval clothing expert, just going off my basic knowledge gathered)
