I had problems with the automatic buttonholer when using a thicker fabric on a coat I was making. I had to unpick the stitches and use the C foot and guide it myself because it kept getting stuck.
Two possibilities come to mind: the foot control is sticking, or the sensor that stops the needle in the correct position needs adjustment. Can you bring it in to troubleshoot your problem.
