Oh this is sooo detailed 👌 No crappy music and shortcuts. l like watching this kind of videos. Pls keep it coming. Pretty 👗 dress! This VIDEO will be my guide on making this dress too. Thank you so much
I enjoy your videos so much. I especially enjoy seeing some of the nifty tools you have that I have not seen before. I when I was younger I made most of my own clothes because back then I could not find plus size outfits that I felt was for my age. Things did change and because of work and children I got away from it for years. I am retired now and I am in the process of gathering patterns and fabric and I plan to try my hand at it again. Your buttonhole attachment brought back memories-my Mama’s electric sewing machine that she bought in the very early 60s came with one just like it I hadn’t thought about making buttonholes with it in years!! Such a good memory! I love your tips tricks and suggestions and love your tutorials. Please keep them coming!
Thank you! And I am really encouraged that now the pattern catalogs are full of designs that are modeled by all kinds of body sizes so there are so many great options out there. I'm glad my videos are helping bring back happy memories :)
Hey Marie! Lovely to see you from a very wet and windy KwaZulu Natal in South Africa! Told you I'd be watching you from here 😊 loves to you and all the animals 😘😘
I’m just in aww of your knowledge and skill. I am so excited to learn more and grow from all your shared wisdom. Thank you for all of this information. Its so much appreciated and and on my behalf much needed.
Thank you! You know I tried the tape thing on another garment and it didn't work as well. I think the buttons have to be flat or something. Fun though. Thanks for watching!
This is one of those things that you stop in the middle and wonder if it is worth finishing. I am so glad you completed this wonderful dress, and it seems like you are, too. You were able to teach so many skills and show alternate ways of doing them depending on your fabric and dress style. It looks so good on you.
The dress looks good on you, I make dresses but I only wear them once or twice because my friends and relatives never wear them so I feel too dressed up. I love to watch you sew.
I know what you mean. I live in an area where most women are wearing sweatshirts and jeans everyday... I just chose to be me ;) After a while you are just accepted as "that friend" and it all works out :)
My goodness, you deserve 12 out of 10 for tenacity, dealing with that really tricky fabric! I hope you agree with me that the end result is totally worth it! It's a beautiful colour and a fabulous, feminine style 😍 👏
Your dress is beautiful! I inherited my Mother's Morse machine that she got around 1957 and I learned to sew on it when I was very young. I have the buttonhole attachment that I bought for it and had forgotten how much nicer the buttonholes look than when I make them with my newer machine. I may just use it the next time I sew buttonholes! Thanks for showing how to make a curved hem. I always learn something new when I watch your channel. Enjoy wearing that beautiful dress!
Hi Connie! I was recently looking at an older Morse machine that was pink. 😁 I'm glad you still have the buttonholer. Enjoy! And thanks for watching :)
Thanks for the tip about wonder tape for invisible zippers. It worked great on the left side, then I ran out on the right side and it didn't look as nice. Reordering more soon!!
I appreciate your talent and common sense problem solving approach. I’ve been sewing since 1961 and learned a couple things today. Love your dress and admire your patience with the fabric!
Hello Barbara! Sometimes it just takes a lot of years working with things to realize that you just need to take your time and work through the problems. You probably know this also 😊 thank you for watching
Thank you so much for this video! I am planning on sewing a similar dress that I will need to add a lining for and wasn't certain how to do it! You have explained everything so well and I have picked up so much useful sewing information from this video!
The dress looks lovely on you. A lot of work went in to it , so I would wear it as much apposable, when the weather is good for it. I love all your tools you have some I've never seen before , the buttonhole scissors. I'll keep to my pin, seam ripper and little scissors . Love the opening film with the animals and your little dog at the end.
Thank you again! :) There are several ways to do just about anything I believe :) and my little dog, Katie, apparently was going to DIE if I did not hold her right then :) Love her. :)
Just lovely! You look beautiful in the dress. Always enjoy watching you problem solve and produce beautiful finished results! Those button hole scissors are awesome. Thank you for sharing!!
I love the patterns you make. I am fairly new to your channel. So far you haven't made what patterns I have yet. I'm planning to make a new summer wardrobe. I lost weight and I want to make some dresses, shorts and tops. Excited to see your next video. By the way This is a pretty dress. Wish I had the pattern.
Thank you this is a bit more difficult than what I have tried before but willing to try now that I have your video to check in with. Thanks for being my sewing mentor.
