I learn so much watching you sew! So many little techniques that I had no idea existed!!! I really appreciate your "teacher's heart" and humility to explain your mistake of cutting into your garment and showing us how you fixed it! Love your channel! Keep up the honesty and wonderful explanations as to why you do what you do! I have so much more confidence to tackle different projects because of your detailed instructions! Great job!
This dress looks and fits great on you and very slimming! I haven't sewn in years. I'm thinking about getting back into it. You have inspired me. TFS!!!
I've just discovered your channel and have enjoyed watching several of your makes. I have some of the patterns you have made and that makes it extra special and relevant. Thank you for the time you spend and the care you take. I will continue to watch your current postings and catch up on some of your older makes. Thanks again (from east coast, Australia).
i was a Union Painter that went through an apprentice program. As an apprentice I had an old journeyman painter pass on his words of wisdom to me regularly {thank God}. He said," The difference between a journeyman and an apprentice; is the journeyman knows how to fix his screw-ups".....I love your show. You talk to me like you are right next to me. Love it.
I remember how excited Mother was when she discovered stitch witchery! She was making a pantsuit for me out of baby blue double knit using a pattern made for wovens...what a nightmare! She mentioned several times that the jacket had 13 pieces (bomber style). The pants were flared with pockets and there was the cutest halter top too. It fit beautifully and i got so many compliments everytime I wore it. Yes it was the mid 1970's. That stuff is perfect for hemming knits.
I am newer to sewing clothes and you are so helpful with your tips! My mom lives across the country and sewed clothes for us growing up so you are my new mom for sewing! Thank you
Your saw along and tips are spot on the most perfect and easy to understand so far. I can't thank you enough and you're dress looked beautiful on you. Thank you for these very informative videos 🤗🥰
Videos, tutorials, blogs and so on that show "How to get yourself out of a pickle when things go wrong" are so, so incredibly useful. I loved the section on mending the accidental hole you cut while you were constructing this dress. And it will also be useful for mending in general because even a perfectly constructed garment might need some mending at some time in its "wear and tear" life. I really enjoyed this video a lot!
Wow Marie, if I could send you a wolf whistle I would, absolutely stunning, beautiful, I hope your hubby is planning a night out with you wearing that dress! Love Tinkerbell 👍 please tell me all the chickens have names! Once again I have learnt so much from you, thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks! Wishing you a lovely day, soon be spring 💐💐💐👏👏👏👏😁😁😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣😁😁🤣 Some of the chickens have names, some of them are just rooster number one, two, and three. I really wish spring would get here so I can wear all my warm weather dresses. Soon, very soon 🐷
Your dress turned out beautiful, I have that same pattern and I am inspired to make it, I don’t have much sewing experience so your tutorial and tips are helpful, thank you.
Great video. Your tips are AWESOME!! Great tips that are practice, useful, and the dart pressing is wonderful. Brilliant. Many thanks for your useful and interesting technical tips that are understandable. Thanks also for types of fusible interfacings …awesome. I am learning so much in the pattern adjustments and pre checks. The elastic on the shoulders…brilliant. ❤❤❤
Great job. I appreciate your tutorial. Another help with the neckline gaping is to make the neck binding slightly smaller than the actual neckline so that you have to stretch it a little to fit. It really does prevent the neckline from gaping.
That was such a fabulous tutorial! All your tips and tricks are easy, sensible and achievable for ordinary sewing enthusiasts like myself. Your dress turned out fantastic. The fit was spot on, no lumps & bumps. Just lovely. It really suited you as well.
Great pattern and love the fabric. Stitch witchery is great. I'll have to make it after I get the other dress done. Still working on my bodice. Thank you
My high school home ec teacher would approve. She said over and over that to be a successful seamstress you need to spend as much time at the ironing board as you do at the sewing machine. I do appreciate you leaving in the oopsies like the accidental snip. Your repair demo seems quite doable. I also find all of the stuff you do beforehand helpful in getting your pattern the right size. I don’t sew much anymore except for repairs and such, but I remember having difficulty making a pattern larger or smaller. I usually ended up just deciding how much of a change was needed and adding or subtracting that from the whole pattern piece which was usually around the hip area if I recall correctly. I know your tips and advice are helping so many of today’s sewers.
Another great make, I think it’s super important to show errors, firstly it’s how sewing goes, I once finished a pair of linen trousers and just had one seam left to overlock, and a small section on the back was folded under the seam, it cut a one inch V, I repaired it exactly the same way, with a bit of iron on hemming tape, then minuscule stitches. This shows people not to give up, patterns and fabric are expensive, nothing better to show than how to fix things. Thank you for taking the time to share,
I just found your channel. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. I am kind of nervous about the fit and sewing knits, but you are very inspiring. Thank you so much for taking time to do this
Lots of helpful tips and very clear instructions. Thank you! I will look through my knit dress patterns and see if I have something similar for autumn sewing.
I do have a blouse ,that I made for a granddaughter, that I clipped a hole in while trimming a seam. It has been languishing because I couldn't come up with an idea of how to fix it. I mean, it's not like it's jeans and you can just put a heart patch or something on it. This sounds like a good idea and I do have scraps of the fabric. Thank you for all your tips. I'm definitely going to be saving those annoying little loops that come on many purchased garments.
