You have so many cute plans! When I saw your beautiful cat fabric I thought right away that it would make a beautiful open caftan. You could make it to throw over the top of any of these makes. It would be flowing and gorgeous! Have fun in Portland. I live in north Idaho, the Pacific Northwest is so pretty this time of year!
I love your selection of fabrics; such a gorgeous colour palette. I did the same when I went home to Australia for a month. I planned a capsule of stuff that would work together and be practical for the climate and activities I would be experiencing. I planned loads of garments knowing full well I wouldn't get to them all, but prioritised based on which would have the biggest impact for my travel wardrobe. Of course I didn't get to everything I planned and I'm actually still making some of those pieces because me made clothes are not just for the holidays, they're for life 😄. Wishing you plenty of productive sewing time to work on your capsule.
Thank you! I think that's my plan too. Whatever I don't get to before the trip, I can pick up when I get back. For that reason, I'm probably gonna prioritize the summery-est stuff now and save the bits that can work for transitional times for when I get back. But we'll see, I might just get really inspired and throw all logic out the window!
I just got back from a trip home to the PNW. I was in Crescent City. It was my first time back in 5 years. It was great to get back there. I pulled together a capsule wardrobe out bin of stuff I had already made and that made dressing and packing easy. Have a great visit home!
Love your colors and the sound of all of these plans! I'm always a sucker for a fun print. Wishing you the most incredible trip back home. I'm sure it will be full of amazing memories. Maybe check out the Montana Shirt by Itch to Stitch. It's not exactly the same as the Gilbert but has a cool, casual vibe with optional tie front and bust cup sizes. And I want to see you pack! I'm not going home until the end of next month and need some inspiration!!
Actually, looking at the hashtag on Instagram, the sleeves on that shirt are clearly meant to be a little off the shoulders. You may end up in the same place. 🙈
Hi Bri - Coming to you from SC USA - I always enjoy your videos. Your face just lights up when talking about heading to Portland so I wish you a terrific trip. In case you didn't already know, you can use spray starch on your crazy viscose chiffon to help make cutting and assembly easier. It is a genius idea to spray the washed yardage before cutting it out. It only takes a short soak in water to remove the starch when you're ready, but sure makes it a much more enjoyable sew. Thank you,
I am so late, but if you never found a Gilbert replacement, I would recommend the Camp shirt by Leisl and Co. I have not made it, but some of my coworkers have and love it. I believe it also has cut sizes!
I always like your fabrics and you have inspired me to sew more with solids. This summer I’m only making a Tilly and the Buttons Bettine dress with a slightly more A line skirt in a blue linen. I have a few projects for my daughter too. I would love to see a packing video and look forward to seeing your makes. Also, I would like to try the Meg dress. I prefer it as it has a higher back than the Mabel which I prefer 😊
Whitney at TomKat Stitchery recommends soaking stiff linen in a bucket of original Coca Cola. The acids help soften the fibers. After soaking, wash as normal. I haven’t tried it yet myself, but I plan to use this trick over the weekend, so it’s top of mind for me. If you try it, please share.
It’s the citric acid in Coca Cola that does the softening. So if you’re weird like me, and don’t have Coke but do have citric acid, I can definitely say that it works a treat.
So enjoy your vlogs Bri. What about the Sew liberated Joanie as a suggestion for your camp collar top. Have you tried spray starch to help your chiffon cooperate?
Does Love Notions have something that would work for your camp collar needs? Or Wardrobe By Me? IDK. Just wondering. Good luck! I hope you enjoy your time back here in the states. It's a crazy time over here. I hope you still have citizenship and are voting.
I love the look of the Donny shirt, but to be fully honest, I haven't loved the look on busty folks (like even on the sample model 😬). It seems like the bust ends up pulling the sleeve forward which is something I find to be really uncomfortable. it's so cute though!
