Today we're going to sew a dust cover for the plasma table monitor mount. This is a simple project that can be done with basic tools and little or no sewing experience.

I thought you were gonna design the cover in Fusion 360 lol. I vote for black, with your channel logo embroidered in them ;) Im shocked you havent CNC`d your sewing machine. Cover looks great and will protect the monitor, thanks for sharing!

Technically, the sewing machine is already CNC. It doesn't have a drivetrain. The needle and feed dogs are all servo driven.

Funny you say that. My mother has several computerized sewing and knitting machines. I couldn't tell you a thing about them, but they do all kinds of cool stuff....
@klaernie
@klaernie 2 года назад
Nah, don't embroider the logo, but use the CNC to press some silver foil onto the front - just needs a drag roller to be built ;) My first thought was if one could actually use fusion 360 to layout everything, at least for explaining before the thing exists it makes very nice visuals.

I had a chance to use a CNC sewing machine when I was at school, pretty cool stuff.. I dunno what it cost the school back then, must have been pretty expensive but your comment has made me think of looking into this again... after all I've CNCed everything else in my life, why not repairing pants? :D

A man of many talents👍. As someone else said, it’s you who has to look at it every time your in there so stick with it if you like it. My only observation is that I would have included a hard layer to protect the screen from impact as I could guarantee that dinging the screen would be the ultimate goal of anything I carried past, slipped through my fingers or flew out of what I was working on. I don’t know why inanimate objects seem to have this desire but as my dad always said ‘you wouldn’t believe it possible!’ Could just be a family gene thing though🤔

Good to know about those fabrics, I actually picked up some cheap touchscreen monitors that are very "CNC machine reject" in style from a Craigslist ad almost 2 years ago, eventually I'll stick one out in the garage and probably make a cover with a similar fabric. The hot glue hem is a great idea! The design of the pattern really reminded me of your recent videos of sheet metal in fusion...

Pro tip: If you crease those outside corners on the face, then use a hypodermic needle to run a bead of superglue on the inside, they stay nice and crisp. That's how we kept perfect creases in our military uniforms.

I've done a bit of sewing in the past. Seat covers and other things. But I guess I should have inherited some kind of sewing skill from my great grand pa from a few generations back. Unfortunately didn't do me any good...

I would think since this is going on a monitor and its preventing a more vertical surface than normal. (plus some lcd's have alot of top facing vents that prefer not to be loaded with dust/chips). That maybe adding an additional extended lip the comes down. From the top where it goes over the monitor. This should also prevent it from blowing off if you had the doors open, or a lot of air flow going on. That is the only think i can really think of to improve on this.

That's quite manly! I've been sowing for similar purposes for several years and find it very useful. I'd have chosen black, but I quite like bland things ;-) I also might have tried ironing in a fold so that there's a pronounced corner in the fabric, but I'm not sure that would work with this material. Maybe I'll try to find some of that black stuff with felt you've got there, having some in stock might come in handy.

Looks good. If you stitched the hem or glued it so you could thread some elastic cord through the hem tube. it would suck the edges in and behind a bit like a fitted bottom sheet, Try get yourself some cheap tailoring scissors too. Your thumb will appreciate it on larger jobs. I wondered if you could use clear vinyl window panel (like they use on boat canopies or convertible cars canvas tops) to see screen without ever removing it.. that would be interesting to see being done.

4:59 Yes, this is true until you get smug about it and then find it won't come off. If the "permanent" marker is absorbed at all into the surface, it's not going to fully come off. This includes some paints and even some oil paints. So when you layout the stick-on letters on your kid's door in Sharpie confident that "it'll just wipe off with IPA".....yeah, not so much. It does, of course, wipe off with sandpaper and some fresh paint *sigh*