What a great and helpful video. I honesty don’t know how time went. It was truly an hour of joy. I would consider showing your finished garments and patterns together on the thumbnail. It will attract more viewers. Just my humble opinion.
oh my.....I just cut this pattern out a few hours ago and I just now found your video....wow! thank you for taking the time to share all of the extra tips....I like how you measured the bust area....I look forward to trying that method too. I'm doing view B and need it a little longer, so thanks for that too. This is my first time watching you😊
Love this dress. Thanks for the tutorial, I have this pattern and some fabric but have sidelined it. This video has made me take it out and start. Win!
It is wonderful that you took us with you on the small repair. This is not a world of perfection and it is good to be reminded of that. Can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me, as I am sure that everyone watching has had a similar experience. You have a generosity of spirit to share this with us. Also, it is very important to show the difference between ironing and pressing for both garment sewing and quilt piecing. Makes a big difference. Thank you for your wonderful instructional video.
Thank You. Was setting my sewing room back up after 20 years and bad luck. I bought a pressing ham with sea dust off Amazon. The thing is to smaller than I like. When you said that you made yours I was hoping you would do a tutorial. I found your channel a couple of months ago and have watch and saved them all. You are the perfect teacher.❤️
I’m getting ready to make this dress and accidentally came across your video. I’m so glad that I did! You are an amazing teacher. Thank you for all the helpful tips. By the way, the fit is so very flattering on you!
Thank you. You have a talent for teaching and the tips are great. I just started watching your videos a couple a days ago. You are encouraging me to try the original big 5 patterns again. I struggled with the fitting of them and their lack of instructions. Maybe I should try them again. Looking forward to your next video.
What an instructive video. Thank you for all the tips. I like to sew with cotton knits. Not that scary when you get the hang of it, and the garments are very comfy. You were so calm when you cut into the fabric. It’s happened to all of us, however when it’s happened to me I’ve been known to throw a fit. LOL. By the way thank your subscriber for the pinking shears tip instead of snipping. It works awesome.
What a beautiful make. I learned so much from you. I have that pattern but still a little scared to have a go. Maybe when I buy the fusable web and peice of teflon I might feel brave enough. Thank you
I appreciate your pointing out that there are many different ways to meet your end goal. The stick on shoulder pads are fantastic. I haven’t seen them in the Netherlands, but on my next trip to the US . . .
I have this particular Simplicity pattern and it's awesome. I made View C a couple of years ago it turned out fantastic. I plan to make a couple more because they are so easy and drape so beautifully around the body.
Thank you Marie for all your clear instructions. I have not ventured as yet to make a stretch knit garment but now I feel a little more confident to try. Your dress is very figure flattering and the pattern and colors look perfect on you. I see that kitty also checked it out!
I love your channel! You are good teacher and a calm sewer. You also do a lots of things (like using the seam tapes etc.) that I do too :). I don't follow the directions normally as I learnt to sew using my own patterns. Great work!
Thank you so much! Yes, once you are really comfortable sewing the directions are a good place to reference, but feel free to do things the way that makes sense to you :)
That dress looks fabulous on you. What a master class on sewing a knit dress! I feel inspired to make one up next. I learnt heaps from this video. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing tips. Could I ask where you got the metal seam gauge? I haven't seen one like that.
Thank you!! Look up Dritz EZ Hem, they sell them on all the big sites (amazon, ebay, walmart) and fabric stores. I like it because it has a curved edge and a flat edge. :)
I love watching you and learning so much from you ❤..i have noticed you do a lot of ruffles..i have a ruffler foot..its amazing...no pulling involved ❤
That is so flattering, I'm going to use your idea with the fusible web for the seams..I do use the elastic..I am just finishing simplicity 2692, view b...and then on to view e..a short version...happy sewing..x
Another great video, Marie. I’ve made this dress twice but never wore either one. Your tips are great using the heat and bond tape as it keeps the fabric from rolling. The fabric is beautiful and your fit is spot on. This for sharing❤️👏✅🧵🪡👗! About those silicone shoulder pads, off to find some never of them
Another great vlog! I am really enjoying your channel, Marie - and I have learned so much from you in each vlog! You’re a really natural teacher too :) thanks for all you are doing :)
I have cut a hole with my serger and scissors several times when making garments. It makes you just sick when it happens. 😭 Unfortunately, I did not know how to properly fix it until now! Thank you so much for showing that!
Also, I absolutely love how you show how to use something other than a serger for knits. Frankly, I am not a fan of the serger for them because I don’t feel like I have as much control as with the regular machine. You give me the confidence to do what works for me and not what I see most everyone doing. Thank you!
I am so glad you came by the flannel shirt chat. So nice to say Hi!! As for sewing. It is a personal art, and there is really never only one way to do anything. Do what feels right in your gut. :)
I found that if their is a gap, you can run a line on each edge of the square neck and put darts till it closes up. Great job Marie. Love your fabric. Can you tell me where you bought it?
Another great video, thankyou Marie. I love to work with knits because I find they are more forgiving than wovens, but I do need to learn more woven techniques too. I have just started using the fusible web lately too and am enjoying the results. What is your sewing background? Do you have tailoring experience? I am sure I have that pattern too :)
My sewing background is a crazy mix of just about everything from wedding dresses to upholstery... Just love learning how to "do stuff" :) You are so welcome! More woven projects coming :)
Thank you for all the great tips for sewing knits. I'm getting some Stitch Witchery before I sew my next top. Seems my neck bands frequently look a little wonky so hopefully this will help. Also, I have a small farm and have three horses: two older mares and my gelding that I ride. Love my farm life and now that I'm retired I also have time to sew. Just found your channel last week and am loving it!
Stunning! It fits you perfectly. Now I know what my next project is going to be. One question, you used a tool for punching out the dots on the pattern. Can you tell me the name of that tool, please?
