I really enjoyed seeing part of your lovely home and your sewing studio! So much fun and inspiration!! God bless you for raising a large family!! I'm the 3rd of 7 children. I'm 71 now and all of my siblings are still alive.

Catching up on your channel. Your sewing room is comforting to me knowing I have books and patterns, lots of WIP, organized items and handmade, and salvaged things like your ironing board etc. Our sewing room doesn’t look like the teachers with their studio set up.

My quaint space was so fun! With the purchase of a second longarm, I have had to move the machines into a larger space and changed up my personal sewing space. Maybe I can do another video once it is complete.

Thank you so much for taking the time to show us your beautiful sewing space! I recently found your channel and I love it. Currently my sewing room doubles as a homeschool room which makes for a tight space but I really enjoy working on projects while my kids are doing their work. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I love seeing the completed quilts- so inspirational!

A little late in seeing this, have just recently discovered your clips on Facebook. The small ironing board is a sleeve board, reverses for the size of the sleeve. Am coming back to IN in the near future, so hope to meet up with you some time. Keep the clips coming, they are inspiring me, as I have an original 16" Handi Quilter, self-propelled, used only for my own projects. Thank you.

I have one of those taylor ironing boards too. It was made by my grandfather. My mother used it a lot. And then gave it to me. I have been meaning to recover it for forty years to use it. This video reminded me that this new year's weekend I have time to do that. I love the way that you're displaying it. I'm going to figure out where to put it in my sewing room as well. Love your room. I really like your concept that you decorate your sewing room as a quilt shop. You seem to know where everything is and how to get to it to use it, but yet it's decorative.

Hi Tammy! I just watched your studio tour and I love all your precious pieces that have meaning for you. I do a lot of things that way too; I guess we all do. I wanted to comment on a very pretty fabric flower- it just perched on top of your filing cabinet. It was beige brown with a button center. I LOVED IT! How to make it? Please, if you have time to reply. Thank you so much, I loved your tour, you are so relaxed.

Oh my goodness Marilyn, I can’t believe you noticed that! I believe that was a Lynette Jensen PDF tutorial many, many years ago. Do you remember her? Her company was Thimbleberries. One of my early mentors! I’ll see if I can find the pattern and share it. I don’t throw too much away so I’m assuming it’s in my filing cabinet. 😁

@tammieearnest
@tammieearnest Год назад
Hi Sharon! The track itself is about 80 inches long and about 1 3/4 inches tall. We purchased the track at Menards or Lowe's. The barn door is approximately 40x 70. We pulled two of these out of an old barn although I am only using one of them on the bookcase.

Thank you for the tour. You are so organized in small space, but I am sure it is your "happy place". I have the Babylock Coronet long arm with a 5 foot frame due to space, but I only do my own quilts due to doing free motion quilting, of which they are ok for me but I don't think for the public. How do you find room to sew quilt bindings on in your small space or do you do it with your long-arm machine? I am so glad I found your videos, as I have enjoyed everyone.
@tammieearnest
@tammieearnest Год назад
Thank you Bonita! I still like to sew my bindings on with my domestic machine. I keep the small cart pushed up next to my sewing table and rest as much of the quilt on that and on my cutting table as I can while I attach the binding to the front of the quilt. I then hand sew it in the back in the evening when I’m with my family. It is quite bulky but it works for me.

You are so welcome! Great question Robin! I try to follow the Clean Mama cleaning routine. Check it out at cleanmama.com I work on the Daily 5 cleaning routine each morning before starting school with my youngest. After lunch, I clean the kitchen with the help of my son and try to fit in a daily chore then. Sometimes I get it done and sometimes I don’t 😊. My kids are responsible for their own laundry and their rooms. My youngest son cleans his “zone” each day also (the living room). Then I sew all afternoon! BUT the 4 kiddos still at home are mostly grown at this point and the house doesn’t get nearly as cluttered now as it did when they were all little!

Loved your tour! Thank you so much. Wondering if you are able to multi task and get your own projects done while a quilt is on the longarm? I love all the history you surround yourself with.

Yes I do! I like to stay close by to be sure it’s running correctly. But yes, I’m usually sewing while the longarm is running.

@@tammieearnest thanks Tammie. What a lovely studio to work in. No surprise the quilts for your customers are so breathtaking. When we are happy where we work and create, it shows every time ❤️

Enjoyed the sewing room tour! Where did you find the rack you store your quilting rulers on?

Unfortunately I do not know. It’s something we’ve had around the house for several years.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful quilt room! I have a question. How do you reach the back of your long arm machine if needed. Specifically how to turn on, etc. looks like tight space on ends. thank you!

Hi Brenda! Thanks for watching. I AM in a tight space! My table is 12 foot long and my room is 14 foot long! I am able to reach over the bars to turn the machine off/on and I have learned to load the quilt from the front. But when I need to clean the back wheels or the track or if I want to load a quilt from the back, I have to crawl under the longarm to the other side. Not the best scenario, but I make it work.

Where do you store your threads-only saw bobbin storage jars? Do you store anything under your longarm (e.g., coned threads, etc.)?
@tammieearnest
@tammieearnest Год назад
Yes, I forgot to show my drawer of threads. 🫣. There is a drawer just above the customer bags of quilts that holds them all. It is attached to the underside of the longarm.

Love your studio! What are the measurements of your room? I’m curious because I would love a long arm.

Thanks Lisa! The room is 14x11. You’ll need a larger room if you want to get to the backside of the longarm without climbing under it! 🫣

Tammie, I just bought your exact machine. We are going to have to convert some attic space too. I am trying to figure out exactly what I need. I was thinking a 16’x16’ minimum space…our attic is huge…or would you suggest a larger space? And what are your thoughts on electrical outlets? Counter height or closer to the floor? Any insight you can give will be greatly appreciated. We can’t start until this winter…Texas beat right now is brutal. So, I have time to really plan this out. Thanks so very much for your videos and any help you may offer

Congratulations! You can make it work with 16x16. Will your domestic machine, cutting area, ironing station be in the same place? Then you might need more room. I would have a dedicated electrical outlet right behind the machine. I have mine plugged into a serge protector as well. The cord needs to be free to move with the machine along the back, so my surge protector sits behind my machine in a central spot. I am not able to cut batting in my space because it is too small. So that may be something to consider. The machine needs to be as tall as your elbows are when bent so that your hands are not higher or lower than your elbows. This is especially important if you are doing any handguided work. Hope this helps.

@@tammieearnest thank you so much! After looking at the attic space, and how steep the stairs would need to be, I think we are going to enclose half of the garage. I am afraid it will be a little tight but, for now it is in a guest bedroom and only set up at 8 feet. All the rest of my sewing will stay in my sewing room. I was really hoping to have it all in one space but, I will make it work! Thank you again. I don’t want to have regrets after he does all this for me. Love your videos!

Hi, I’m looking at purchasing a longarm Amara, can you tell me the length of your quilting studio from door to window. I am deciding between a 12’ or 10’ table. I have 13’7” on the wall I’m putting my table. Thank you for your help. Cathy

From door to window is 14'. I have a 12' table but with the hand cranks on the side, I literally have 7-8 inches clearance on each side. If I need to get to the back side of the machine, I have to crawl under the table. Not ideal, but I'm glad the 12' table fits. I previously had an HQ16 on a 10' table in the same space. It worked well, but when I upgraded I really wanted to be able to do the biggest quilts so that is why I went to the 12' length. Hope this helps.
