I’ve watched a few of your videos and I have to say, I was sceptical about holding the needle like that at first. I thought “how could it matter?” Well I tried out your advice anyway and I can instantly see an improvement. My stitches were very uneven before but now they line up uniformly on the back side. I’m still getting the feel for it, but I feel like the puzzle pieces are now falling into place. Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing this with us!

Thank you for being open minded and trying something new! I know how hard that is. I’m very glad your stitches are better when you hold the needle this way-I know mine are! Happy stitching, Becky

Hi Becky.... You're a genius, I love this technique. Thank you so much for sharing. I've just found all these quilt YT videos and I'm in heaven today. And I need it as it's been a stressful 2 weeks with a dear sweet sister in law passing away at 87. She was a sewer, made many clothes years ago, on a treadle Singer sewing machine. She still has the machine, it's over 70yrs old. Because she's my sister in law, (my brother passed years ago) I would love to have her machine but don't feel right about asking. None of her children sew and wouldn't use it, they are my close to my age of 67. Maybe one granddaughter would sew, but doubtful. It still works too. I would love to make her children, grandchildren, grt grandchildren, grt-grt grandchildren quilts, wall hangings, or something using that machine. Even more special would from her beautiful clothing she's always had lots of. I love appliqué, am not too bad at it, but always wanting to improve my skills, so this is an excellent tip I will be using. Thank you for sharing. If I've learned anything in these last two stressful weeks, life is so very short, don't procrastinate, VISIT friends often, share ideas, create new ones, go see new things, places, and do what you enjoy!!! STOP SAYING I DON'T HAVE TIME or I WILL CALL YOU, or WE'LL HAVE LUNCH SOON, ETC. You have to makes time!!! It doesn't take long, and those who say 30 min drive is too far, ridiculous!! FOUR HRS isn't too far on a wkend to go visit family or friends to enjoy a few hours with them. My only daughter and only grandson live 1500 miles from me, I've got to fix that. I can't live this far without them. If u can share ur interests, hobby or enjoyment with husband, children (start teaching them too), friend or relative, do it!! Lets work hard to get our creations completed, no matter what they are or what it takes! I'm a writer of children books too. Have never published out of fear. No more, I'm going to make it happen this year! It might take time, but I'll do it, along with publishing my own quilt designs too! Blessings to you and all your viewers, L :) Central PA, USA

I'm so happy that you are enjoying the videos, and that they are stress reliever. It's hard to lose people close to us and what you say is true. Life is short. It's hard to remember that as we go about our lives but that doesn't mean we can't refocus and be mindful of how we spend our time. I hope you have luck finding a publisher! I hear it's hard to break into children's book publishing, but hard is not impossible :-).

It's so funny, she said everyone will notice that tiny bump. I've been practicing quilting. Iam a perfectionist. So what happens with me I just give up. If I can't do it right I'm done. So I started to not care if it's perfect And I've finished serval quilts. Not perfect! Martha Stewart had some old ladies on her show once and all their quilts were NOT PERFECT! I fell in love with them I will say you give me inspiration to do better. I'm just glad I finished somethin! ❤️ Thanks.
@BeckyGoldsmith
@BeckyGoldsmith 3 года назад
I am less and less a perfectionist so I'm with you there. However, for those who still care, that's how you deal with the bump :-). And no matter what, enjoy the sewing. Don't beat yourself up if is points are imperfect. Have fun and in the end, if all your pieces are sewn to the quilt and don't fall off, it is a total win!

I thought I was the only one who picked needle stabs above my cuticle when the needle was coming out of the fabric stitch. You would think there was a paint-on clear product to paint on the skin to prevent the needle from jamming into or above the nail cuticle. Wrapping tape around the finger is too bulky. Thank so very much for your patient and clear instructions and the zooming in.

Your points and explanation are PERFECT. I'm working on the Patriotic Rose Quilt right now. Tiny 5 point stars, about and inch to 1/2inches wide. The points on these little devils are murder. Any suggestions? I've just discovered your videos. They're amazing.
@BeckyGoldsmith
@BeckyGoldsmith 7 лет назад
I turn all my points the same way. Use a damp toothpick to move the fabric under the point with a 'windshield wiper' movement. You might have to do that more than once. I hope that helps, Becky
@angelikaimnaehglueck
@angelikaimnaehglueck 5 лет назад
In your video it looks so easy. Have you ever appliquated jersey on jersey?
@BeckyGoldsmith
@BeckyGoldsmith 5 лет назад
I have not appliqued on a stretchy knit like jersey. The invisible stitch I'm using here is not stretchy and would be prone to breaking if the jersey fabric was stretched. I think you'd have to adjust the stitch to account for that. If the jersey was going into a quilt or be framed, I'd probably back the background fabric with a light fusible stabilizer.

@BeckyGoldsmith
@BeckyGoldsmith 6 лет назад
If you are sewing around the leaf, start on a flat part. Sew to the point, turn it. Keep sewing until you get to the next point, sew it in the same manner. Continue sewing until you get to where you started and knot your thread.