Beautiful dress and it looks gorgeous on you. I particularly liked how you did the princess seams and added the interfacing. I have never seen the idea of the loop sewing on the buttons.
Love your skirt hemmer! I have one but not quite like that! Would you ever consider doing a sewing rm tour? Also - dress is amazing .. challenging fabric .. but you won! 😊
Because of the lengthwise stretch, I think I would’ve used the broadcloth as interlining. That gives the knit something to hold onto in the seams. Having said that, your finished garment is beautiful!
Thank you!! You know, I toyed with the idea, but, have you ever had a traumatic incident in your past that influences your choices forever? I once interlined a fairly important garment with a cotton that I thought I had preshrunk enough... turns out, it still shrunk some... and ruined the whole thing. So... since then I am terrified to interline something with 100% cotton when the main fabric is not also 100% cotton. Probably irrational, I know :) Anyhow. I also wanted to show this method of lining so there that :) Thanks for watching :)
I had a treadle machine when I was a young teenager and learned to sew on it, but it was given to my older cousin. It is so interesting how they figured out a way to do buttonholes without a zigzag stitch! It scares me though, when you start at the top, most visible hole first!
The dress turned out beautiful. The fabric I think is a double gauze aka the fabric from hell. LOL. The tip of using interfacing to stabilize it is brilliant. Never thought of that. Thanks again for a very informative video.
Thank you for making this pattern. I appreciate the way you handled the challenges of this one. Question, if you had used iron on interfacing for the entire dress would you still have lined it?
You know I think I would still line it only because having that much exposed fusible interfacing could cause trouble with it rubbing up against the body or something. I think it might have a tendency to pull up or something. But you know every project is like a crazy design experiment. Thanks for watching
I love the way this looks on you!!!! Very flattering!!! now question, I would like to take off the buttons in the front and have a solid seam, and put a zipper in the back (I never wear a front buttoning anything because I always have gaps at the bust and waist... so, do you think this pattern could be adapted to that change? or is there another pattern that already has those change? And the suggestion for easing the hem is really genius!
Definitely! Just cut the front piece on the fold at the center front line, and cut the back in 2 pieces adding 5/8" seam allowance at the center. 😊 It should work fine!
Crazy is a good word for crinkled rayon, I told myself never again! Love your vlogs, I learn something new every episode. What was the pattern number for the beige dotted dress you wore on day 2? Thank you beautiful make.
I think you mean what is called in my house the "gumdrop dress" 😊 it is simplicity 8910. I did a video on that pattern too. Thanks for watching :) And stay away from crinkled rayon 😂
Wonderful construction and beautiful dress! Thanks for taking us on a great sewing adventure! By the way, can you give us the name of the Tailoring place you get some of your supplies? Is it on-line? Thanks!
Hey there 😊 yes, I buy some things from a site called biasbespoke.com They ship pretty quickly and so far their quality has been good. Thanks for watching again 😁
I am trying to make this dress. This is my first time at sewing. I am so lost. I have cut out 1, 2 ,3 and 4 of the patterns. I have 2 pieces of each of these. (Total of 8). I cannot figure out how to place them and get them sewn together right. Do I put the two number one pieces of fabric together and then the number 2 pieces together etc. etc. I am making a mockup first out of muslin. Could you please tell me how to fit it all together. I would really appreciate anything you can tell me. First time on a sewing machine and working with a pattern.
With all the love I have, please carefully put the pieces you cut out away. This is not a beginner dress. I would suggest you look at my recent video on a top. Simplicity 8920. Start with a pattern like that and work your way up.
Great video. I love the way you fully describe your techniques. If you made the shirt you're wearing, could you give the pattern and number please. Glad I found your channel. Martha
Hello! I've been sewing regularly for 40 years. At times for pay, in bridal and costuming, but mostly for day to day life. I've read so many books. Studied so many garments. Listened to wise old seamstresses, so there really isn't one particular source of information.
Why you chose this fabric for this particular pattern is still a mystery to me. It’s a beautiful dress but even at the end I still wonder about the choice. Stretchy, stripes and the edge design. My goodness.
I had to laugh. Why is it we are drawn to the fabrics from hades? Yours is rayon challis and mine is silk charmeuse. My favorite blouse is an old pattern w/ wide pleats in the front. Oh my, what fun I have w/ that fabric, but I love the finished blouses, just not the process so much.....
