I don't sew, but do greatly admire those that do. Thank you for sharing your wonderful creations.

I really appreciated hearing about the detailed journey of your makes, and how you adapted to challenges as you sewed. I have always dreaded January. It feels so long and boring. This year I spent it over hauling my sewing room. I needed to do it, and I wanted to do it, but it was an overwhelming job, so I had been putting it off. I am really glad I've done it though! I can see all my stuff and have easy access to everything, AND I can move around so much easier in my room! I've had patterns spread out on my cutting table to plan out my next makes. Last night I started to finalize some decisions and match up fabrics for the chosen patterns. I'm so excited to get sewing now!

Ugh, yes, January can feel so long and boring. The perfect time for a sewing room revamp! I'm so happy for you that you have a more functional space now! Way to go!

Thanks for sharing your January!! I love teaching kids to sew! One of my go to things is a very simple Dot-to dot book (like the youngest age one you can find ) I copy the pages and let my kiddos sew on the paper following the numbers! Teaches them how to make straight lines, and to pivot and have fun doing it! Cheers

Hi. Bri, you look absolutely stunning in the cream sweater knit dress (seamwork Brit). The colour suits you so well and the style is elegance plus. I think you could wear it both ways - ie plain as worn in the video and with a belt as you suggested. This is a pattern worth remaking in the future. Happy sewing. 🌸

The ivory dress is stunning on you. Yes to a long necklace but suggest no belt. The shape as it is really is flattering.

Come on Bri, give yourself some props. You finished two things from your make nine already! Amazing. I think you've had a great month. I'm so blown away by the hive sweatshirt. Your cream dress is also absolutely gorgeous. Both really beautiful winter makes. I can totally imagine your experience of sewing with your kiddo. I've definitely had similar experiences trying to bake or do origami with my nieces. Kids are not always super patient. But I think the joy of having made the dresses and being able to show it off will win through. You sound like a great teacher!

What a lovely selection of garments; your sewing year is off to a great start. I particularly love the sweater dress - that shade is so good on you, and the fit is gorgeous. I love the simplicity of it without accessories or adornment; it really shows off the superb fit and elegant sleeve shape. It looks so chic and cosy at the same time. I balanced sewing time with other things in January - lots of reading fiction and making gentle plans/goals for the year. I really like the two things I made; a blouse from a vintage pattern and a self- drafted marinière. I made quite a few things last year that just didn't work out how I had wanted them to, so it's been nice to start a fresh year with some successes.

Thank you! I'm glad you got to start the year with a couple sewing wins! Can I ask what you've been reading? I'm always looking for recs! In January I re-read a few of my faves from last year with the audiobook versions and it was so nice!

@brimichellemade It's a bit niche actually because I finally read the first two books in a series that my partner bought for me some 10 years ago that I just couldn't get into at the time, and which have been taunting me from my bookshelf since then. Much like using fabric from my stash, this year I want to read books I've owned (unread) for a long time rather than just jumping on the new ones that come out. It was _The Eyre Affair_ and _Lost in a Good Book_ by Jasper Fforde, and after that decade of procrastinating, I did actually enjoy them. They aren't my usual sort of thing, but they are creative and fun and weird and celebrate classics of English literature and the act of reading itself. And I'm proud of myself for finally doing something I've put off for so long. I've really struggled to justify reading time since getting so into sewing, because it's really an either/or thing when it comes to (non-audio) books. So I tend to gravitate towards either audio books that I can listen to while sewing (or walking or working), or eBooks that I can read on my phone when I'm out and about and find myself with some spare time, so my actual physical books get neglected. This year I'm giving myself permission to take time to sit at home and just read them, rather than prioritising all the other things I could be doing instead. Last month I also read Agatha Christie's _The ABC Murders_ which I thought I'd already read years ago, but if I did that memory has been wiped so I got to enjoy it (potentially all over again). 😆 So I'm sorry, it's not really a book recommendation, just a mini essay you didn't ask for about reading itself.

@@chlomo2618 Haha I love it! I’m totally with you in the struggle to split reading and sewing time. I love that you’re making some intentional time for settling into reading. ☺️

When I was young, probably 8 or 9, my parents bought me an ancient black and gold singer machine. It came from an elderly lady in the village who had used it to make stuffed toys with (some of which were given to me). I then went onto sewing classes at school in my teens. I still sew, many years later on my wonderful Bernina. So I am very much in favour of teaching kids to sew and I hope your daughter continues her sewing journey. By the way I just love what you have made. That cream dress is so elegant on you and I am definitely going to have a look at that fleece pattern.

Hi Br, they are lovely makes. The sweater looks so much better with your modifications, I don't like things hanging loose in that way either it is just so breezy! More for summer wesr that look. Your mum will love her gift, it turned out really well and your daughter's dresses are pretty too. I have been sewing all January, work projects, me makes and a few bags. Although I have been planning too, I am trying to get onto the habit of writing ideas down straight away or else I get busy then forget. Have a super week. ☺

Omg, your daughter’s dresses are so pretty, you should be very proud of your little one. Now she knows how it feels to sew something 👍👍. Take care, Karen.

So fun to teach your 6 year old, my granddaughter is 7 and wants to sew but her attention span is very short. But she has the interest so eventually will get it i'm sure. I been sewing since I was 6 and still love it almost 55 years later.

This little old girl grew up on a farm in rural Africa. My Mommy Dearest had a treadle Singer machine. I watched everything and learned. Starting by hand stitching dolls clothes. Try that, shorter time span for not getting bored. The machine was only allowed when I was older. I hope your little girl has as much pleasure from this very special craft that we love 💞

That's a good idea. She loves the idea of a big project (don't we all!) but a smaller project is probably better for her attention span.

Your cream dress is beautiful. Speaking of cozy, I just did a video on a Bowl Cozy. I'd love for you to stop by and see it. I know it's not a garment, but it's sewn by me. 😅😅😅

Wow, your winter white dress is fantastic, you popped off the screen :) I get the frustration while making something that doesn't seem to work, but I have learned to keep going, and then WAIT to see what I think of it in a few days! Often my objection is that it wasn't what I had seen in my mind, while sewing, but looking at it realistically, it works really well √ Great save on the zipneck sweatshirt! :)

Your skill really shines in the results. Beautiful sweater dress and pullover! I was 11 when I decided I wanted to sew something. Mom did the set in sleeves and the zipper. She doesn't remember this experience, but it still means something to me. - Kelly

What a wonderful video! I loved seeing your makes, and I enjoyed hearing how your daughter enjoyed sewing. Thank goodness you didn't buy her her own machine yet! That sweater is so chic! I love the collar and the shape you ended up with at the end. It's fabulous! I've been wanting that fabric too, but I wish it came in brighter colors. Thank you so much for sharing!

Awesome! The trickiest part for her was using the foot pedal - I'd put it on a box so her foot could reach it, but there's definietly room for improvement. Our next step is to have her practice stitching lines on paper. I've seen that exercise used in kids sewing courses, so I'm hoping it'll help with the coordination. And yes lego flowers! they're so fun. I might treat myself to the sunflowers for Valentines Day to add to the mix.
